Chapter 18: Joining the Battle
Join the Battle
Immediately, he looked at Rusui imploringly, his proud head bowed, "Help her, I beg you!"
"Alright." Rusui agreed without hesitation; even if Xichong hadn't spoken, she would have gone to help anyway.
Xizhi had always been extremely good to her, even intending to promote the Beastmen in the Mad Shark Tribe; both by reason and by sentiment, she ought to go help her.
Rusui swam forward with difficulty, enduring the sound waves that threatened to shatter her eardrums.
Before long, Rusui approached Xizhi. Seeing Xizhi, who had been tortured to the point of collapse, her hatred deepened. After getting close to Xizhi, she erected a barrier, barely managing to shield Xizhi from the onslaught of the sound waves.
This was Xichong's ability; she and Xichong had already wed and shared a deeper level of intimacy, and she was now able to fully utilize his ability.
Rusui's ability level was only Level Four, so she could not completely shield Xizhi, who was as large as a small island, from the damage of the sound waves.
Fortunately, although the sound waves were torturous, their ability level was not high. The remaining sound waves were still tolerable for Xizhi. After Xizhi caught her breath, she took Rusui and continued to fight.
Xizhi attacked while Rusui defended, but they were no match for one against two, going from being in control to suffering defeat after defeat.
After a few rounds, Baipei's face was as pale as paper, and a trace of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
"Baipei! So what if your Jingju Tribe is strong? Do you know what it means to be outnumbered?"
"Hahahaha!"
Watching the disheveled and fleeing Baipei, Xizhi laughed wildly.
But she hadn't been smug for long before her entire body began to tremble uncontrollably.
A wisp of purple thread entered her body, circling her massive whale-shark heart. From the purple thread, a brand-new vine split off and tightened around the heart, while five Wind Blades pierced fiercely into the heart.
"Ah! It hurts!"
Xizhi lay painfully on the surface of the sea, hoping to alleviate the sharp pain coming from her heart.
Rusui looked at her with worry, wanting to help but having no idea how. She glared fiercely at Baipei and said, "What are you doing? What kind of underhanded methods did you secretly use?"
Baipei wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and sneered, "You were many attacking few, and you wounded me like this, yet you ask me what methods I used?"
He looked indifferently at Xizhi, who was rolling in the sea in pain, and gave a mocking laugh, "Chief Xizhi should ask the tribe's physician to take a look; don't blame everything on me!"
"You..."
Rusui swam hurriedly beside Xizhi, completely at a loss for what to do.
"Sister, how are you feeling now!"
"My heart... my heart, it hurts so much!"
The heart, pierced and bleeding from several small Wind Blades, was covered in wounds, with blood slowly flowing out and drifting into the heart chamber.
Chaosheng's face was pale. For the first time, she was using Witch Power in conjunction with her ability to harm someone. She remained calm on the surface, not letting any Beastman see her movements.
She didn't want Xizhi's life, but after such an ordeal, she would be left with a chronic ailment, which might keep her from coming to cause trouble in the future.
As if thinking of something, Rusui turned her head abruptly and stared fixedly at Chaosheng, "Was it you? It was you, wasn't it?"
Such a bizarre thing must have something to do with this Mermaid!
Chaosheng bit her lip, her lips turning a deep red, her eyes clear and innocent, "I don't know what you are talking about..."
Only the slightly curled corner of her mouth revealed the indifference in her heart.
Her strike had been so subtle and undetectable; even if Rusui could guess, what could she do to her?
"You're still pretending?" Rusui looked at her angrily, "Besides you, who else could have harmed Sister Xizhi like this?"
Chaosheng just shook her head blankly, "It really wasn't me..."
In the sea, a large figure was quietly approaching; it was Baini returning.
Baini had vented to his heart's content and felt sleepy, but upon hearing the commotion while half-asleep, he immediately swam back.
As soon as Baini returned, he saw Chaosheng being bullied and was instantly furious. Some despicable Beastman was bullying Sheng while he was away!
"What do you want to do?"
Rusui's body trembled; Baini, this little tyrant, was back! He wouldn't care about any rules regarding Male Beastmen not harming Female Beastmen.
She endured her fear and replied, "This Mermaid harmed my sister like this; you ask me what I want to do?"
Baini glanced indifferently at the whale-shark female, who was as large as an island and tossing and wailing in the sea, a trace of disgust crossing his eyes, "If your sister is hurt, go find a physician to look at her."
"Maybe she had something wrong with her in the first place!"
"What does that have to do with my Mate?"
"Don't you dare try to blame us."
"Sheng is so delicate, how could she possibly hurt such a huge lump like her!"
"Ha!" Chaosheng was amused by Baini and laughed out loud; her originally gloomy mood improved quite a bit because Baini had returned.
Chaosheng waved gently, summoning Baini to her side, a trace of joy appearing in her eyes, "Baini, you're back?"
"Mm." Having been apart for only a moment, the longing was like a flood. Baini hugged Chaosheng tightly, his voice clingy, "I felt someone bullying you, so I came back."
Baini swept away the gloom of the morning and became vibrant and cheeky again. His clear, handsome brows and eyes rippled with a touch of unruliness, yet when he looked at Chaosheng, he would unconsciously reveal two parts of tenderness.
Chaosheng hugged Baini's neck and smiled, letting Baini hold her. Feeling the breath Baini sprayed against her neck and his scorching body temperature, a intoxicating sweetness flowed through her heart.
Rusui felt her heart chamber tighten from Baini's sharp tongue, and she was so angered by their oblivious, sweet embrace that she felt a cerebral infarction.
These two Beastmen were really...
Rusui clenched her fists, just about to retort that Sister Xizhi had nothing wrong with her, but when her eyes touched the silent Yinxu nearby, the words that were about to spill out were abruptly cut off.
She could feel the danger emanating from this Beastman. Yinxu was the highest-level ability user known in the Polar Sea.
She had forgotten that Chaosheng had married them today, which meant that the lowly Mermaid had leaped to become the strongest Female Beastman in the Polar Sea.
Yinxu looked at Rusui indifferently, his dark brown eyes condensing into a cold, ink-like color. At a glance, they looked like a pair of black eyes, bottomless and pitch-black, chilling to the bone. His voice was cold, "Take your sister to see a physician; if you're late, it will be delayed."
"Yes... yes." Her breath hitched. She wasn't brainless; with her sister injured, she couldn't afford to offend these Beastmen right now.
Seeing that it was best to quit while ahead, she swam back to Xizhi's side.
She leaned in to Xizhi and said, "Sister Xizhi, turn into your human form, and we will take you to find a physician."
Xizhi's consciousness, blurred by pain, cleared by two parts; enduring the agonizing pain in her chest, she transformed into her human form, her cold and glamorous face already haggard and pale from the torture, with a trace of blood even flowing from the corner of her mouth.
Rusui, carrying the nearly unconscious Xizhi, swam heavily back along the path they had come; this was her Beast Husband's sister, and the feud she had with Chaosheng and the others was also because of the hatred of their Mad Shark Tribe, but now that she was injured like this, she did not know how to answer to Xichong.
Could it be that, just as her elder sister said, she was truly wrong to be obsessed with avenging Rutong?
