Chapter 42: Phoenix Fallen Wutong

Don't worry, I went out with your mom to chat with that rural woman; this thing is in her backyard chicken coop, no one else can get in, only your mom and I can.

A slight dizzy feeling came as Su Sheng appeared in the central plaza of Wutong Town, seeing his father's reply.

Su Sheng froze: "Then what if I can't get in either?"

"Don't worry, just have your mom say a word to that NPC; originally I couldn't get in either, but after your mom said something to the NPC, I could."

Su Sheng fell silent for a moment; okay, this is very much like his mom.

Soon, Su Sheng arrived at his parents' location according to the coordinates.

Indeed, he saw his mom chatting with a middle-aged woman NPC.

Meanwhile, his dad, dressed in a Daoist robe, stood aside in a daze until he spotted Su Sheng's figure, then his eyes lit up.

Su Sheng looked around and couldn't help admiring his mom's social skills—NPCs could chat too, although Teng Long Company had said that every game NPC basically has a complete storyline and uniqueness.

This is near the tailor shop in Wutong Town; there are truly many players coming and going, but aside from that tailor granny, the other NPCs have been explored by players.

However, after confirming there were no quests, all players treated these NPCs as mere scenery.

Including… Su Sheng.

"This is my son; let me introduce him—my son is quite capable, he'll definitely be able to help you."

As soon as Su Sheng arrived, his mom pulled him over to introduce him to that NPC granny.

"Young master, at first glance you look dignified and outstanding."

Facing the NPC granny's flattery, Su Sheng almost blushed.

"I believe you; after you handle that thing, I'm still waiting to raise chickens, otherwise my little chicks would have run in there."

System Notification: Player Granny Huang shares the unique quest "Phoenix Fallen Wutong"; accept?

Su Sheng's eyes widened; he had painstakingly drawn a unique quest item, the Demon-Driving Token, from the lottery.

For this, he also revealed the attributes of his Hidden Class and Dragon Scale Shield.

But his mom just chatted like that and got a unique quest, and it's even shareable.

Su Sheng naturally had no reason not to accept.

Phoenix Fallen Wutong (Unique Quest, Shared 3/5)

At a certain granny's chicken farm in Wutong Town, a passage to an unknown place appeared, and all the chickens she raised ran inside.

The granny asks you to help resolve this situation so she can raise chickens normally.

Really… a simple quest.

Su Sheng accepted the quest, thereby gaining qualification to enter that granny NPC's backyard.

His mom originally wanted to keep chatting, but after Su Sheng accepted the quest, the NPC urged him to hurry and solve the problem.

Finally, the family of three entered the NPC's backyard chicken coop.

However, the quest can be shared by five people; now, with himself plus his parents, only three are sharing.

The remaining two slots must not be wasted.

Afterwards, Su Sheng and his parents discussed and called back Huan Jie, and had her bring the priest from the Huakai.

That made exactly five people.

Su Sheng also explained, this is a good thing, so naturally there were no objections.

Good things should be shared among family.

As for that priest, it wasn't prepared by Su Sheng for himself, but for his parents and Huan Jie.

After all, the difficulty of the quest dungeon is still unknown; having a priest can also ensure some fault tolerance.

Although his mom's profession is actually also a priest…

But…

Soon, Lin Huan, who received a private message, arrived together with the Huakai priestess, Huang Mingxin.

After learning the full story, Lin Huan and Huang Mingxin were both stunned.

Having been influenced by "The Heroes," they clearly understood the value of a unique quest.

…

"Mom, Dad, Huan Jie, Mingxin Sis, let's go in."

Su Sheng, holding sword and shield, led the way into the dungeon.

The quest is now shared by five people, so all five must start the quest together to enter the dungeon.

System Notification: Entering the unique dungeon Phoenix Fallen Wutong.

Special Notice: The unique dungeon disappears after completion.

Dungeon Notice: It is rumored that Wutong Town has a towering wutong tree where a clan of Divine Phoenixes once roosted.

Later the Divine Phoenixes suffered bloodshed, their blood staining the wutong branches; now this mysterious place seems to have blood-stained wutong branches appearing.

Mission objective: exterminate all birds infected with the Divine Phoenix's aura, and recover the blood-stained wutong branches.

After reading the quest prompt, Su Sheng felt relieved.

So that's what the Phoenix Fallen Wutong quest means.

No wonder the NPC's chickens keep running in; these are the blood-stained wutong branches of the Divine Phoenix.

For the birds, that is a heaven-defying opportunity.

Broadly speaking, chickens… are also a kind of bird.

"Those are just what she originally raised as chickens, only not this big."

Mother Huang Hui pointed ahead at a large expanse of colorful, half-human-tall free-range chickens roaming about.

"Me and your mom are basically being hung out by them," said Father Su Wenhao, looking at those free-range chickens.

"I've decided, dinner will be chicken meat," Su Wenhao said somewhat resentfully.

I'll spawn the monster.

Lin Huan draws his bow and nocks an arrow.

Lin Huan's archery is still quite good; back in his school days he was the top guy in the shooting club, and he once even considered a career as a professional athlete.

But because Su Sheng joined the army and had to support his elderly parents, he eventually gave up that idea.

Grind~

One arrow hits.

Defense broken!

Lin Huan's level, given the beginner Dungeon Hui Long Zhai in Wutong Town and the many pieces of equipment Su Sheng supplied, is already 14.

For an agility‑based class, agility also grants extra attack power, and additionally provides extra penetration.

Moreover, at this stage, with top‑tier gear, Lin Huan's attack power also exceeds one hundred.

After spawning the monster, its attribute panel was displayed.

Phoenix‑breath Demon Chicken

Level: 15

Attack: 180

Defense: 130

HP: 5000

Skill: None

Description: An ordinary poultry tinged with faint phoenix breath, now demonic and highly aggressive.

It's weak enough; not only Su Sheng, even Lin Huan can solo it.

But after glancing at his parents, Su Sheng said nothing.

Besides, it was originally just ordinary poultry, so there's nothing to say.

Begin the kill…

He easily took down that demon chicken.

The experience is decent; truly the sole Dungeon.

Although for 17‑level Su Sheng this amount of XP isn't much, the monster is level 15, and Su Sheng wanted to bring his parents along, so the XP was split evenly this time.

Dungeon monsters give more XP than wild ones outside because there's no XP protection inside the Dungeon.

With Su Sheng and Lin Huan both firing at full power, they easily swept through that area of Phoenix‑breath Demon Chickens.

Watching the perfectly coordinated pair of "children," the elderly couple exchanged a knowing glance, each seeing a different meaning in the other's eyes.

They had no gear, but dropped plenty of food ingredients like eggs and some tailoring material—demon‑chicken feathers.

And the parents, with such abundant experience, leveled up together.
