726 chapters, the two demons returned to Lianhuadong.

Speaking of autumn colors reaching the empty mountain, at night I listen to the parasol leaves falling; I gaze at the half‑window crescent moon, amid the fragrance of rice blossoms, hum a few lines of crooked poetry, and hide them under my pillow. Everyone says I am foolish. At the wall's corner, banana leaves rustle in the wind; colorful clouds veil the moon, darkening the window. The moon has departed, leaving only a few feet of distance; birds startle and take flight; a homeward‑bound ship ten thousand li away plays a flute. In this world, how much right and wrong—who knows? I suppose that in my old garden tonight I dream; in the dream the spring color is deep, willows dark, flowers bright, old trees grow beyond the wall's base. An empty wine cup—alas, light flies like an arrow, sun and moon like shuttles; layered passes and mountains, autumn beauty is lovely; I love the autumn air, and what I like is that the wind falls from the Great Wall, the sky joins the vast desert wide, and once again the autumn scenery appears before my eyes. Green mountains fade, waters stretch far; autumn nears Jiangnan, the grass not yet withered; autumn arrives where—mouth**? At midnight, sitting alone before the window. Sitting alone before the window, facing the bright moon and autumn wind, I again hum my little verses.

Last time the story said that Sun Wukong, due to a momentary lapse in vigilance, careless and inattentive, was placed by the demons into the Red Gourd. Readers surely want to know what the inside of the Red Gourd looks like.

The Wukong inside the Red Gourd said: 'What method did this demon use to stuff this old monkey into this bird‑place? How can I see nothing with five fingers, my eyes pitch‑black? I heard the demon say that whoever is put into the Red Gourd will, in a moment, turn into water. Could this demon possibly turn me into water? This is just a joke. What a great person I am! You demon, you are blind as a dog, mistaking the person. Think back, when I, the old monkey, caused havoc in the Heavenly Palace, I was captured by the Tathagata Buddha and handed over to the Supreme Elder Lord. That Supreme Elder Lord placed the old monkey into the Bagualu and refined him for a full forty‑nine days. Refined into my fiery eyes and golden pupils, golden liver and silver lungs, bronze head and iron bones, my whole body is courage, unmoved by thunder, unburned by fire. What can this little Red Gourd do to me?'

Thinking of this, he muttered to himself: 'This old monkey happens to take this opportunity to rest a while here. And then demon theory. Wukong's eyes half‑closed, nurturing essence and storing vigor, not speaking.'

These two blossoms on the same branch each show a flower.

Speaking of, the two demons used deceit to capture Wukong into the Red Gourd, and said to the little demons beside them: 'I say, you lot, everyone in the world says how formidable Sun Wukong's abilities are, but I think it's no more than that. Look, even if he had heavenly‑great abilities, he's still not been put into my Red Gourd and left at my mercy? You all listen, and you all hurry back to Lianhuadong, set up a great banquet, celebrate the victory, prepare to eat Tang Sanzang's flesh. After eating Tang Sanzang's flesh and drinking Tang Sanzang's broth, we brothers will become immortal. Then the world will belong to us brothers.'

The little demons on the hillside, hearing the two demon leaders say that eating Tang Sanzang's flesh and drinking his meat broth would grant immortality, all cheered, jumped, and waved their hands and feet. You see those demons all over the mountains and fields, they also became overexcited.

'Let's go, back to Lianhuadong!' the two demons waved at the little demons and said.

In the midst of speaking, the two demons led the little demons back to Lianhuadong———\
