Chapter 1684: 1627 Medical Records Meaningless (Alliance Leader Bright Sunshine Rain Bonus Chapter 4)

~7 min read 1,368 words

Soon, the test results came back, and the president of Capital Medical University, Zhang, led a team to pick up the students.

It was a false alarm, which is certainly better than actual life-and-death separation.

Xie Yiren wanted to come, but Zheng Ren said he was going to the autopsy, so Xie Yiren straightforwardly refused to accompany him.

Wanting to perform surgery, to heal and save lives, in Xie Yiren's view is a hobby; but an autopsy is something else entirely.

What's there to see in a cold corpse?

Zheng Ren finally had some free time these two days, chatting with Xiao Yi Ren on WeChat for long stretches. Although they hadn't met in person, they talked more than usual.

Zhou Chun Yong contacted the hepatobiliary side of Capital Medical University, asking them to bring the cadaver teacher's specimens to find him, while he drove Zheng Ren and Su Yun straight to the hepatobiliary anatomy research room of Capital Medical University.

Zhou Chun Yong was unfamiliar with autopsies and had no interest in them, but he genuinely dared not let Zheng Lao Ban go—this guy had too many things going on, and if he let him slip away, he'd lose track of him.

Those department heads from out of town all had a pile of things at home; after staying a few days they were practically screaming from frustration. If they still couldn't start classes, Zhou Chun Yong feared he wouldn't be able to keep them under control.

"Boss, what's wrong with the deceased?" Su Yun asked in the car.

"It's said to be a head injury, not serious, but the CT shows extensive cerebral parenchyma congestion and edema." Zheng Ren said.

An autopsy's medical history certainly won't be as detailed as in the emergency department; being able to mention a prior CT is already quite detailed. After all, it's just a phone conversation—one can't say too much.

"Why are you so interested in autopsies?" Su Yun found it strange.

Zheng Ren didn't speak.

He was thinking that for an ordinary patient, as death approaches the system panel turns pale and the system diagnosis gradually fades away.

What would it be like to actually face a corpse for an autopsy?

Probably there would be no diagnosis; everything would have to be judged based on dissection and the medical history—a hard‑on‑hard showdown.

Zheng Ren was never satisfied with the hints from the Big Pig Trotter.

Especially after the incident with Director Pan the last time, plus the 5G project that will definitely be launched within a few years—remote consultation.

Otherwise, if he doesn't improve his technical skills now, he'll end up with the reputation of being all talk and no skill, which wouldn't be fun.

Not to mention a bad reputation, a single misdiagnosis could delay a living person's life.

This isn't something to joke about, so he must take it seriously.

Zheng Ren actually also feels anxious about the future—though slight, it's real.

With expectations set high, and the Big Pig Trotter not offering a "remote consultation" service, he can only quickly raise his own professional level.

Upon arriving at Capital Medical University, the director of the anatomy research office was already waiting at the door.

The municipal bureau's autopsy division is located here; several teachers from the research office stood to the side, all somewhat curious.

Li Zhaosen insisted on waiting for this Zheng Lao Ban; not only were the municipal bureau people curious, but so were those in the anatomy research office. Just who is this person, and how could he make the unruly Li Zhaosen stubbornly delay the autopsy for three days?

Li Zhaosen stood beside the director with an excited expression; when Zheng Ren got out of the car, he ignored the director's feelings and rushed straight up.

"Zheng Lao Ban, do you still remember me?" Li Zhaosen reached out with enthusiasm.

Zheng Ren only saw a mosaic appear before his eyes—how could he possibly know him?

Su Yun had never seen this person either; the last time he taught at Capital Medical University, he stayed in room 912 using a mediastinoscope to resect the thymus.

Facing the unresponsive Zheng Ren, Li Zhaosen seemed not to mind. He still exclaimed enthusiastically, "Your dissection skills are really damn high!"

People who swear upon meeting are rare; speaking pleasantly makes one a person of good temperament; speaking harshly…

Zheng Ren shook hands with him, wearing a standard fake smile on his face.

"Please come in, please come in; I've been wanting to find you these past two days, and it just so happens there's an autopsy today—I'd like to see your skills, Zheng Lao Ban." Li Zhaosen said without any politeness.

This person's lies are so stiff; clearly he invited Zheng Ren three nights ago.

Zheng Ren smiled but said nothing.

This person's speech is full of flaws; Su Yun was about to retort him twice, but Zheng Ren stepped between them, smiled, and asked, "What's the condition of the deceased?"

"He was drinking and eating skewers, got into an argument, and was hit on the left temple with a beer bottle. At the time the deceased had nothing wrong, was taken to a nearby hospital for stitches. But a few days later problems arose, and in the end he couldn't be saved." Li Zhaosen said while walking inside, giving Zheng Ren an introduction.

"Do we have the inpatient CT scans?"

"No, only the medical records."

That's really regrettable; Zheng Ren felt he had made a mistake.

Without the images, his reconstructive ability had nowhere to be applied—his whole set of skills was basically crippled.

Whether he could make an accurate anatomical diagnosis was truly uncertain.

Zheng Ren began to feel a little uneasy.

"Zheng Lao Ban, how long until it's done?" Zhou Chun Yong felt a bit impatient; he only cared about the liver dissection.

"Soon, it's just an autopsy." Zheng Ren thought for a moment and replied.

"Su Yun, did you call Xiao Feng?" Zheng Ren then asked.

"I did; he's already at Building 2." Su Yun said, "Let's look at the deceased and hurry up with the autopsy."

Su Yun heard the simple account and had little interest.

Only giving lectures to students could spark his interest.

The shadowless lamp light fell; that feeling really made every cell in his body excited.

Upon entering the cold autopsy room, Zhou Chun Yong shivered.

The yin energy in here is too heavy; the first thought that came to his mind was…

Actually it's the cold air from the freezer, meant to preserve the corpse; Zhou Chun Yong knew that, yet he still subconsciously turned to folkloric ideas.

On the deceased's left temple there were two lacerations, 2.0 cm and 0.8 cm long, with visible suturing traces. The wound dressing had been removed, making it plainly visible.

Li Zhaosen brought the medical records and handed them to Zheng Ren, then brought a brand‑new white coat; Su Yun was outright ignored.

Su Yun didn't mind either, instead leaning close to Zheng Ren and asking, "Let's look at the CT report."

Zheng Ren flipped to the CT and saw the report read: "Cranial CT scan shows multiple large low‑density areas in the bilateral internal capsules, basal ganglia, etc."

"Something doesn't look right about this." Su Yun muttered quietly.

He wasn't skilled in neurosurgery, so he honestly just muttered a couple of sentences.

"Zheng Lao Ban, put on your clothes," Li Zhaosen said somewhat earnestly.

"Wait a moment, I'll take a look at the medical record," Zheng Ren said with a slight smile, speaking to Li Zhaosen.

"We forensic doctors mainly just need to have work on our hands; whether there's a medical record or not doesn't matter," Li Zhaosen spoke frankly and directly.

Su Yun raised an eyebrow, but still suppressed her temper.

If it were a corpse with a chest ailment, he would have already turned it over.

Neurosurgery sits at the top of the disdain chain among all surgical specialties; ordinary people dare not comment.

Zheng Ren chuckled and said, "Just a few minutes, I'll glance at the medical record."

Seeing Zheng Ren insist, Li Zhaosen didn't say anything, just silently complained about the medical record.
