Chapter 4: Heaven and Hell

~8 min read 1,475 words

Dusk, the setting sun is like blood.

The surrounding trees are all leaning askew, and the corpses of some animals lie on the ground. A bonfire is lit in the woods, with two chickens and an unknown creature roasting on a simple wooden rack above it, and bones are scattered everywhere on the ground.

"Hmm~"

"Hiss~"

"Hurry up, speed it up."

"I can't do it anymore, Captain."

Luo Di takes a bite of the roasted chicken in his hand, looks at Ka Li Na who is doing push-ups, and shows an expression of disappointment at her lack of resolve.

"As the captain, I'm working this hard, so you have to train too. Otherwise, how are you going to experience the winds and waves of the sea with me, hey?"

"Ninety-nine, one hundred!"

Thump.

Ka Li Na collapses directly onto the ground, revealing an expression of utter hopelessness, and pouts, "I'm telling you, this captain of yours is too much. I'm a navigator, and a woman at that; you can't expect me to do manual labor."

Just as she finishes speaking, the roasted chicken on the bonfire suddenly flies up into the air on its own and drifts to Luo Di's mouth.

Seeing this, Ka Li Na's dissatisfaction gradually fades, and she sits up to pick up the last one and gnaw on it.

Full and satisfied, Luo Di strokes his belly and sits there with a look of contentment.

The seasonings were taken directly from the townspeople; the simplest barbecue brings the ultimate enjoyment. Looking at the bones all over the ground, Ka Li Na thinks this guy can really eat. Fortunately, there is plenty of prey in the mountains, and Luo Di has enough strength to get them onto the grill; she only needs to be responsible for the roasting.

Luo Di sits in front of the bonfire, fiddling with a Flintlock, his thoughts racing.

In the JOJO world, Star Platinum is a five-A-rated Stand with maxed-out destructive power, speed, durability, precision, and growth potential. It can catch bullets with its bare hands, perform high-precision sketching, and even act as a cardiac pacemaker.

Thinking of this, he raises the Flintlock and points it at his own head.

"Hey, what are you doing!" Ka Li Na gasps in shock.

Luo Di lowers the gun and twitches the corner of his mouth.

He doesn't want his own Star Platinum's range to become C, and besides...

There are real bullets in my gun.

Ka Li Na scolds lightly: "Can you stop joking around all the time? What if it goes off accidentally..."

"If I die, there will be no one to protect you, right?" Luo Di laughs.

Hearing this, Ka Li Na shows a helpless expression, a flash of fear passing through her eyes. She started working as a thief at the age of eight and has been struggling in the East Blue for ten years. She has been to many countries and experienced all kinds of dangers. Except for a brief interaction with Nami, she has always been alone.

Of course, she doesn't treat Luo Di as a real captain right now, and she understands that Luo Di needs her skills for sailing. Just as Luo Di said, she is just looking for a "protective umbrella" for now. If Luo Di were to drop dead one day, she would look for another path at any time.

Ka Li Na is still hesitating whether to tell him everything, when Luo Di stands up and claps his hands: "Let's go."

"Ah, where to?" Ka Li Na asks.

Luo Di says crossly: "To find a place to sleep, of course. Do you want to sleep here?"

"Oh, okay." Ka Li Na stands up. Previously, she was worried that Luo Di would want to sleep here at night. Although there are only the two of them, the surrounding beasts are not to be trifled with. If Luo Di were to fall into a deep sleep, there might be unknown dangers, and she would have to stand guard.

Besides, she hasn't bathed for two days. Because her luggage was lost in the previous battle, she has no way to change her underwear, and as a girl, she naturally feels very uncomfortable.

However, Black Reef Village has almost turned into ruins, so there is definitely no way to stay there. Now they can only go to the nearest town.

The full moon hangs high. Luo Di looks up at the starry sky, watching the brilliant galaxy, forgetting how many years it has been since he saw this sight in his previous life.

The sea breeze brushes past. The two, one tall and one short, walk along the path by the moonlight. The wind carries a salty, fishy smell and the refreshing scent of flowers, and the moonlight stretches their shadows very, very long.

"By the way, what year is it now?" Luo Di asks suddenly.

"1520." Ka Li Na looks surprised, thinking to herself that this guy doesn't even know this; is he really reliable?

"Do you know where Windmill Village is?" Luo Di continues to ask.

"Never heard of it. Why are you asking?"

"Just asking."

"Oh."

1520, that should be the year Wang Lufei set sail. He is currently in the same era as him, just not sure if he has set sail yet.

He has no intention of riding anyone's coattails. Since he finally came here, he certainly can't be someone else's lackey.

The Pirate King he speaks of is not like Wang Lufei and the others who want to find something as ethereal as One Piece. The intention behind Roger starting the Great Pirate Era is also unclear, but it is highly likely not just some treasure.

Because of one sentence, those pirates who plunged into the sea squeezed their heads and bled, but they didn't even know what it was.

For him, as long as he can let himself and his crew live a prosperous life and not feel fear of any power, he has already achieved his goal.

But that is still too far away for now.

First, he needs to find a place to stay.

Buma Town.

Inside a hotel room in the district.

The wind stops and the rain ceases. The man picks up a wine glass from the cabinet next to him, takes a sip, lights a cigarette, and exhales a thin stream of smoke into the air, looking completely satisfied.

The flushed woman rests her hand on his chest, drawing circles, her eyes alluring: "Darling, I don't want to take any other guests from now on."

The man looks to be in his thirties, his face sinister, his eyes as sharp as a snake or scorpion. He hugs the woman in his arms and says gently: "Don't worry, tonight has just begun. I will make you remember this night forever."

"That would be wonderful, my lord." The woman excitedly drapes her snow-white long legs over the sinister man's legs: "By the way, where are you from, my lord, and what are you going to do?"

"Me..." the sinister man says softly: "I come from a country called White Night, also in the East Blue, very far... from here, I suppose. Oh, right, my father is still there."

"Your father?" the woman says: "You are so powerful, your father must be remarkable too, right?"

"No, he is a complete bastard. I am just the product of him and a prostitute. From childhood to adulthood, he never gave me a good look, and even wanted to kill me."

After saying this, he strokes the woman's cheek and apologizes: "Sorry, I didn't mean to look down on you."

The flush on the woman's face has not yet faded. She shakes her head and says: "It's okay, my lord. It is my honor to serve you. If you could take me away, I could make you live in heaven every day."

Then she shows an expression of hatred: "Your father is truly a beast to treat you like that. Your mother is also at fault for handing you over to that bastard."

Bang!!!

The moment the woman finished speaking, the sinister man kicked her off the bed with a violent strike, sending her crashing into the wall beside it before she slumped onto the floor; she had no time to be shocked by the man's sudden change, as pain already flooded her entire body.

She could not understand at all why, having felt as if she were in heaven just a moment ago, she was suddenly cast into hell.

Raising her head with difficulty, she saw the sinister man's face; under the moonlight, only one side was visible, and it terrified her to the point of shattering her heart and gallbladder.

"You actually dare to insult my mother!" the sinister man glared with a ferocious expression.
