Chapter 2147: 2073 S‑rank Dispute
Morning surgeries proceeded as usual; Su Yun went to give a lecture, presumably she was very happy there.
Zheng Ren carefully watched Professor Rudolf Wagner's surgery; since his own level had improved again, watching the professor's surgery allowed him to spot some minor operational shortcomings.
Although to others these points were insignificant, after the surgery when Zheng Ren mentioned them, the professor could understand. He enthusiastically stood beside Zheng Ren after each surgery, listening like a student.
Surgeries were completed one after another; the sixth surgery began, and Su Yun rushed back.
Seeing his glowing face, Zheng Ren knew the lecture must have been a great success. For a doctor who could figure things out on his own, understand turbulence, and even perform heart transplant surgery, giving a lecture was nothing.
"Boss, can you not be so serious?" Su Yun sat on the sofa and said, "Take a look; this is the trouble of a rabbit eating the grass beside its burrow."
"Huh?" Zheng Ren was watching the surgery and didn't understand Su Yun's meaning.
"If Xiao Yi Ren weren't here, you could drive around with the other nurses, chatting and laughing—much better than sitting here idly."
Zheng Ren ignored him; he never spoke seriously.
After Su Yun finished speaking, as if knowing her boss wouldn't bother with her, she pulled out her phone.
"Director Lin is looking for you." Su Yun glanced at her WeChat and said, "The promotional material for the intracardiac intervention surgery is ready; it's not urgent, so he left me a message."
"Oh." Zheng Ren replied indifferently.
The surgeries were done; to Zheng Ren everything was already in the past. Promotion might be important, but he felt it was a waste of time.
"What attitude is this?" Su Yun said disdainfully, "How many department heads want to heavily promote their own surgeries but can't produce solid evidence and lack hospital support. Yet you're lucky—Director Lin is rushing to have you do it, and you don't even care."
"Isn't that why you're here?" Zheng Ren answered offhandedly, "The Medical Team's looks are its asset; any publicity work will definitely be handed to you. When you go on TV, you'll outshine all the current internet celebrities."
Early in the morning he saw a strange patient, made a diagnosis, and estimated the condition wouldn't be delayed. Zheng Ren's mood was good, and he became more talkative.
Su Yun, however, became interested, sat up on the sofa, and seriously considered the matter.
Afterward he started contacting Lin Ge via WeChat; a few minutes later Su Yun said, "Boss, Director Lin happens to be hosting a hospital-wide consultation and said he'd come directly to drop off the materials for you to look at."
"A hospital-wide consultation?" Zheng Ren found in Su Yun's words a term that wasn't the main point.
"……" Su Yun blew a breath, her black hair fluttering above her forehead, full of disdain: "Can't you be a bit serious? Director Lin wants to promote the intracardiac intervention surgery—the first case in Asia! Isn't that enough for you to be smug about?"
"Oh, come on. Which department is the hospital-wide consultation for?" Zheng Ren didn't care, his eyes fixed unblinkingly on the surgery as he watched.
Soon, Lin Ge entered wearing a sterile cap, mask, and dark green sterile gown.
He hadn't changed clothes; apparently the hospital-wide consultation was urgent, and he only needed to say a couple of words to Zheng Lao Ban before leaving.
"Zheng Lao Ban, Doctor Su, busy?" Lin Ge became more energetic, completely lacking his former listless demeanor. Although he'd been busy lately, since relying on Zheng Lao Ban his days have become more promising, full of vigor, almost ready for a second spring.
"Director Lin, thanks for making the trip." Zheng Ren looked at him, smiled, then turned back to watch the surgery.
Lin Ge knew Zheng Lao Ban's temperament and didn't mind; he briefly told Zheng Lao Ban about the preparations for the publicity.
Zheng Ren couldn't be bothered to listen to such matters at all, so he just dumped them on Su Yun.
"Director Lin, what's the hospital-wide consultation about?" Seeing Lin Ge in a hurry, Zheng Ren asked casually.
"Alas, it's a surgery done by the Obstetrics Department; the patient's post-op condition isn't good, they've held several hospital-wide consultations, and the patient's situation keeps getting worse."
This is a huge hassle.
Unfortunately Director Ye is out at a meeting, so this side can only leave it to me to handle. A medical dispute judged by the hospital as S‑rank difficulty—others simply aren't qualified to deal with it.
Besides Director Ye, only Lin Ge personally going out would work, but he also has no good solution.
"You're an old hand too—why do you look a bit flustered?" Su Yun asked with a chuckle.
"Well, the matter is rather troublesome." Lin Ge said, "Forget it; I've said enough to trouble you two. Zheng Lao Ban and Doctor Su, just glance at the materials—if there's no problem I'll get back to work."
"Hand the publicity over to Su Yun, Director Lin—tell me what's going on over there." Zheng Ren asked while watching the surgery on the screen.
"A woman in her twenties was found to have a cyst in the right adnexal area; after removal the pathology report showed a teratoma." Lin Ge briefly described, "Post‑op the patient developed pseudo‑intestinal obstruction, urinary frequency, urgency and pain, bilateral hydronephrosis, pleural and peritoneal effusions, reduced heart function, and progressive wasting."
"……" Zheng Ren and Su Yun were both stunned.
It's just a cyst in the adnexal area—how did it cause all this trouble?
If the patient were over eighty, postoperative complications could be explained. Because the surgery's impact altered the immune system, leading to so many problems.
But a woman in her twenties is precisely at the peak of her health.
These complications have appeared, and without a clear diagnosis, that's truly troublesome.
"Was it a laparoscopic procedure?" Zheng Ren asked.
"Mm." Lin Ge nodded, "Zheng Lao Ban, you're busy; I'm going to host the hospital-wide consultation."
Seeing his harried look, Zheng Ren nodded and didn't detain him with further questions.
Over there, presumably a room full of department heads and professors is waiting, just for Lin Ge to arrive so they can slap the table or pass the buck.
After Lin Ge left, Zheng Ren watched the surgery while Su Yun flipped through the publicity documents; both were somewhat absent‑minded.
"Boss, what are you thinking about?"
"Many organs have problems; in your terms, it's definitely a rheumatology‑immunology issue." Zheng Ren said.
"This secret manual you've learned—once you're out there dominating the world, remember me." Su Yun put away the publicity materials, "Director Lin put a lot of heart into it; the materials look like they were rushed out overnight, and he still needs to coordinate with Vice President Yuan and the Women and Children's Hospital side."
"Hmm, whatever." Zheng Ren said, "Go handle it."
"Boss, you can't treat me like a trash can, dumping every odd job on me."
"Or should I go on TV?" Zheng Ren asked, "You come watch the surgery."
Su Yun gave a hehe smile, muttered a few lines—taking advantage and acting cute is okay, but not to excess.
The boss has already raised objections; it's better for me not to speak.
"I don't think it's really a rheumatological‑immunological disease either." Su Yun changed the subject to avoid embarrassment.
"How?"
