172 entries, the lamplight at seven o'clock in the evening

Liu Guozong's Spring Diary, Part Nine

The sky was dim and overcast, the weather not good. The sun after a busy day finally set.

The lamplight at seven o'clock in the evening lets me record the day's hardships and fatigue. The wind blows past my window; I know they will never return, just like the time I have wasted.

The birds on the paulownia tree, homeless wanderers, who will come to share your feelings in loneliness?

The night grows deeper, the stars like butterflies in a flower thicket, fluttering to and fro in the hazy moonlight. Yet I cannot approach them, just as I cannot approach those bygone years.

The poet said—

"Not looking back

"Not just those ancient times."

"Nor just those nights'"

"star clusters and the moon"

What is it?

Poet, your words leave me utterly bewildered!
