Volume 1_Chapter 437   Obsessive Professor Extra

——Huo Yin World Extra.

The old city district was covered in thick snow, vegetation withered, gusts of cold wind blew through the alleyways, and an ominous sound like ghosts wailing rose up.

In the cramped, tiny wardrobe, the chilled-awake little boy curled his body, faint light seeping through the cracks fell onto his palm, outside noises rose and fell, screams and curses mixed together, followed by a violent crashing sound.

"Scumbag!! Want to run away again? Don't even think about it! Alive you're mine, dead you're my ghost!" The man's hoarse roar was like a beast entering desperation, utterly without reason.

The little boy, through the gap in the wardrobe door, saw the horrific scene in the bedroom.

His mother lay motionless on the floor, as if lifeless, covered in wounds. His father still wouldn't let her go, dragging her onto the bed to vent his anger.

After an unknown amount of time, the outside noises gradually faded.

The little boy carefully pushed open the wardrobe door, bare feet stepping on the icy floor, step by step he walked out of the bedroom.

Outside, snowflakes flew, coating the earth with a layer of pure white color.

He stepped out the door, left the residential area, and walked all the way to that desolate, empty alley.

Snowflakes landed on his body, cold seeping into his viscera, both bare feet turned purple from freezing.

He walked expressionlessly, without purpose.

The heart encased in his chest had long gone numb, without a hint of pain.

When he grew tired from walking, he lay down in the thick snow, letting the white snow cover him.

As his consciousness began to blur, a hand dug through the thick snow, grabbed his collar, and pulled him out of the snow.

"Why are you lying here?" a stranger's voice sounded above his head; the little boy struggled to lift his head, his vision blurry, unable to see the person's face.

Lying in that person's embrace, warmth slowly returned to his body.

…

When he woke, he came out of the warm bathtub; that person dressed him, held him and placed him on the soft bed, and he smelled a faint fragrance.

"Hey, kid, what's your name?"

The voice was clear and pleasant.

The little boy's gaze shifted to the girl half‑kneeling in front of him.

Her appearance was exquisite and outstanding; her ebony‑colored long hair hung at her temples, her beautiful eyes reflected the honey‑colored light, her features were delicate, and her expression held scrutiny.

The little boy's empty, dim pupils flickered slightly, his pallid purple‑tinged lips twitched.

"Huo Yin."

Jiang Zhi listened and nodded, "Where's your home? I'll send you back."

The little boy stared blankly ahead, not uttering a sound.

Jiang Zhi saw this and felt puzzled.

Could it be that his family abandoned him? He had nowhere to go? Or maybe he's an idiot?

She immediately took out her phone and called the police.

Soon the police arrived at her doorstep and took the little boy away.

Jiang Zhi wasn't entirely at ease, so she followed them to the police station.

The police officer investigated quickly; not long after, a tall man strode into the police station.

The man looked not young, his visage gloomy and cold, his aura overbearing, giving an unfavorable impression.

But he looked about seventy‑percent similar to the little boy.

"A Yin!" Huo Father walked up to the little boy, grabbed his shoulder, suppressing his anger: "Where did you run off to? Don't you know your mother was worried about you?"

Having said that, he made a move to strike him.

The police officer beside him intervened, sternly criticizing: "A child this young got lost; as his father, now is the time to comfort him."

Huo Father took a deep breath, raised a thankful smile: "Thank you all, I'm truly grateful."

Police officer: "It's also thanks to that little girl who found your child."

Huo Father followed his finger and looked over.

Jiang Zhi waved her hand: "Just happened to be passing by."

Huo Father expressed thanks with a nod, then was about to leave.

The little boy stood still in place.

Huo Father frowned: "Let's go home."

The little boy didn't respond to his words, but instead looked toward Jiang Zhi not far away.

Jiang Zhi met his gaze and smiled: "What's up? Still reluctant to leave me?"

The little boy took a step with his short legs, walked to her side, and gripped her sleeve.

His pallid, slender fingers were especially conspicuous in the light.

Jiang Zhi didn't understand his meaning, was about to speak, when Huo Father hurried over, scooped up the little boy, and took him out of her sight.

She watched as he turned his head, the little boy looking back at her, disappear at the gate.

Jiang Zhi pressed her lips, feeling a bit odd.

But she didn't think much of it, left the police station and went home.

Jiang Zhi's parents were both deceased, she had no relatives left; after finishing high school she dropped out and drifted about in this city. Today, on her way home while resting, she encountered the little boy lying in the snow.

Jiang Zhi quickly cast this incident aside and focused on work.

Deep winter.

The temperature kept dropping, snow fell continuously, severely affecting city traffic.

Jiang Zhi looked at the snow spread on the ground and felt a headache.

Her little electric scooter was useless; she could only take the subway.

I thought I'd never see that little boy again, but on my way home after work I saw him standing at the alley entrance—short and small, in the bleak cold wind, looking lonely and pitiful.

She glanced, then looked away and stepped past.

Hearing the footsteps following her step for step, Jiang Zhi stopped helplessly and turned to look at him.

"Why are you following me?"

On such a cold night, he, a little kid, came out without fearing the cold.

The little boy seemed not to speak much, silent and voiceless, standing there staring at her.

Jiang Zhi inopportunely smelled the roasted sweet potato aroma coming from a nearby stall.

She hadn't had anything to eat all evening, thinking of going home to cook noodles.

Seeing him not answer her, Jiang Zhi walked to the stall, bought two roasted sweet potatoes, and handed him one.

"Eat."

The little boy hesitated, not moving.

Jiang Zhi, seeing that, said irritably, "Forget it then."

As she withdrew her hand, the little boy reached out and took the roasted sweet potato.

The heat rose with the cold wind, turning into thin mist that vanished into the night.

The roasted sweet potato was fragrant and sweet, comforting her empty stomach and icy body.

"What's going on with you, kid? Why are you following me? Don't your parents care for you?" she asked while eating.

The little boy lowered his head and silently ate the sweet potato, bite after bite; after a dozen seconds he replied, "No one does."

Jiang Zhi stopped in surprise, looking at his cheeks exposed to the cold, turned red.

He wore little clothing, no scarf around his neck, the exposed skin was frostbitten, yet he felt no cold, gulping down the sweet potato.

"Why?" she asked instinctively.

Aren't parents supposed to be the people who treat one best in the world?

The little boy didn't answer her again, eating the large roasted sweet potato in his hand clean, not even leaving the skin.

He said thanks: "Thank you."

Jiang Zhi was shocked at the sight.

She hadn't even finished half her sweet potato, and he'd already finished his?

He's tiny, yet his appetite is huge.

"No need to thank me," she said, suddenly losing her appetite, "Let's go home, it's late."

The little boy nodded and walked away in the snow.
