--Liu Guozong Spring Diary 44

One can always, before dusk, conjure up a beautiful mood.

Now it is spring; although time has already changed the season's colors, it cannot correct yesterday's mistakes, yesterday's footprints, yesterday's words; including yesterday's hesitation, panic, abruptness, and shame...... I didn't realize that time really passes this quickly, and years flow this fast.

Since nothing can be salvaged, let the beautiful things lost yesterday--that is, the most painful parts of our hearts--reappear in the depths of dreams!

Let's leave those scattered worries and vague plots in memory--

Memory is a cup of wine; I urge you to drink another cup, I urge you to remember again.

Although Yangguan has nothing to do with us, old friends have a relation with us, friends have a relation with me, and bygone years have a relation with us.

If time is a wordless song, then this verdant willow color is not just a branch of tender lyrics?

Past stories, no one can recall the clear origins and developments of those events, the joys and sorrows of flowers and flowing water; even now only a vague outline remains.

Is the morning rain in Wei City still falling? The hazy sky filled with clouds and mist, those drifting rain threads in the breeze each seek a new direction and dream.

But after I drink this cup of wine, in the places where the fine rain drips, will there not be another new beauty growing?

Why must we cling to the fine rain? Is parting not also a new beauty? Why must we hold onto the past; does memory not also include warmth and happiness?

When I write these verses with tears in my eyes, the moon has already risen. That faint red cloud, is it the lipstick the moon just applied? True love needs no decoration, needs no lipstick...
