Chapter 2673: 2575.2476 Tonic Water's Pot
2575.2476 Tonic Water's Pot
Su Yun walked home doubtfully, Chang Yue asked: "You still haven't figured it out?"
"It's not appendicitis, how could it be that easy to figure out." Su Yun said impatiently: "If seeing a patient were that simple, why would we need hospitals?"
"Tch, just say your skills are lacking. I usually find Chief Zheng's examinations simple; basically just looking at the images is enough. For truly serious cases, just looking at the patient is enough."
"He's not human, how can anyone compare to him? Look, even people like him have collapsed."
"Really strange, I always feel I was overexcited yesterday." Chang Yue said, "Chief Zheng may not speak, but he actually cares a lot about the Nobel Prize."
"You figured it out again?" Su Yun said contemptuously.
"That Zhao Wenhua bastard—who wouldn't want to crush him? Chief Zheng didn't do that; instead he accepted his defection. If it weren't for the Nobel Prize, could he have done that?"
"That's just for show; people like him are fine, it makes him look magnanimous."
"Nobody's watching anyway."
"The boss acts arrogantly outside; after surgery, the hospital leadership invites him to eat to build connections, but he doesn't go." Su Yun said, "Who knows what trouble might arise. That guy openly acts like a surgery‑only dog with low EQ; nobody should blame him."
"He naturally has low EQ." Chang Yue said.
"He just can't be bothered with all that nonsense. People, in a lifetime, being good at one or two things is enough; wanting everything ends up with nothing."
"That sounds really nice."
"You haven't noticed his luck is skyrocketing?" Su Yun said, "Let's not talk about anything else, just the Nobel Prize. I previously thought the chance was almost zero—those old fogies clinging to so‑called tradition, with dark forces behind them. I never expected the boss to go on a mission, spout off about lead poisoning out of nowhere, and pull the Bruhl Family's forces over." Su Yun recalled the fragments of that mission to the Alps, and even now it still feels unbelievable.
"With that luck, even an idiot could win a Nobel Prize." He added.
"Hmm, someone like you who plays on the phone all day could also get a Nobel Prize, though it'd be third place. I think your luck isn't bad either, you're pretty stupid." Chang Yue adjusted his glasses and said.
"Can't we speak properly about something good? Tell me, how much work have I done for this lousy project."
"What you said—the main work was that mission, where Chief Zheng spouted nonsense and diagnosed lead poisoning." Chang Yue retorted.
"Talking with you gets nowhere, so I'm curious—do you always communicate with patients' families like this?"
"Patients' families are easier to talk to than you—just flash a smile. Look at you, when have you ever spoken properly."
The two talked as they headed home.
"Yi Ren called, saying Chief Zheng is sweating, soaked through, and needs clothes brought." Chang Yue said.
"No rush, I'll calm down and think about it." Su Yun stood at the doorway, eyes on the still‑uncleared table, unconsciously rubbing Heizi.
Last night we drank quite a bit, and the appetizers on the coffee table haven't been cleared.
"What did we buy yesterday? Let's check." Su Yun frowned and said.
"Roasted peanuts from a hanging furnace, thirty skewers of kidneys, thirty tendons, thirty beef skewers, thirty lamb skewers…" Chang Yue began to recite; yesterday the two of us carried back a pile of things, trying to remember each item, which is really hard.
At the end, Chang Yue walked to the coffee table and checked them off one by one.
"Nothing special, just the usual stuff we eat." Chang Yue said, "Yesterday you wanted hairy eggs, but I didn't agree."
"Pack up the rest."
"You're taking it for testing?"
"Well, who knows if it's the ingredients. Although the chance is small, …" As he spoke, Su Yun paused, staring blankly at the coffee table.
"What's wrong with you?"
"Don't speak—I just had a thought and you interrupted it." Su Yun frowned.
"Can't you have some sense? If you can't remember, you can't remember—no need to blame others." Chang Yue said disparagingly, "Your habit of pretending to be hit is especially bad."
"I…"
"What 'you'!"
Chang Yue said, starting to tidy the coffee table and organize the things on it.
Su Yun just stared blankly; he seemed to have thought of something, but upon closer look it felt like nothing. That vague notion kept swirling in his mind; he dared not move, fearing that any motion would scare it away.
But just standing there like that is useless—if he can't remember, he still can't remember.
Su Yun watched Chang Yue gather up the remaining meat skewers, also picking up the sticks. The sticks still had some food residue; if sent for testing, they might reveal something.
When Chang Yue began clearing the wine glasses, Su Yun suddenly had an epiphany.
"I'm going!" Su Yun shouted.
"What hysteria are you making?" Chang Yue turned back unhappily and glared at him.
"I know what's going on!" Su Yun exclaimed excitedly, waving his arms, "Leave the gathered stuff for now, I…"
He said that, picked up his phone, and called the Emergency Department.
"Call Manager Tang."
"This is Su Yun."
"Hurry up, don't keep saying 'Yun Ge'er, Yun Ge'er,' I'm in a rush." Su Yun's temper was a bit bad; he was anxious as if his house were on fire.
Soon, a voice came from the other end of the line.
Su Yun directly cut off Tang Haitao's words, anxiously asking: "Can the hospital do a quinine‑dependency antibody test?"
"No problem, as long as it can be done. I'll contact Director Lin to have the lab people do it. Wait for notice on your end; if needed, send the blood draw directly."
After saying that, Su Yun hung up and started entering Lin Ge's phone number to call him.
"What's going on?" Chang Yue asked doubtfully.
"It's the tonic water—the problem with the tonic water used to adjust cocktails." Su Yun, hearing the phone ring, spoke urgently: "Why isn't he picking up?"
"It's not even dawn yet; Director Lin is old." Chang Yue casually remarked, seeming to ponder other things.
"Tonic water? Isn't it just soda water with a bit of fruit juice? How could it cause liver and kidney failure?"
The phone rang once; Lin Ge hadn't answered yet, and Su Yun flew into a rage.
"Stay quiet, just find the cause—why rush?" Chang Yue scolded.
"He has no sense of emergency or rescue at all."
"Tonic Water is just soda, isn't it? What's in it?" Chang Yue asked.
"Don't you have any common sense? Your Tonic Water is just soda." Su Yun waved their hand impatiently.
"Speak properly." Chang Yue said coldly.
Su Yun glanced at her, then called Lin Ge for the second time, explaining: "Besides soda water, sugar, and fruit extracts, Tonic Water also contains quinine."
"Boss looks like that; one glance and you know it's quinine poisoning."
