Chapter 1441: with translation of chapter title
It turns out that's how it is.
The professor's question was also Wu Hang and Wu Zong's question. Zheng Lao Ban was in the pathology department, going through a lot of trouble for half a day, and felt it was completely unnecessary, utterly pointless.
It turns out this place merely serves as a lab; what Zheng Lao Ban really wants to do is take a pathological tissue biopsy in the CT room and examine it on the spot?
Is this an intraoperative frozen section? Wu Hang doesn't really understand Zheng Ren's true purpose.
Chi Zuren's microscope is a teaching microscope, high-end, with three eyepieces.
In other words, while Chi Zuren observes the pathological tissue, two other people can also see the same field of view alongside him.
If Chi Zuren feels like it, he might give an explanation.
That's the advantage of a multi-head microscope.
Wu Hang is also curious, wanting to see just how high the pathology level of Zheng Lao Ban, who has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine, is; therefore he risked being kicked by the director into the intraoperative frozen team, enduring hardship and the danger of waiting for the freeze, and arranged the director's machine.
He even thought that no matter how high a clinical doctor's level is, it wouldn't be stronger than his own.
If I could give Zheng Lao Ban a couple of pointers at that time, and if decades later Zheng Lao Ban wins the Nobel Prize, I could boast with spit flying, saying that back then Zheng Lao Ban's pathology was taught by me!
Although it's all bragging, as long as there's something real to it, saying it won't feel too empty in my heart.
He has a little bit of selfish motive.
Wu Hang saw Zheng Ren sit down and begin to look at that tissue, so he also went to another microscope and started observing Zheng Ren's actions.
Professor Rudolf Wagner doesn't understand pathology, but he was curious about what the Boss was doing, so he took the third eyepiece.
Under the microscope, the chaotic cell tissue was incomprehensible to Professor Rudolf Wagner, who doesn't know cytology.
He could only see the lens constantly moving.
But for Wu Hang, it was an entirely different world.
Because it's not translucent and hasn't undergone post-processing, he can barely discern some characteristics of the cell tissue; even knowing it's a piece of liver cancer tissue, he can only roughly judge, by reverse inference, that some cells 'might' be cancer cells.
The lens froze, a faint light appeared in the field of view; the fluid in the tissue gaps undulated slightly, like a mischievous child stirring a pool of spring water with a branch.
What is Zheng Lao Ban trying to do? Wu Hang's head was full of question marks.
Cells are tiny; is he trying to take a cell? What size of tweezers or forceps would he use?
Clinical microsurgery is only at the millimeter scale, worlds apart from the micrometer-scale diameter of cells.
One millimeter equals a thousand micrometers; millimeter-scale microsurgery is already rarely perfected clinically, let alone micrometer-scale cell tissue.
Wanting to directly take a cell is outright impossible.
"Wu Hang!" an angry voice shouted.
Wu Hang was staring at that beam of light, wondering what Zheng Lao Ban was really up to, unaware that this was the voice he feared most.
The light stirred the fluid in the gaps between cells; as another beam appeared, the fluid in those gaps trembled slightly, and an indescribable force of interaction between the light and the cells emerged.
A single cell, following the light and a slight move of Zheng Ren's finger, was steadily extracted from the pathological tissue.
I go…… there's actually such a divine operation?!
What is Zheng Lao Ban using?! How can he take cell tissue?!
Wu Hang's mind was filled with countless question marks and exclamation points intertwined, astonishment beyond words; in the midst of his astonishment, his right ear hurt.
The sharp pain woke him.
A little old man grabbed Wu Hang's ear, his face furious.
"Chi Zuren, Chi Zuren, you…"
"Wu Hang! Who let you touch my machine!" Chi Zuren asked angrily.
"Slide, fixative, cover slip." Zheng Ren seemed not to notice anyone coming; he focused intently on operating the optical tweezers to take the case's cells, saying lightly.
"Who are you?" Chi Zuren saw the main person, somewhat familiar but very young, looking like a graduate student.
"Director, he's Zheng Lao Ban from the Intervention Department, the Nobel Prize–nominated Zheng Lao Ban." Wu Hang hurriedly explained, even directly bringing up the Nobel Prize as his shield, hoping to defuse Chi Zuren's anger.
"Zheng Lao Ban? Intervention Department?"
"What are you doing in the pathology department?" Chi Zuren asked, carefully glancing at the machine and seeing an attachment on his precious microscope, his anger blazing.
"Director, director, look! Zheng Lao Ban directly took a pathological cell with something unknown." Wu Hang hurriedly explained.
"Impossible." Chi Zuren directly denied Wu Hang's statement, loosening his grip and freeing his large head, saying, "Clinical instruments are all millimeter scale, at most 0.1 millimeter; there's no way to extract millimeter-scale cells."
"I just saw it."
Zheng Ren operated the optical tweezers, seeing that Chi Zuren hadn't brought a slide over yet and hearing someone speak, he left the microscope and looked up.
"Zheng Lao Ban, this is our Director Chi." Wu Hang introduced immediately.
"Hello, Director Chi." Zheng Ren gave a standard fake smile and then said, "Slide."
Wu Hang glanced at Director Chi, saw he wasn't speaking, and quickly placed a slide on the rack.
"Does it need processing?"
"Yes, but I'll do it myself." Zheng Ren smiled, then lowered his head to continue operating.
"Director, take a look." Wu Hang, though reluctant, could only yield the position to Director Chi.
Wasn't it said we were going to the bank to handle some business today? Why did we rush back?
Wu Hang inwardly cursed his bad luck; recalling the scene he had just seen, his heart felt like a kitten scratching, an unbearable mix of sour and itchy.
Director Chi sat down half-believing, half-doubting, first carefully examining the attachment; seeing it hadn't damaged his precious microscope, he then glared at Wu Hang and began observing through the microscope.
After 23 seconds, Director Chi's body froze.
After 1 minute 2 seconds, his hand gripped the base of his precious microscope tightly, joints emitting crackling sounds like rotten wood being eaten by termites, ready to snap and turn to dust at any moment.
At 3 minutes 13 seconds, Director Chi had been quietly watching Zheng Ren extract live pathological cells, engrossed.
At 22 minutes 23 seconds, Zheng Ren finally lifted his head and moved his neck a bit.
"Zheng Lao Ban, are you done?" Wu Hang asked.
"Mm." Zheng Ren said, "The sampling is complete; next we can just observe under the microscope."
Wu Hang glanced at Director Chi, seeing his eyes glued tightly to the microscope lens, as if his whole body wanted to burrow into it.
What's going on?
"Boss, what operation are you doing? After looking for a long time, my heart feels this noisy." Professor Rudolf Wagner said with a worried, bitter expression.
"Microscopic operation, maybe your brain's vestibular nerve can't take it. Stop looking, it has nothing to do with the intervention." Zheng Ren said with a smile.
