Chapter 1562

~6 min read 1,101 words

"This is the engineer sent by the United States company contacted by Miss Zou—Mr. Nuoyier." Lin JiaoJiao didn't notice anything odd, and introduced him to Zheng Ren.

Zheng Ren carefully observed Nuoyier's system panel, which displayed a diagnosis he could not believe.

He was dumbfounded for a full five seconds, Zheng Ren merely stared at Nuoyier.

As time passed, the atmosphere became inexplicably awkward and strange.

Everyone else looked at Zheng Ren, wondering why this Boss Zheng stared at engineer Nuoyier without blinking.

"Boss? Are you stupid?" Su Yun asked.

Zheng Ren still didn't speak, just stared at Nuoyier, as if he had seen some unknown creature.

"Boss, could it be some long-lost relative of yours? Don't pull these melodramatic tricks." Su Yun's contemptuous tone reached Zheng Ren's ears.

Lin JiaoJiao also felt strange, but she couldn't joke as recklessly as Su Yun.

"Look at his eyes." Zheng Ren suddenly said softly.

Hearing Zheng Ren start to speak, Lin JiaoJiao breathed a sigh of relief. In that instant, countless thoughts raced through Lin JiaoJiao's mind; what she feared most was Boss Zheng disliking the community hospital she had painstakingly built.

"Mr. Nuoyier, I've brought Boss Zheng." Lin JiaoJiao said with a smile.

The engineer slightly lifted his head and stared directly at Zheng Ren and the others.

Nuòyī'ěr's eyes were milky white, the right pupil slightly paler, looking somewhat strange. At the instant he lifted his head, his hand moved involuntarily, like a wild pianist tuning the keys.

It seemed to have a strange sense of harmony.

He twitched the corner of his mouth slightly, spoke with an arrogant tone in American English: "Something so precise, I think you guys have no use for it."

Nuòyī'ěr's speech sounded somewhat slurred, as if mixed with some strange regional accent. But this kind of slurred accent was especially faint; without careful discernment, one could hardly tell.

"Are you an immigrant German to the United States?" Professor Rudolf Wagner suddenly asked.

Nuòyī'ěr saw the professor, and his expression softened somewhat.

"I am Rudolf Wagner from Heidelberg University." the professor introduced himself.

"I am......"

"Boss, his eyes have a problem." Su Yun said: "Both eyes are gazing leftward, and then…… I'm going!"

Nuòyī'ěr's upper facial muscles were fine; closing his eyes, raising his brows, and frowning were all normal.

The forehead wrinkles were equal in depth to the opposite side, and the eyebrow height and palpebral fissure size were the same as on the other side.

However, the muscles of his lower face were abnormal; at a moment when he was not speaking, the left nasolabial groove became shallower, the corner of his mouth drooped, and when showing his teeth, the corner of his mouth deviated to the right.

This indicates paralysis of the buccinator, the mouth-opening muscles, the orbicularis oris, and related muscle groups.

"Central facial palsy? A stroke?" Su Yun asked in astonishment.

Zheng Ren said nothing, striding toward Nuòyī'ěr.

"Mr. Nuòyī'ěr, where do you feel uncomfortable?" Zheng Ren asked.

"Huh?" Nuòyī'ěr was taken aback hearing Zheng Ren speak fluent American English with a slight German accent.

This accent was almost identical to his own, not standard English, nor the American English spoken in Houston.

"Yes, what's wrong?" he replied instinctively.

"I notice your mouth corner keeps twitching; I think you must be uncomfortable somewhere." Zheng Ren asked.

"Are you provoking me?" Nuòyī'ěr angrily said, "I have no problems at all; my hands are dexterous like an elf's. Even with my toes I could fix this machine. You damned doctors, I will never go to a hospital in my lifetime!"

"No, no, Mr. Nuòyī'ěr." Zheng Ren said: "I suspect you have an acute cerebral infarction, still in the early stage; go to the hospital immediately for examination, and I can perform a thrombectomy on you."

Nuòyī'ěr also felt something was off, but hearing Zheng Ren speak in the same accent as himself, his eyes filled with wariness.

"For a stroke, the earlier the thrombectomy the better; your condition just occurred, everything is still salvageable." Zheng Ren's attitude was somewhat cautious, and Su Yun found it very strange.

Although it was only a hint, no one else nearby noticed it, but Su Yun caught it.

This is definitely not the boss's character setting!

"No!" Nuòyī'ěr angrily said, "I have no problems at all, as strong as a Texas wild buffalo!"

Saying this, he struck his chest with his hand, making a "thump-thump-thump" sound.

Zheng Ren did not continue persuading, but looked at Nuòyī'ěr with a strange gaze.

Lin JiaoJiao had interacted with Nuòyī'ěr before, knowing his work ability was strong; directing others to work with confidence. Under his urging, a project that should have taken two days was more than half completed in a single morning.

Although Nuòyī'ěr's mouth corner occasionally twitched, it seemed not to hinder anything. Since asking about these private matters was impolite and did not affect work, Lin JiaoJiao also didn't bother.

In Lin JiaoJiao's view, these were trivial matters; what's wrong with Boss Zheng?

Nuòyī'ěr unhappily said: "I went to Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center for a checkup; the doctor's diagnosis was already clear, saying there was a slight problem with the retina, nothing much can be done."

"Diabetes?" Zheng Ren asked.

"No! Absolutely not!" Nuòyī'ěr screamed like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

"Good heavens, you must be willing to drink beer. But in a place like Houston, there definitely isn't the pure Munich beer!" Professor Rudolf Wagner instantly understood what had happened, waved his hands, and spoke in German.

"Yes, Mr. Rudolf. Damned Texas, damned Houston, damned cowboys!" Nuòyī'ěr angrily cursed: "That beer isn't pure at all, yet its malt sugar content is high. Normally drinking two liters would make me happy, but in Texas I need three liters! Fortunately, I'm about to retire, and soon I'll be back in Munich."

"I've been to Houston once, and I never want to go back." The professor laughed heartily, saying: "Old buddy, if you have time to return to Heidelberg, I'll buy you our beer."

"Boss, these are typical stroke symptoms; should we just knock him out and drag him back for surgery?" Su Yun joked.

Zheng Ren slightly shook his head, pondering something, appearing absent-minded.

Professor Rudolf Wagner was chatting with Nuòyī'ěr; they were old acquaintances meeting in a foreign land, and they quickly got into a lively conversation.

Although Nuòyī'ěr appeared somewhat stubborn and arrogant, upon hearing the professor say that the young doctor was his boss, he was not overly surprised.

"Mr. Nuòyī'ěr, when did your mouth corner start twitching?" Zheng Ren suddenly interjected.
