Chapter 1134: 1105 Fortunately Met You

~7 min read 1,324 words

After finishing his cigarette, Yu Zong went back to look after Director Miao, while Zheng Renze and Su Yun left the ICU together.

Zheng Ren's performance became increasingly bland, and Su Yun grew more worried. If there's something on his mind, letting it out would be fine, but keeping it bottled up might cause a big problem.

After getting in the car, Zheng Ren remained in the passenger seat, Su Yun glanced sideways at Chang Yue and blinked, then said, "Did you have fun drinking tonight?"

"Having fun?" Chang Yue was playing with Heizi's dog head, Su Yun's expressions were all wasted on her; she completely didn't understand.

"……" Su Yun sighed helplessly, how could there be no tacit understanding at all? This person, really. If she could channel even half of her cleverness with patients, she probably wouldn't have been assigned to the Medical Department.

"If you have something to say, just say it quickly, don't be sneaky." Chang Yue said impatiently.

"I'm not addicted to drinking; today Heizi's first day here, let's take him out for skewers. You guess, does Heizi drink alcohol?" Su Yun rambled on, throwing together several things in one sentence.

However, the four people in the car were each lost in their own thoughts and didn't notice.

"Huh? Heizi drinks alcohol too?" Chang Yue exclaimed in surprise.

"How would you know if you don't try? Yiren, find a roadside stall or small shop; I'll take Chang Yue and Heizi out for drinks." Su Yun said immediately.

"Oh." Xie Yiren was worried about Zheng Ren's condition, after a moment's thought she understood Su Yun's meaning. She just let out an "oh", but there wasn't much she could do.

Shifting gears, the red Volvo XC60 slowly drove out of the underground parking.

Before midnight, the imperial capital was bustling, the night deepening; Su Yun quickly got out of the car with Chang Yue and Heizi, and finally winked at Xie Yiren.

Xie Yiren gave a slight nod to indicate she understood, then drove off.

"Hey, why are you acting so strange tonight?" Chang Yue asked.

"Are you stupid?" Su Yun said: "You didn't notice the boss acting odd?"

"Chief Zheng, what's wrong?" Chang Yue said indifferently: "It's just about Director Miao; you said her surgery was successful and there's nothing wrong, so what's there to worry about?"

"Even if I told you, you wouldn't get it—if you could put half of the thought you have for patients into..." Saying that, Su Yun froze for a moment.

Chang Yue doesn't understand? Impossible.

This person can sit and chat with a bloody murderer until he cries and turns himself in—how could she not understand?

She doesn't not understand; she just can't be bothered to deal with it.

Glancing sideways at Chang Yue, under the light her glasses reflected a rainbow of colors, making her look like a cartoon character.

It's just that overthinking makes things messy; Zheng Ren is fine. If he really wanted to do research, he'd go for it—with his monstrous talent, he could probably win a Nobel Prize in less than twelve years.

Having realized this, Su Yun laughed.

The matter is simple; as long as you don't mix in too many personal thoughts, it's easy to figure out.

"Come on, let's go drink." Su Yun took the dog's leash with her left hand and bumped Chang Yue with her shoulder.

Chang Yue frowned and said coldly, "Are you looking to die by getting handsy?"

"Hey, do you think I'm really afraid of you? Tonight I won't go home until I'm drunk!" Su Yun declared boldly.

"Well, if you won't go home until you're drunk, I'll wait for you to get drunk and then send you straight to the hospital emergency department." Chang Yue gently adjusted her glasses and said lightly.

……

Xie Yiren drove, slowly cruising through the traffic flow of the imperial capital.

In Hai Cheng and Sheng Cheng, the two often drove around for leisure. Although there weren't many sweet words, companionship itself was the best romance.

This was the first time Xie Yiren had experienced something like this; she didn't know how to comfort Zheng Ren, so she just drove silently. Her speed was moderate and steady, sometimes holding his hand, sometimes shifting gears.

"Yiren, do you think I'd be bored if I stopped doing surgery?" After a while, Zheng Ren suddenly asked.

"No way." Xie Yiren smiled sweetly: "If you were still doing surgery, I'd keep that box of surgical instruments with me. Since today's surgery wasn't used, I'll try to avoid such situations in the future. If you weren't doing surgery, I'd become your lab assistant. Let me tell you, my eyesight is excellent, and I have patience."

Gripping Xie Yiren's hand tighter, Zheng Ren relaxed his body against the seat and slowly closed his eyes.

"Don't overthink it; no matter what sad hurdle, a good night's sleep will fix it." Xie Yiren said.

"Mm." Zheng Ren replied softly.

"Let's go watch the sunrise." Seeing Zheng Ren with his eyes closed, Xie Yiren seemed to have forgotten her earlier words that a good sleep would make everything pass.

"Mm…… I miss Director Pan." Zheng Ren whispered, "Shall we go back and see the director?"

"Sure!" Xie Yiren didn't hesitate, pulled her hand from Zheng Ren's palm, gripped the steering wheel, and instantly accelerated to the speed limit: "There's no plane anyway, we might as well drive back. It'll take a few hours; we'll probably reach Hai Cheng before dawn."

"You've worked hard." Zheng Ren said.

"Pulling all-nighters for surgery is no big deal; driving back to our hometown, what's there to complain about?" Xie Yiren said, heading straight north.

Zheng Ren watched the interplay of lights outside the window, the shifting brightness and shadows slicing space into dazzling fragments, and gradually became lost in thought.

Countless feelings welled up from his heart—sour, sweet, bitter, spicy—endlessly memorable.

Being able to meet Xiao Yi Ren is truly the most fortunate thing, without equal, Zheng Ren thought.

Fortunately, I met you.

Whether wind or rain, having you by my side puts my heart at ease.

Zheng Ren let out a long breath, eyes fixed on the window, not a trace of sleepiness.

The two chatted lightly; seven hours later, as dawn broke, the red Volvo pulled up to the entrance of Haicheng First Hospital's Emergency Department.

"It's been a long time since I've been back; I really miss it." Xie Yiren said softly.

"Mm." Zheng Ren nodded, got out of the car. The two held hands, standing before the Emergency Department building, gazing at this place where they had fought, momentarily bewildered.

"I'm going to look for Chief Chu and the others; I won't keep you waiting for the director." Xie Yiren said with a smile.

Zheng Ren was emotionally unsettled; he went to confide in Director Pan, feeling awkward staying on the sidelines, and she understood, so she had said so early on.

"Are they on duty?"

"Let me ask." Xie Yiren drove back all the way, had no time to chat in the group, and only now took out her phone to say something in the chat.

That sentence was like a small stone, sending out countless ripples.

"They've been doing surgery all night and are still busy." Xie Yiren said.

"……" Zheng Ren actually felt a bit nostalgic for the sound of flat trolley wheels rolling over marble floors, the kind that makes blood pressure spike.

Still doing surgery? So busy.

Zheng Ren took out a white Surgical Instruments box from the trunk, took Xie Yiren's hand, and went straight to the Operating Room on the third floor of Jizhen Da Lou.

Here, Zheng Ren could find it even with his eyes closed.

He pressed the doorbell, the lights came on, and from inside came a sound of surprise and excitement.

The door immediately opened, a figure rushed out and embraced Xie Yiren.
