Chapter 58: Revenge

~7 min read 1,248 words

A refugee grabbed Jiang Xiaoyu's hair and threw her down hard onto the ground.

"Ah!"

Jiang Xiaoyu let out a miserable scream, her head slammed hard against the ground, her vision went black, and she fainted.

"Xiao Yu!"

Jiang Xiaomu's eyes nearly burst; he exerted all his strength, wanting to rush over to save his sister, but he was surrounded by more refugees, blades flashing, engulfing him.

"Damn it! Damn it!" Jiang Xiaomu roared, waving his short saber, fearing he might not survive today.

A refugee's saber slashed at Jiang Xiaomu's chest; he had no time to dodge, he took the blow head-on, and with a backhand strike he cut the refugee's throat.

"Kill! Kill! Kill!"

Finally, the last refugee collapsed at his feet.

Jiang Xiaomu leaned on his saber, swaying as he stood; his body had reached its limit, his vision blurred, and he could collapse at any moment.

"Xiao Yu..."

Using the last of his strength, he stumbled over to Jiang Xiaoyu's side.

Jiang Xiaoyu lay still on the ground, her face pale, her breathing faint.

"Xiao Yu! Wake up!"

Jiang Xiaomu trembled as he reached out his hand, gently stroking Jiang Xiaoyu's cheek.

Jiang Xiaoyu's eyelids twitched slightly, she slowly opened her eyes, seeing Jiang Xiaomu covered in blood, and she instantly woke up from fright.

"Brother! You..."

"It's fine, I'm fine..." Jiang Xiaomu forced a weak smile.

"Don't be scared, brother is here..."

Cao Meng's ferocious face loomed large in Jiang Xiaomu's blurry vision; he held a broadsword and walked over to Jiang Xiaomu unhurriedly.

"Jiang Xiaomu, how does it feel? Now you know the pain of losing loved ones, right?"

"I will make you watch your sister die before your eyes, making you wish you were dead!"

"I will make you spend the rest of your life in agony, hahaha..."

A fishy sweetness welled up in Jiang Xiaomu's mouth; he strained to open his mouth, his voice hoarse:

"Please... spare her... I am willing to trade my life..."

Cao Meng raised his broadsword, aiming it at Jiang Xiaoyu.

"No!" Jiang Xiaomu's eyes nearly burst.

At the critical moment, a 'ding' sounded, and a black shadow flashed past.

The broadsword was bounced away by an invisible force, numbing his tiger's mouth.

Cao Meng's heart jumped: 'Holy shit, what's going on, what happened!'

Jiang Xiaomu also froze; this sudden change sparked hope in his heart.

The broadsword fell, but instead of the expected spray of warm flesh and blood, it felt like striking a lump of raw iron.

Cao Meng felt a huge force transmitted from the sword, soring his tiger's mouth, and he staggered backward.

Before he could steady himself, a heavy, powerful elbow strike smashed hard into his chest.

Cao Meng felt his five viscera and six bowels shift; his whole body flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing hard to the ground.

He struggled to lift his head; before him stood a burly man with a black headscarf wrapped around his head, covering half his face.

"Damn bastard, who are you? Report your name!"

Cao Meng shouted hoarsely, this sudden turn completely disrupted his plan.

The burly man snorted coldly and said, "I'm your father!"

This man was Dong Zhang, one of the Ghost Face Army commanders, and also the only ruthless fighter who needs no weapons.

His cultivated Eight-Arm Fist Technique is fierce and brutal, combined with the hard-qi Iron Cloth Shirt from external training, enough to let him slaughter in all directions, unstoppable.

"Sorry, Chief, I got drunk last night and couldn't get out of bed; I'm not late, am I?"

Dong Zhang tightened the strap on his hand and looked at Jiang Xiaomu.

"It's fine, you came just in time."

At this moment, Jiang Xiaomu held his sister, already breathing out more than in.

Dong Zhang moved his body, and in the blink of an eye he closed in on Cao Meng; since he needed no weapon, his speed was extremely fast.

He used fists and feet together, each move vicious, pouring down like a violent storm.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The dull impact sounds kept ringing; Cao Meng was beaten back step by step.

"Hah!"

Dong Zhang let out an explosive shout, and a heavy, powerful sweep kick slammed hard into Cao Meng's chest.

Cao Meng was kicked several meters away, crashed heavily to the ground, and spat out a mouthful of blood.

He struggled to crawl up from the ground, his face pale, and pulled out a severely deformed heart-protecting armor from his bosom.

He felt a surge of lingering fear: if not for this heart-protecting armor, that kick would have killed him on the spot.

"How... how is this possible..." Cao Meng stared at Dong Zhang.

"Your strength... how can it be so great?"

Dong Zhang curled his lip disdainfully and said:

"Hmph, trash, I don't have time to play with you."

"Black Pagoda!"

Before his words faded, his figure swelled, black energy surged around him, and he formed seals with both hands.

Cao Meng hadn't reacted yet, only feeling a blur before his eyes, Dong Zhang was already in front of him.

"Crack!" With a crisp sound, Dong Zhang's punch broke the broadsword in Cao Meng's hand.

Cao Meng's eyes widened, and before he could let out a scream, Dong Zhang firmly grabbed both of his arms.

"Ah!"

A heart-rending scream finally rang out, and Dong Zhang suddenly exerted force, actually tearing Cao Meng's arms right off his body.

Blood spurted out, Cao Meng writhed in agony on the ground, his shrill screams echoing in the air.

Dong Zhang seized Cao Meng's head and twisted hard—"Crack!"

Another crisp sound rang out, Cao Meng's head was twisted off, rolling to the side, his eyes wide open in death.

Jiang Xiaomu watched this bloody, brutal scene, his heart jolted.

Although he hated Cao Meng, such a bloody scene still made him feel somewhat uneasy.

"Ugh..." Jiang Xiaoyu finally couldn't hold back and vomited.

Dong Zhang stepped through the blood-soaked ground, walked up to Jiang Xiaomu, clasped his fists and bowed, saying:

"Leader, how are you?"

Jiang Xiaomu felt his vision darkening in waves, and the weight of his sister in his arms seemed to grow light as air.

He summoned his last strength and spat out two words: "Save people..."

Then he collapsed face-first, completely losing consciousness.

When he awoke again, a sharp pain came from his abdomen; Jiang Xiaomu found himself lying on a crude military camp bed, his wound wrapped in thick bandages, faintly seeping blood.

"You're awake?" a gruff voice sounded.

Jiang Xiaomu turned his head and saw Dong Zhang sitting at the table, holding a wine gourd.

"And Xiao Yu?"

Jiang Xiaomu struggled to sit up, but Dong Zhang pressed him down.

"The young lady is fine; she's just frightened. The Doctor has prescribed a calming remedy, and she'll recover after a few days of rest."

Dong Zhang said.

"Have a drink."

Jiang Xiaomu took the wine gourd and drank slowly.

The strong liquor went down, warming his stomach.

"Dong Zhang, how did you find us outside the city?"

Jiang Xiaomu set down the gourd and voiced the doubt in his heart.

Dong Zhang took a sip of wine and said:

"It's the Ghost Servant Sir; he had already calculated that today at sunset, the Leader and his sister would be in danger."

"So Ye Ying Sir specially sent me to check; I didn't expect to run into you just now."
