Chapter 27: Volume 1 Chapter 27: How to Win Over the Proud Ghost King? (8)

~7 min read 1,330 words

The driver was so frightened that cold sweat poured from his forehead.

Mom, I ran into a ghost.

Jiang Zhi had been wanting to ask the Ghost King all along whether there were any evil spirits in the area; upon reaching the destination, just as she was about to pay, she heard the driver trembling as he said: "No need, no need to pay, you guys, you guys get out of the car."

Having gotten out of the car, Jiang Zhi looked utterly bewildered; after a moment she realized what she had done all along, scaring people like this.

She furtively glanced at the man in dark robes standing beside her.

The cool, silvery-white moonlight poured over him, his black hair and near-black dragon robe almost blending together; combined with his handsome, enchanting face, from afar he looked like a figure from an ancient painting.

He's so handsome, really handsome, being of mixed blood and an emperor—here, how sought-after he must be.

Lost in thought, she didn't realize she had spoken her mind aloud.

Zhan Wu Jin's aura seemed to condense into icy cold.

"Do you want to die?"

Jiang Zhi quickly covered her mouth.

Meeting the poster, it was a young girl who looked like a high school student; her complexion was poor, with dark circles under her eyes from staying up several nights.

"Are you Zhizhi?" The girl's name was Zhu Panpan, and she had a somewhat shy personality.

Jiang Zhi nodded; her online ID was Zhizhi.

Seeing that she was also quite young and had come alone, not wanting to burden her, the girl said: "My house really has a ghost; it's very dangerous, Zhizhi sis."

Jiang Zhi shook her head, speaking earnestly but nonsense: "Don't worry, my ancestors for three generations have slain countless ghosts, and in my generation I have also slain over a thousand."

The girl's words were firm and convincing, inspiring trust.

Upon hearing this, Zhu Panpan immediately led her home.

Her residence was in a block of apartment buildings; along the way the road twisted and turned, with many shops lining the sides, people coming and going, and even at night several people strolled by.

Arriving in front of one of the apartment blocks, they walked up to the fifth floor on foot.

Zhu Panpan took out her key and opened the door.

A chilling, yin-filled aura rushed over them, different from the Ghost King's chill; the yin cold emanating from the house could creep from the spine to the crown of the head.

Jiang Zhi's heart tightened, her body suddenly stiffened, and she dared not step inside.

A ghost.

There's a ghost.

She hadn't really expected anything by coming here, but she never imagined that a random post would involve an evil ghost.

Zhu Panpan seemed not to notice the dark mist drifting out from inside the house; she walked straight in, and when she realized Jiang Zhi was still standing at the doorway without entering, she couldn't help but ask, bewildered: "What's wrong?"

Jiang Zhi took a deep breath, strained to move her foot, wanting to go inside.

Zhan Wu Jin, standing behind her, suddenly spoke: "Less than half an hour has passed."

Jiang Zhi turned her head, her dark eyes glistening with a pitiful sheen, and silently opened her mouth: "I know."

Zhan Wu Jin coldly glanced at the girl's flawless, exquisite face; the corner of his lips twitched into an inscrutable smile, as if mixed with infinite malice: "Go in and cut your hand; your blood will attract it."

Jiang Zhi: "."

In his eyes, she was merely a professional tool for attracting evil ghosts.

Without glancing back at the demon behind her, Jiang Zhi stepped into the bitterly cold house, her gaze following the black mist swirling overhead, until she reached a room.

Seeing this, Zhu Panpan trusted her even more, walked over and explained: "The room is where the strange thing I mentioned happens."

"A month ago, my mother picked up half a necklace on the road; it was a gold necklace that looked extremely ancient, so she kept it at home as a collection. But I never expected that just a few days later, my mother would change."

"It was as if she had become a different person—she didn't go out during the day, but at night she wore a cheongsam, put on heavy makeup, and sang at home."

The more Zhu Panpan spoke, the redder her eyes became; tears streamed down her face as she choked up: "I talk to her, but she ignores me. I posted on the forum, and everyone said my mother was possessed by a ghost."

Jiang Zhi listened with a calm expression, but inside she was panicking.

It's still a Republican-era evil ghost!

Before Zhu Panpan could finish, a sharp cry came through the door from inside, and the door was being rattled again and again, as if trying to burst out.

Seeing this, Zhu Panpan jumped in fright and stammered: "How could this be... my mother never would slam the door."

Jiang Zhi lifted her arm to sniff, then sighed.

She also hadn't expected that her body would have such a strong attraction for ghosts.

"Panpan, do you have a knife at home?"

Zhu Panpan blinked, then quickly nodded: "Yes."

Having said that, she fetched a fruit knife and handed it to her.

Jiang Zhi raised the fruit knife in her hand and told the girl beside her: "You go out."

Zhu Panpan was flustered, but seeing her confident expression, she calmed down, replied earnestly, and stepped out.

The living room was now empty except for her; Jiang Zhi looked around but could find no trace of Zhan Wu Jin.

Jiang Zhi closed her eyes, took a deep breath, then after a moment lifted her tightly gripped wrist holding the fruit knife and pressed it against her palm, slashing hard.

Bright red blood quickly spilled out, dropping drop by drop onto the floor.

The evil ghost inside the door stopped its pounding; in an instant, black mist enveloped the living room, the yin cold like bone-deep maggots falling thickly on her skin, bringing waves of chill.

The evil ghost broke free of its mortal husk, shrouded in black mist, and surged at her from all sides.

Jiang Zhi's body trembled violently, her eyes tightly shut, yet she waited in vain for death or pain.

The man's magnetic yet unusually aloof, slow voice fell upon her ears.

"This time I didn't faint."

The pallid girl opened her eyes; her dark, wood-like pupils reflected his face, suffused with a thin mist, the corners of her eyes flushing rose-red as she bit her lips.

After a long while she slowly spoke: "Today, is it enough?"

Zhan Wu Jin's pupils were dark as an unfathomable abyss, too deep to stare into; his gaze moved from her face to her palm, which was oozing fresh blood, and he took steady steps, walking to stand before her.

His long hand seized her wrist and lifted it; the scent rising from her blood was enough to plunge every demon into obsession.

He lowered his brow slightly, extended his scarlet tongue tip, and lightly licked the girl's delicate, white, soft palm, tasting its bloody-sweet flavor.

Jiang Zhi's expression suddenly went blank.

A damp cold spread across her palm, sending a tingling numbness; the icy chill, like an ice cellar, seeped through her pores into her skin.

After she came to, Jiang Zhi jerked her hand back, took a step back, and stared at the man in disbelief, her low voice trembling slightly.

"You, what are you doing!"

Having reigned as emperor for over ten years, he had never seen a beauty of unparalleled looks; even if a naked woman lay on his dragon bed, he felt no desire.

But this time—

He licked his blood-stained thin lips, adding a deadly allure to that enchantingly handsome face; his smoky-blue eyes were deep and bottomless, "Want to... you."
