First Volume, Chapter 39: Black-bellied x Arrogant (3)
Morning.
Xie Wuchen's bedside had more than ten fruit candies.
He got up, his gaze falling on the girl sleeping in the corner.
The girl curled up in the corner, sleeping uneasily, with the blanket kicked down to her feet.
Perhaps she had a nightmare; she suddenly sat up from the mat, breathless, and saw the man sitting up not far away.
He twirled a fruit candy in front of her eyes, as if asking whether it was hers.
Jiang Zhi glared at him with a bad temper, then turned to tidy the blanket.
Her cheeks unconsciously flushed with embarrassment.
After finishing breakfast.
Luo Heng divided the team into three groups: he with Wen Shuangshuang, Song Xuefeng with Jiang Zhi, and then Xie Wuchen with Yu Xiaochun.
Song Xuefeng was reluctant, but considering others, he didn't voice his complaints.
The three groups split up; their main task was to scavenge supplies and check if the town had any abnormalities.
Song Xuefeng walked a stretch, then stopped and said impatiently to Jiang Zhi, "Xie Wuchen said there aren't many zombies around here; I'll go the other way, you go this way."
Having said that, he strode off, not caring whether Jiang Zhi would encounter danger.
Jiang Zhi felt quite happy; being with someone who disliked her especially affected her mood, and being alone, she was rather pleased to be at ease.
She had always wanted to practice with the brick in her hand; since arriving in this world, she had only hit two zombies.
At this rate, she didn't know when she would be able to upgrade her ability.
She glanced around mysteriously, and after seeing no one else, she stepped toward the shop ahead.
These zombies are quite stupid, only rushing forward without regard for anything.
Jiang Zhi designed a trap that made all those zombies fall into it, then she dealt with them one brick at a time.
She killed over twenty zombies in total, her strength drained, she lay helpless on the ground, panting.
The air temperature was high; after sitting a while, she felt as if she were soaked in water.
"Why are you alone here?"
A familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.
Jiang Zhi quickly turned her head; upon seeing Xie Wuchen, her dark eyes flickered.
How could he be here?
Wasn't he with Yu Xiaochun's group?
Xie Wuchen handed her a bottle of mineral water and softly answered her question: "Yu Xiaochun and I had opposing views, so we simply split up."
"And you? Why are you alone?"
Jiang Zhi's breath unsteady, she sprang up from the ground, thinking of the departed Song Xuefeng, and snapped, "He didn't want to be in my group, so he left."
Having said that, she took the mineral water from his hand, tilted her head back and took a big gulp; the spilled water ran down her jaw and slipped into her collar.
Xie Wuchen's pupils were deep; his gaze moved unnoticeably from her collar to the girl's sweat-drenched face, flushed by heat, revealing a captivating beauty.
"Can I join your group?"
He asked gently.
Jiang Zhi didn't react at first, stunned for a few seconds, then countered, "Why would you want to be in my group?"
Everyone wanted to be with Wen Shuangshuang; her longbow is strong, able to kill a zombie with a single arrow.
Unlike her, she only has a brick and must guard against zombie scratches.
Xie Wuchen's brows and eyes were warm like an ink painting, his aura as pure as white snow, his voice dispelling the heat in the air.
"I'm willing."
Jiang Zhi stared blankly at his eyes, wet with water, her heart beating involuntarily; after a moment she lowered her forehead, hiding in her flushed cheeks, "You, you if you want to come, just come along!"
Having said that, she took a big step forward.
The girl's porcelain-white earlobes glowed with a tempting red under the scorching sun.
As Jiang Zhi walked ahead, a hint of coldness flickered in the depths of her eyes.
"Brother Seven, what's the favorability of the villain Xie Wuchen?"
"777 hesitated for a moment, then replied slowly:"
"7"
"7?"
"Not even ten points."
Jiang Zhi has met her match this time.
She hasn't even made a move, yet Xie Wuchen deliberately approached her, hoping to make her like him.
If that's the case,
then she laid her cards bare.
Trying to win her over? Nothing could be easier!
On their way back, the sky suddenly changed, dark clouds piled up, heavy and oppressive.
The next moment, a torrential downpour fell, dispelling the earth's heat and wrapping it in chills.
They could only take shelter under a residential building; the rain, like a waterfall, struck the eaves, making a "papa chacha" sound.
It was only three in the afternoon, yet the sky already resembled night.
The sun, not yet obscured by the clouds on the horizon, glowed an eerie blood-red, spilling across the land and swaying like blood, evoking a sense of dread.
Jiang Zhi stepped back to keep the rain from splashing onto her feet.
She always felt this rain was not simple, and the blood-like rainwater also made her uncomfortable to look at.
「Thud—」
Suddenly a heavy object fell behind her; Jiang Zhi turned and saw Xie Wuchen lying on the ground.
Xie Wuchen's whole body seemed dead, his chest unmoving, that handsome face pale and bloodless.
She hurried forward, crouched down, and as she touched the man's ice‑cold, cellar‑like skin, her plain white fingers seemed to seep into the marrow, as if they would draw all the warmth from her body.
"Hey! Hey! Xie Wuchen!" she exclaimed anxiously, giving the corpse‑like man a push.
He couldn't really be dead, could he?
Jiang Zhi hesitated a moment, then after a while extended a finger, tentatively placing it near the man's nose.
"No, he's not dead!" she murmured happily.
Gazing at the rain outside that showed no sign of stopping soon, Jiang Zhi could only lift the heavy man and carry him upstairs step by step.
Arriving at a resident's unit, she locked the door and dragged him onto the bedroom bed.
Having done that, she looked around, found a medical kit in the room, glanced at the man on the bed, then looked at the kit in her hands.
「…」
She didn't even know what illness he had, and couldn't just use medicines recklessly.
Jiang Zhi had no choice but to put down the medical kit, turn and go to the living room, and look around.
Her eyes lit up.
She dismantled the wooden furniture, placed it in the iron bucket, and lit a fire.
The temperature in the room rose, thick smoke rose as well, filling the ceiling.
Jiang Zhi covered her nose, coughing from the smoke, while fanning with one hand and adding wood to the iron bucket with the other.
"What are you doing?"
Hearing the sound behind her, Jiang Zhi turned her head and saw Xie Wuchen sitting up from the bed.
"Are you all right?" she exclaimed, quickly standing and walking up to him, asking anxiously.
The girl's snow‑white cheeks were streaked with soot, blackened, her clear dark eyes reflecting his figure, full of worry.
"I'm fine," Xie Wuchen said, his gaze moving from her face to the iron bucket behind him, where a scorching flame burned, mostly deep black smoke.
If this continued, she would soon be overcome by the smoke.
Xie Wuchen got off the bed, extinguished the flame in the iron bucket, and immediately carried the bucket to the vent to dispel the smoke in the room.
Jiang Zhi followed behind him, wanting to stop his action, saying, "Don't put it out—your body is so cold, it's perfect to warm yourself by the fire."
Xie Wuchen turned his head, lifted his eyelids, looked at the anxious girl, and asked helplessly, "How can you be so stupid?"
The girl knows nothing about everyday common sense; burning wood in the sealed bedroom will, before long, kill not only him but also her from the smoke.
After hearing his words clearly, Jiang Zhi's glossy black eyes flashed with annoyance; she puffed her cheeks, angrily wiped her nose, and the soot‑stained tip grew even blacker.
Like a little panda.
"Xie Wuchen, you're the stupid one!!"
