Chapter 19: Volume 1, Chapter 19 Dangerous Professor Bewitched Me (End)
Afterward.
She would always see him when she went out; he often worked the night shift and came back at dawn.
Gradually they became acquainted, and Jiang Zhi often went to his house to mooch meals.
Finally they fell in love, got married, and stayed together until death.
After Jiang Zhi woke up, tears streamed from the corners of her eyes, and her reddish dark eyes reflected Huo Yin's visage.
She murmured: 'Huo Yin.'
Mu Chi, sitting beside the bed, saw the love hidden deep in the girl's eyes, feeling both angry and flustered.
Recalling the student gathering, he had at once noticed the girl sitting inconspicuously in the corner; her gaze never lingered on him from start to finish.
Even after following her to the outside restroom, upon seeing her being pestered by a suitor, Mu Chi did not step forward right away.
Instead, he wanted to see her fall into trouble before appearing.
If, as he wished, the girl would become infatuated with him as she had been in high school.
But Mu Chi never expected that a murderous madman, a man devoid of feeling whose hands were stained with blood, would win her heart.
No!
Mu Chi's expression darkened, a shadowy glint flickering across it.
Only a complete severance.
Only then would Jiang Zhi belong to him.
Before dawn the next day, Jiang Zhi received a call from the police station.
The news of Jiang Jiang's death.
His body was dumped by the riverbank, his death gruesome.
The time of death was 1 a. m. last night.
Upon receiving the news, Jiang Zhi got in Mu Chi's car and rushed to the mortuary to identify the body.
As the white cloth was lifted, seeing that familiar face, Jiang Zhi stood frozen, her complexion calm, slowly raising her finger to lightly touch the face.
The officer stepped forward and told her that the victim was likely killed by the serial murderer Huo Yin, the killing method and many details being extremely similar to previous cases.
Jiang Zhi could not bear it and fainted again.
When she awoke, she found herself in the hospital.
Mu Chi saw she was awake, held a cup of plain water to her lips, and said, 'Drink some water.'
Jiang Zhi was unusually quiet, obediently drank the water, lifted her picturesque brows and eyes, and softly said, 'Senior Mu Chi, I'm hungry.'
Mu Chi stared at her deeply for a moment, then said, 'Alright, I'll go buy some food; wait for me to return.'
Jiang Zhi softly responded with an 'hmm.'
After Mu Chi left,
Jiang Zhi yanked out the needle on the back of her hand, threw off the blanket, and staggered out of bed.
Barefoot, she left the ward.
She hailed a taxi at the hospital gate, went to an abandoned building, and climbed step by step to the rooftop.
She picked up her phone and dialed Huo Yin.
She told him her location.
Without waiting for his reaction, she hung up.
She sat on the edge of the rooftop, her slender white legs swaying in midair; the cool wind brushed her hair, revealing her pale, lovely face.
When Huo Yin hurried over, this was what he saw.
His pupils contracted, and he took long strides to approach.
Jiang Zhi, with her back to him, suddenly said, 'Don't come closer.'
Huo Yin saw her move to jump, his steps halted abruptly, his voice tense: 'Don't jump! Zhizhi, listen, don't jump down!'
Jiang Zhi turned her head to look at him, the corners of her mouth slightly lifting, her dimples glazed with a faint shine, beautiful enough to captivate the soul.
'Why did you kill my brother?' she whispered, suppressing despair and sorrow.
The girl's voice drifted on the wind to Huo Yin's ears; upon hearing it, his brow veins bulged, almost like a beast trapped in desperation.
'I didn't!! Why don't you believe me?' Huo Yin clenched his fists, fingertips digging into his flesh, the pain forcing him to control his emotions.
The girl in a white dress slowly rose, standing at the edge of the rooftop like a tightrope walker, taking tiny steps along the brink.
Huo Yin's heart and soul trembled, his chest feeling suffocated, unable to breathe, he stared fixedly at the girl's silhouette, desperately pleading: 'Zhizhi, no... I don't care about you anymore; I won't pester you in the future—please come down.'
Jiang Zhi did not respond to his words, instead she began to sing.
The heavenly, moving song echoed over the rooftop, clear and lingering.
That was the song Jiang Zhi wanted to sing for Huo Yin on his birthday.
'After meeting you'
'Look, that person who is most important to you.'
'Right now, that person is by your side.'
'I merely wish to convey this to the one and only you.'
Jiang Zhi turned around, gazing at the man not far away, her reddish eyes shimmering with starlight.
'Huo Yin, if there is a next life, I do not wish to meet you again.'
As her words fell,
The white-clad girl leaned back and fell from the rooftop.
The crystal-clear teardrop slid down, refracting into seven-colored light in the faint, shallow glow.
Huo Yin recalled his mother's words in his mind.
「A Yin, you're just like your dad—a demon who will never understand feelings, and no one will ever love you. 」
The police who arrived late stopped Huo Yin, who wanted to jump along, pressing him hard to the ground and cuffing both his hands.
His cheek pressed against the icy, rough stone floor, Huo Yin struggled fiercely, his whole person seeming mad, staring fixedly at the edge of the rooftop, the scarlet, fierce corners of his eyes catching the scalding tears.
He roared like a wild beast.
「Zhizhi!! Zhizhi!!! 」
Side story.
Huo Yin's mother was a complete lunatic, dreaming of a wealthy life since she became aware; her impoverished, bitter life never shattered her fantasy.
During high school, his mother secretly went to work part-time at an upscale club, where she met his father, Huo Yuan.
Father Huo Yuan was the owner of that club, and he also had many lovers outside.
Naturally, he did not let go of his mother, whose appearance was bewitching and whose charm overflowed.
Huo Yuan locked her up at home, not allowing her to go outside to meet others; later he became even worse, beating and scolding her at the slightest provocation, venting all the anger he suffered outside onto her.
After giving birth to him, she frequently miscarried.
Huo Yuan was psychologically twisted and perverse; after his business failed, he even killed his partner, and upon returning home, he had no intention of letting them live.
His mother discovered his intent, early on preparing to hide a knife under her pillow, and then locked Huo Yin in the wardrobe.
When Huo Yuan forced himself on her, his mother raised the knife and killed him.
After killing him, she didn't even think of continuing to live.
She was exhausted; in front of Huo Yin, she tied a cloth and hanged herself.
「A Yin, remember, Mom will die, and it's all because of you. 」
Those were her last words to herself.
From the time he became aware, Huo Yin never saw outside sunlight; that wardrobe was his home, and each day he witnessed his father's torment and his mother's suffering.
It seemed that from then on, he never came out of the wardrobe.
Until he met Jiang Zhi.
She brought him warm light.
He dared not hope that light could stay, for he was nothing but a maggot rotting in a filthy puddle, utterly unworthy of her.
He forcibly kept her by his side, even imprisoning her like his father did.
That light also left him.
Just as his mother said.
He would never deserve anyone's love.
