Chapter 2539: 2447 Leave Some Room When Doing Things

~7 min read 1,299 words

20 minutes later, Zheng Renhe and Su Yun arrived at the Medical Affairs Dispute Office.

Lin Ge seemed a bit tired, holding an enamel basin and spacing out, not knowing what he was thinking.

"Director Lin, you're really good at bragging!" Su Yun praised as soon as they met.

"Ah? Oh." Lin Ge smiled, "Not entirely bragging; when I was young my physique was still decent. Now that I'm old, the only things I can compare with others are blood sugar, blood lipids, and blood pressure."

"Director Lin, thank you." Zheng Ren thanked sincerely.

"It's nothing, nothing." Lin Ge said politely over and over.

"Boss, I've told you before, living by doing surgery every day and then going home just won't work." Su Yun said disdainfully: "If you don't communicate with people, how do you know what anyone can do? Look at Director Lin—I bet when we were talking he'd already decided to find someone from the City Bureau Technical Section."

"It's better to be a bit more secure, though it's a little embarrassing to have people work overtime at this hour." Lin Ge smiled and indirectly mentioned the difficulty coefficient of doing this.

Zheng Ren had previously considered this from a clinical doctor's perspective; there really wasn't much he could do. Moreover, in his haste he hadn't thought of many things; if they went through normal procedures, calling the police and such, whether various samples could reach the Technical Section and how long it would take were all unknowns.

But Lin Ge took action and resolved the issue in a few hours.

"Director Lin, if I may say, you're still too soft-hearted and lenient." Su Yun retorted habitually: "Why bother persuading her at the end? Someone like her deserves a heavy sentence."

"Boss Zheng, Doctor Su, haven't you eaten yet? Let's grab a bite and chat," Lin Ge asked with a smile.

Zheng Ren's forehead had sweat seeping out.

Lin Ge indeed hadn't eaten; he'd only drunk water. But he and Su Yun, in the monitoring room with the security guards, had already eaten their fill—especially Su Yun, who probably had those skewered kidneys stuffed up to her throat.

"Not yet, Director Lin—what would you like to eat? Let's have a good drink tonight." Su Yun said casually; seeing a hint of embarrassment on Lin Ge's face, she quickly added, "Just take it easy, we're among friends, no need to overdo it."

"Just grab some skewers." Lin Ge laughed, "It's already this late; we need to hurry home. You don't know—I get home late and my wife sniffs every piece of clothing like a drug-sniffing dog. Skewers are good; the strong smell means she won't suspect anything."

"Mm, the barbecue smell is strong, and that woman's perfume just now was also a bit strong. Director Lin, you're far-sighted and thoughtful—I admire you." Su Yun joked irreverently.

Leaving 912, they casually found a barbecue stall at a nearby night market. Su Yun ordered all sorts of things along the way, but only took a few bottles of beer.

The weather gradually cooled; this kind of night-market stall probably won't stay open much longer. After the autumn tiger passes, they'll likely have to retreat indoors. To enjoy the pleasure of sitting street-side at midnight munching skewers, one must wait half a year.

"I just gave her an out, thinking that in everything you shouldn't push people too hard." Lin Ge said.

Having said that, seeing Su Yun's disdainful expression, Lin Ge didn't get angry and smiled: "I haven't experienced this myself; I'm just repeating what an old comrade said."

This was activating gossip mode; Zheng Ren felt at ease, lightly nibbling on a skewer.

"There was a patient whose family was very poor; during treatment the director donated some money and tried to save as much as possible, so they spent little before recovering and being discharged." Lin Ge said, "The patient expressed gratitude, but then problems arose."

"When settling the bill, they argued a few words with the person handling discharge; that person had a big temper and filed a complaint. The complaint receiver was impatient, saying, 'Our hospital treats you this well, and you're complaining about nothing.'"

The words definitely weren't put that way, but the meaning was roughly this, and Zheng Ren understood.

He looked at Lin Ge's slightly graying sideburns, pondering how this 'gossip' would develop afterward.

"The result was that person got fired up from anger and started spouting nonsense. Now that I think about it, it was likely out of shame and anger, speaking without restraint."

"What happened next?" Su Yun asked.

"Afterward they brought it up to the department head; the patient, to show the hospital had treated him poorly and to make his theory hold, also filed a complaint against the department head."

……

Zheng Ren was speechless and shook his head.

"Later, the department head was summoned to the Medical Affairs Dispute Office, pointing at his nose and shouting, 'What the hell have I done to you? I gave you money for treatment, and you turn around and complain about me?!'"

"That's the gist of it."

"The patient was also worked up, plus shame and anger, and had a heart attack. Fortunately it happened in the hospital; if it had been elsewhere…… the outcome would turn right into wrong, and finally the department head received a punishment." Lin Ge said leisurely, talking about this old sesame and millet matter.

"So let's get the facts straight and hand things over to whoever the procedure says. Speaking of today's matter, the video surveillance is there; if that woman kneels before me, a table blocks it, so my leg and her head wouldn't be in the camera's view. And if I then claim I forced her to do something, this couldn't be explained."

"Hahaha, Director Lin, you're being overly cautious." Su Yun lifted her beer bottle and laughed loudly.

"This is still a small matter; if she were too scared, she could just open the window and jump from the Dispute Office. I've said the Dispute Office should be moved to the first floor to eliminate all hidden dangers, but I've proposed it several times and it never passed."

"Give people a way out in everything; we're doctors, not police or judges, so there's no need to drive anyone to desperation." Lin Ge explained his reasoning in a measured tone.

Zheng Ren suddenly felt that Lin Ge made sense.

Leave a little leeway in everything; if it truly comes to a fight to the death, the final outcome really is unknown.

Does the possibility Lin Ge mentioned not exist? It definitely does!

"I've long said each department should install 360-degree blind-spot-free surveillance, but the hospital never comes up with the funds." Lin Ge continued to nag.

The more Su Yun thought about the scene Lin Ge just described, the more interesting she found it, and she began discussing feasibility and emergency response plans with Lin Ge.

Barbecue is eaten quickly; if you're slow it gets cold.

Lin Ge finished eating and chuckled, "Boss Zheng, Doctor Su, let me ask something."

"Nobel Prize, fifty-fifty." Su Yun laughed.

"All right, all right." Lin Ge said, "It's the National Day holiday now; I guess after work this will be settled soon. Boss Zheng, if you get a call, definitely don't hang up thinking it's a nuisance."

"No way, we've waited this long. Those gossip rumors say Nobel laureates mistake the notification call for a nuisance and act pretentiously—no way! We'll surely be on the alert early, ears perked, so you can relax, Director Lin." Su Yun said.

"Then let me know early, and I'll be happy too."

"Okay!" Su Yun replied cheerfully.

"Boss Zheng? You're free tonight, aren't you?" A woman's voice came from behind Zheng Ren.
