Chapter 73: Octopus Cub
Octopus Cub
Chaosheng took Guxian to the location of the Chunze Vine.
The lush green Chunze Vines were intertwined in a dense patch; since Guxian had come, Chaosheng directed him without any hesitation.
"This one, and this one, I want them all."
Chaosheng pointed at a few that looked good, signaling Guxian to harvest them all.
Guxian felt no unhappiness at being ordered around; instead, a strange sweetness welled up in his heart. "Alright."
He moved very quickly; although Guxian looked frail, his strength was great, and with almost one in each hand, he soon harvested the vines Chaosheng had requested.
"Sheng, do you need anything else?"
Guxian asked Chaosheng softly while holding the pile of harvested vines.
Chaosheng was slightly stunned, and pointing somewhat numbly, she said, "Take these two as well."
He... really was more than met the eye.
In this instant, Chaosheng gained a new understanding of the Male Beastmen of the Polar Sea.
"Hurry up, we'll go up once we're done."
"It won't be good if this isn't fresh."
"Mm." Two parts of seriousness appeared on Guxian's delicate face; he held the Chunze Vines in his arms steady with one hand, gripped those two vines with the other, and with a forceful tug, he pulled them off alive.
"I'm done."
Placing the last two vines into his arms, Guxian swam toward Chaosheng with the pile of vines.
"Good." Chaosheng still had a hint of surprise on her face as she said to Guxian, "Then let's go."
Chaosheng did not slack off herself and also picked up two Chunze Vines.
The Chunze Vines were thick and long, looking like sea snakes at a casual glance.
"Mm."
Guxian swam alongside Chaosheng, and even while holding so many heavy Chunze Vines, he did not swim with much difficulty.
"Guxian, you probably don't know, do you?"
"Baini is a Seventh-tier Beastman now."
"Do you remember how he was always sleeping a while ago? I thought something had happened to him; I didn't expect he was preparing for this advancement."
Along the way, Guxian had not spoken, so Chaosheng casually found a topic to dispel the awkwardness.
Guxian's hands holding the Chunze Vines tightened, his fingertips turning white with the force; he, who had been enjoying being alone with Chaosheng, secretly bit his lower lip. "So that's how it is."
"Congratulations."
He said this congratulation very reluctantly, but Chaosheng only assumed he was struggling because he was carrying too many Chunze Vines and his breathing was unstable, so she didn't pay much attention to it.
"Thank you."
When Chaosheng and Guxian reached the shore, Xiaodu was already waiting there early with Bao San and Shanlan.
This time, both Shanlan and Bao San were in much better spirits, their faces beaming with happy smiles, a stark contrast to the sorrowful looks they had when they first met.
As soon as she saw Chaosheng and the others land, Shanlan waved at them impatiently, "Hey! You're here!"
Then she ran toward their direction with Bao San.
Xiaodu flapped its two fleshy fins, wiggling its thick, short tentacles to follow slowly behind.
Chaosheng placed the Chunze Vines on the ground and looked at Shanlan with a smile, "Long time no see."
Shanlan's thin cheeks had rounded out a bit; it seemed she had spent the last ten days well.
With Bao San having hope for survival, and now that Bao San had abilities and time to accompany her, Shanlan's life was naturally more comfortable than before.
"Thank you." Shanlan was sincerely grateful to the female before her, "Bao San has been much better these past few days, and he hasn't had a Mental Sea Riot again."
"Your kindness to us is truly too great; we have no way to repay you."
"If you have any needs, you can command us as you please."
Shanlan remembered what she had promised when she begged Chaosheng back then.
She would not break her word; no matter what request Chaosheng had, she was willing to do it.
"Alright."
Chaosheng did not refuse; she looked at Bao San and Guxian, "Let's purify your Mental Seas first."
"We can talk about other things later."
Guxian and Bao San knelt behind the Chunze Vines; the moment they sat down, a bright yellow light fell from the lush green Chunze Vines.
The raging fire burned the Chunze Vines, slowly raising a thin wisp of smoke; just by sniffing it slightly, one could feel that the filth in their Mental Seas had lessened quite a bit.
Not until the Chunze Vines were burned to ashes did the two Male Beastmen slowly open their eyes, their gazes two parts brighter.
"This time is over."
"We will do the final time in ten days."
"Okay, okay." Shanlan held Bao San's hand and said excitedly, "Thank you, thank you."
She now completely trusted this female and did not hold any doubts about her words.
Guxian felt his Mental Sea, which had become much lighter, and the corners of his mouth curled slightly; his gaze, carrying a hint of depth, fell upon the swaying little octopus, "Xiaodu."
Hearing his brother call him, the little octopus moved over quickly, "Brother!"
"Brother's business is finished; does Xiaodu want to play here for a while?"
"Mm?" The little octopus's swaying fleshy fins paused, and a flash of bright confusion appeared in its bean-sized eyes; play? What was there to play with here?
"If Xiaodu wants to play here, you can have two extra fish tonight," Guxian continued to coax.
A trace of longing appeared in Xiaodu's eyes, but it still nimbly extended three tentacles, "Then I want three."
Guxian smiled triumphantly, "Alright, three it is."
After Chaosheng saw Bao San and Shanlan off, she turned back to see Guxian and Xiaodu still standing there, so she walked over curiously and asked, "Are you not leaving?"
Guxian gently pinched Xiaodu's fleshy fins and said, "Xiaodu says he wants to play for a while longer."
"Mmm..." Xiaodu's attention was entirely on the hand pinching his little ears; he didn't notice what Guxian had said at all.
"Oh, I see." Chaosheng nodded in realization. Looking at this orange-red little cutie, her heart stirred, and she wished she could reach out and tease him too.
But hindered by the presence of the little octopus's guardian, Chaosheng could only squat to the side and watch the little octopus, "Has he finished all the fish I caught for Xiaodu last time?"
"Do you want me to go catch some more?"
Guxian's gaze, filled with hidden meaning, fell upon the little octopus who was about to speak, and he pressed his fingertip down threateningly, "No need."
"I will hunt for him."
Chaosheng looked at the little octopus's soft, bouncy, jelly-like body, a trace of longing appearing in her eyes; she really wanted to pet him too.
Come to think of it, she seemed to have a fluffy one at home who should also be very pettable, but unfortunately, Yinxu didn't seem to like turning into his beast form, mostly staying in human form.
She also felt embarrassed to ask him to turn into a big white bear for her to play with.
Thinking of this, Chaosheng sighed silently in her heart.
Noticing Chaosheng's gaze, Guxian said as if unintentionally, "You seem to like Xiaodu very much."
"He is very cute."
Hearing Chaosheng's straightforward praise, the little octopus happily shivered his two transparent fleshy fins; this female actually had quite good taste.
"Little octopuses are all like this." His red eyes deepened slightly, and a faint, elusive smile hung on Guxian's pale lips, "If you like them, you could find an Octopus Beastman to be your Beast Husband."
"Then there will be many cute Octopus Cubs in the future."
