Chapter 43: The Efficacy of Sea Spirit Ginseng
The Efficacy of Sea Spirit Ginseng
Chaosheng looked at that thin, pale hand, a trace of unease flashing in the depths of her eyes.
Her gaze dimmed slightly, and she blinked as if to cover it up, not responding to Guxian's words.
"The Mental Sea was not completely purified this time."
"Come find me again in ten days."
"It will take three purifications in total."
The effect of the Chunze Vine seemed quite good; Chaosheng estimated that she could call over a few more Sea Beastmen next time.
She paused, then said candidly, "After three times, the Black Filth in the Mental Sea can be completely purified."
"What?" Shanlan stood up in surprise, her hands, which had been embracing Bao San, dropping instantly, her pupils trembling with excitement, "It can still be completely purified?"
A trace of confusion flashed in Chaosheng's eyes; was it not possible?
She knew the purification effect of the Chunze Vine was a bit weak, and she had been worried they might mind or find it troublesome.
Bao San also excitedly took two steps forward, his eyes shining with an intensity that showed he couldn't believe what he had just heard.
"You say... r-really?" Bao San swayed in disbelief, swallowing his saliva unconsciously, his gaze growing increasingly fervent, "Can the Mental Sea really be purified?"
Chaosheng frowned, feeling a bit bewildered, but still said truthfully, "Of course it can."
"Heavens! Is this true?"
Bao San was so excited he danced with joy, lifting Shanlan up and spinning her around twice, "Mate, is this true?"
"Mm-hmm, it's true." Shanlan laughed happily, her hands held high.
The confusion on Chaosheng's face deepened; she had no idea how much of a shock her words had given them.
Guxian chuckled, his eyes deep and his smile faint, "Before the appearance of Sea Spirit Ginseng, Sea Beastmen had no way to deal with the Black Filth that disturbed the Mental Sea."
"They could only be tortured until they burst and died."
"Until the Sea Spirit Ginseng appeared."
"Whenever a Beastman's Mental Sea riots, they can take Sea Spirit Ginseng to clear away a portion of the Black Filth, which can temporarily suppress the rioting Mental Sea."
Chaosheng was stunned, her crimson lips parted in shock, her beautiful, vivid eyes wide and round.
She finally knew where the problem lay.
She had always known that Sea Spirit Ginseng could clear the Mental Sea, so she had subconsciously equated Sea Spirit Ginseng with herbs like the Yusheng Flower and Chunze Vine.
In reality, eating raw Sea Spirit Ginseng could only clear away a portion of the Black Filth, barely suppressing the rioting Mental Sea to make the Beastman calm down.
But that was merely drinking poison to quench thirst; long-term use of Sea Spirit Ginseng would lead to drug resistance, and in the later stages, it would only become increasingly painful.
The curve of Guxian's mouth deepened slightly; he knew Chaosheng had certainly understood his meaning.
"There has never been anything that can completely purify the Mental Sea."
But you can.
A Pink Jade Pearl lost in the Polar Sea.
Chaosheng listened in astonishment; she had always thought she was hiding it well and keeping a low profile, never expecting that she had already let the secret slip.
If those Sea Beastmen knew she could purify the Mental Sea, it would surely cause an uproar.
But...
She turned her head slowly, looking at Shanlan and Bao San, who were still immersed in joy, the emotions in her eyes unreadable.
She thought she probably wouldn't regret it.
The cold sea breeze blew in, carrying the scent of seawater; her snow-white feet stood on the Ice Shore, her skin color blending into the ice and snow behind her.
Listening to the sound of the waves crashing, Chaosheng's heart was uncharacteristically unsettled.
Guxian lowered his head and whispered a few words to the Dumbo Octopus, and then the Dumbo Octopus happily wiggled its tentacles and crawled away.
This small area was instantly left with only Chaosheng and Guxian.
Not far away, Shanlan and Bao San were talking intimately.
Guxian looked at the Mermaid Female before him, a hint of deep meaning flickering imperceptibly in his eyes, "I heard you have already taken Beast Husbands."
"I thought a female like you would be more selective."
Chaosheng blinked rapidly as she listened; what did that mean?
Was there malice? It didn't seem like it.
It just felt strange.
Her eyes fell on Guxian's flowing red hair, her expression complex, her tone earnest, "Yes, I haven't just taken Beast Husbands, I've taken two."
"I think they are very good, there is no need to pick anything else."
"Is that so?" Guxian's eyelids drooped slightly, the smile on his lips stiffening, his tone remaining gentle, "The females in this world are always keen on taking more high-ranking Male Beastmen."
"A female as beautiful and capable as you should deserve more and better Beast Husbands."
Chaosheng pursed her lips, clearly unhappy, but since this was the little octopus's brother, she couldn't get angry at him, so she could only say, "I think two Beast Husbands are enough."
"I don't like living with too many Beastmen."
Guxian keenly sensed Chaosheng's dissatisfaction, his gentle tone unchanged as he said unhurriedly, "Apologies, I spoke out of turn."
"Females like you are truly too rare; I was just a bit curious."
"Octopus Beastmen have no Tribe; I once joined a Tribe before."
"But the female of that Tribe was not easy to get along with; if anything was unsatisfactory, she would whip her Beast Husbands to vent."
"Many Male Beastmen were beaten into a sorry state."
When he spoke of these things, it was light and airy, a faint sadness appearing on his beautiful, picturesque face.
A trace of pity grew in Chaosheng's eyes as she looked at him; that was indeed quite pitiful.
Thinking again of the chronic illnesses on his body, she felt a bit uncomfortable.
"This... there are still many Female Beastmen who are not like that."
Chaosheng was not very good at comforting people; she organized her words with a conflicted expression, trying to find a way to console him: "You shouldn't have a Mate, right?"
"In the future, if you want to get married, just keep your eyes open and find a reliable Female Beastman."
Chaosheng thought for a moment; she had little contact with Female Beastmen, but people like Shanlan and Baiqi were at least quite good to their own Beast Husbands.
She looked up and saw that Guxian's expression had not loosened, his face still flickering with a faint, lingering fragility; she pondered for a moment, "If you don't want to find a Female Beastman, then don't get married."
"If you live as a Beast by yourself, you probably wouldn't have these troubles."
Guxian lowered his head and chuckled softly, his deep red eyes staring straight at Chaosheng, "Actually, I still want to find a Mate."
"A beast's life is lonely; how can one not have a Mate to rely on each other?"
"..." Chaosheng twitched the corner of her mouth, her expression becoming somewhat strange; this Beastman gave her a hair-raising feeling.
It was weird; she always felt like his words had hidden meanings.
Guxian withdrew his gaze and stopped looking at Chaosheng; a gentle, faint smile curled upon his fragile and delicate face, and the cinnabar mole at the corner of his eye became even more vivid.
"Meeting you today, I was truly a bit excited."
"If I said the wrong thing, I hope you won't take offense."
The soft voice was hidden in the damp and cold sea breeze, brushing gently against Chaosheng's ears; Chaosheng's eyes flickered slightly, and hearing him say this, a rare sense of guilt arose in her heart—her attitude toward him had indeed not been very good, and now she had even made him misunderstand.
"It's fine, it's not your problem."
