Celeste realized there was a lot that was being kept from her.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>She had always believed if she worked hard enough, she could replace Azkar in the winged man’s eyes and become his most trusted confidant.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>But it seemed there was a large part of their endeavour that was known only to Azkar and the winged man, there was some manner of understanding between them and Celeste could not figure it out.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>How could she truly know what she was signing her clan up for if even after so many decades, she was still kept out of the loop?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste heaved a quiet sigh, clenching her hands into fists at her sides as she debated opening the box for herself.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>It was no harm to just take a glimpse at the contents, but at the same time, Celeste knew there was nothing she could hide from the winged man.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He had a unique way of figuring everything out, somehow...he just knew, he always knew.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>If Celeste were to open the box at this moment, she wondered if what she would see within would be worth facing the winged man’s wrath.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste was drawn out of her thoughts when a dark fairy stepped into her hall.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Lady Celeste.\" The dark fairy greeted, lowering his head to a bow.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"How many survivors?\" Celeste asked.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>They had gotten what they were after and now it was time to take stock of the sacrifices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The dark fairy did not respond immediately and Celeste exhaled heavily,\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>She could already guess what her subordinate was going to say but his next words still hit her hard.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"None, the storm singers were annihilated.\" The dark fairy relayed.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste sucked in a sharp breath, her eyes fluttering closed.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>It was not truly a surprise that the storm singers had not survived, they were faced against the great beasts of Asvar, how could they stand a chance?\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>They had put their lives on the line to create the chance for Celeste to retrieve this box and they had paid for it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Death was unavoidable in war, sacrifices were inevitable when one was to achieve a great cause, Celeste had told this to herself time and time again.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>But this was Celeste’s family, her clan...or what was left of it and each life was of great value to Celeste.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Now, she had let so many die and she did not even know the purpose of their deaths or if she could conclude it was worth it or otherwise.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Their remains?\" Celeste asked after she steadied her voice.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"We retrieved what we could before the dragons set fire to the forest. But a few were lost to the flames.\" The dark fairy reported.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste’s clenched fists tightened painfully, the dragons were always a nuisance, they decided the fate of the stronghold as though it was their playground.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste wanted them gone, she wanted to watch their dynasty crumble into nothing just like her life had, caught up in the flames they so dearly loved.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Prepare a worthy funeral and send word to the clan, we will send them off with the highest regard.\" Celeste ordered quietly.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Understood.\" The dark fairy said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"And what of him?\" Celeste asked.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Lord Azkar disappeared from the scene not long after.\" The dark fairy reported.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"He did not attempt to save the troll golem? Could it be he was there just to save that wolf girl?\" Celeste asked suspiciously.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Lord Azkar does not show interest in such matters, he has no reasons to save a strange girl.\" The dark fairy replied.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Hmmm...\" Celeste hummed, thinking back to how protective Azkar had been that night.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste shook her head slightly.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Perhaps I am overthinking it.\" Celeste decided, nodding her permission for the dark fairy to take his leave.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>When he was gone, Celeste stared down at the box once again and she put aside her apprehensions and unlocked it, slowly pushing the lid open.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste’s eyes widened in alarm but she did not get to utter a word when the box was snatched from her hand.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Celeste turned around to find the winged man and Azkar both sat in her hall, staring at her pointedly.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>When they had arrived or how they had gotten in, Celeste could not imagine but she immediately began explaining herself.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"I did not touch it, I swear it. I brought it over as it was, I do not know what happened.\" Celeste explained quickly.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"You mean to say the contents of the box just... disappeared?\" The winged man asked, turning over the empty box, a dark look in his eyes.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"Celeste...you had best provide me a reasonable explanation.\" The winged man added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The wheels spun in Celeste’s head and it was then it clicked.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"My Lord! It was the girl, the wolf girl! Her blood activated the treasure within the box... I saw it with my own eyes, the box glowed and released a strange magical force that attacked me!\" Celeste exclaimed.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The winged man raised a brow, glancing down at the box with a complicated expression.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"You mean to say, the treasure was activated by her blood... \" The winged man murmured.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\"That would mean...it bonded with her.
