2538.2442 A Mother Willing to Show Off Her Child (Alliance Leader Wang Li Ping, extra chapter 4)

"Zheng Lao Ban, Yun Ge'er, do you two consider whether the young patient has a problem with the pyloric closure function, or is it something else?" Zhou Litao asked.

Zheng Ren and Su Yun shook their heads at the same time, and Su Yun said, "Manager Zhou, we need meticulous observation points; you're all clumsy, you really should serve another year as Inpatient Chief."

Zhou Litao wore a bitter expression, not knowing what to say.

Even if someone points at his nose and scolds him, as long as they don't curse his mother, Zhou Litao can tolerate it; he simply does not want to serve another year as Inpatient Chief.

"Manager Zhou, we just observed that the patient's vomitus is feces and a small amount of gastric fluid, with no sign of bile reflux," Zheng Ren briefly explained.

Zheng Ren stopped speaking here, as if he had something he couldn't figure out, and Su Yun was the same. Seeing their expressions, Zhou Litao hesitated a bit, then softly asked Su Yun, "Yun Ge'er, what are you and Zheng Lao Ban thinking about?"

"I'm pondering the patient's feces from just now vomiting; I guess the boss is thinking about it too." Su Yun exhaled, helplessly saying, "What is this all about? What time is it? If I keep thinking, I won't even get dinner."

Zhou Litao stared for a moment, then rushed out, seeing that the nurse had already quickly cleaned up the patient's vomitus from just now; he could only recall from memory the shape of the vomitus he had seen in the panic.

That stuff carries a foul smell—what's there to look at? Although fecal reflux is uncommon, we could also consider that the patient is young and the pyloric closure is incomplete. Combined with irritation from acute gastroenteritis, some reflux could be explained.

In the end, we still have to rely on examination.

Zhou Litao returned to the office and turned on the computer.

Under Zheng Lao Ban's gaze, he opened the imaging system and called the Radiology Department, urging them to upload the images promptly after the examination.

For the urgent needs of the Emergency Department, as long as conditions allow, no doctor will delay.

In the office, Zheng Ren and Su Yun were thinking about something; especially Su Yun, who is usually talkative, was unusually quiet today. He didn't play with his phone, nor did he keep complaining about this and that; instead, his eyes gazed at the yellowing leaves outside the window, his expression focused.

Zheng Ren's eyes fixed on the screen, while Zhou Litao kept refreshing in an awkward posture; after nearly ten minutes, the images were finally uploaded.

Opening them immediately, Zhou Litao saw the imaging data. The upright abdominal flat film showed no signs of intestinal obstruction……

Zhou Litao immediately became confused.

"There's nothing to see; it can't be intestinal obstruction." Su Yun said, "When I saw his mother holding him, her hand was on his belly; I estimate the child's abdomen isn't distended."

His eyes were on the leaves outside the window; he didn't even look at the imaging data.

Zheng Ren, however, picked up the mouse, zooming in and out of the images, examining them repeatedly for several minutes.

Silence still prevailed in the consultation room; Zhou Litao endured for a few minutes, then finally couldn't hold back and asked, "Zheng Lao Ban, Yun Ge'er, what are you considering?"

"Let's do a gastroscopy to examine the stomach wall." Zheng Ren said calmly.

"It's meaningless; if it were up to me, I'd just go to the patient's home to take a look."

"That would be illegal, unlike last time when we went to Cui Heming's company to check the situation." Zheng Ren shook his head, "If we got caught, that would be the biggest scandal."

"Tch, you're really cold-hearted." Su Yun said disdainfully.

What the two of them said was a jumble; Zhou Litao still couldn't understand a single sentence.

Actually, it's not that he didn't understand; he knew what each sentence meant, but put together he completely failed to grasp what Zheng Lao Ban and Yun Ge'er intended to do.

"First, let's do a gastroscopy to see if the stomach wall has any chronic mucosal changes, such as ulcers, congestion, edema, erosion, etc." Zheng Ren said.

"Okay." Zhou Litao nodded, then went out to prepare to explain the condition to the patient's mother.

"Boss, you say it's possible?"

"Yes." Zheng Ren said, "Otherwise there's no way to explain it."

"I never expected we'd actually encounter this." Su Yun frowned and said, "Could it be some rare disease?"

"The imaging doesn't support it; come take a look. Not even glancing at the images is too unrigorous." Zheng Ren said.

"I'm afraid that after seeing the images I'll lose faith in this world."

"The person who says I'm like an ostrich is you, and the person who thinks they'll lose faith in the world is also you." Zheng Ren said, "Regardless of whether you know it or not, this kind of thing will always happen. Under the sun there is nothing new; it happened before, it happens now, and it will happen in the future. Even if humanity evolves into conscious entities, I'd expect this to still occur."

"Boss, you're so long-winded." Su Yun exhaled, the black hair in front of his forehead fluttered, and he felt more spirited.

He came to the computer, took the mouse from Zheng Ren's hand, and began to view the images.

After examining the abdominal cavity from top to bottom, Su Yun smiled slightly and said, "Proxy Munchausen Syndrome—what else could explain this? Now the important thing is evidence and judicial intervention."

"If we call the police before we've figured things out, and it turns out to be a mistake, it'll be really embarrassing." Zheng Ren shook his head and said calmly.

"You're still considering a pyloric issue? We're not ruling out incomplete pyloric closure in the patient."

"What about bile?"

"The bile has mostly been used up in previous vomiting; we can only see feces with reflux." Zheng Ren said, "Although we can't fully explain it, the examination still needs to be done."

"Boss, last time in Hai Cheng I saw you break open a door quickly; do you often use half a pack of instant noodles to pick a residential complex's lock?" Su Yun asked with a chuckle.

"I've never done that." Zheng Ren said, "I don't advise you to go to the patient's home to look; that would be breaking and entering, which is illegal."

"This is the simplest."

"That also won't do. When Manager Zhou comes back, we'll ask him to see if there are any clues."

The two fell silent again.

Proxy Munchausen Syndrome is a condition where one fabricates illness in another, especially in children, juniors, or siblings who need care, leading to hospitalization for treatment.

Strictly speaking, it belongs to the performative personality type; they are merely willing to act out caring for others.

After observing the patient's vomiting of feces, Zheng Ren and Su Yun considered related diseases, but neither could diagnose the patient according to diagnostic criteria. Combined with Zhou Litao's medical history, they independently thought of Proxy Munchausen Syndrome.

After a few minutes, Zhou Litao returned.

"Manager Zhou, do you have any knowledge about the patient's mother?" Su Yun asked.

"Uh..." Zhou Litao hesitated, then said, "I know a little, but not much. Her husband is a sailor, working overseas long-term. He comes back twice a year; usually he's not at home."

"That's not what I asked; what are you thinking?" Su Yun said, "Does she have any social media accounts? WeChat Moments, Weibo, etc."

"She has them." Zhou Litao said, "But… I didn't notice anything unusual; she's just willing to show off her child."
