Chapter 2777: with translation of chapter title
Returning to Di Du, life was as usual, plain as water yet warm and sweet.
Xiao Shitou recovered quickly after the surgery; Zheng Ren visited him twice a day, morning and evening, just like normal rounds.
As Xiao Shitou gradually recovered, the trip to Europe was also put on the agenda.
Zheng Ren quietly waited for Xiao Shitou's body to be able to withstand a long-distance flight, because his body had been so weak before that a pressure change during takeoff or landing could possibly lead to death.
……
One day, Zheng Ren sat at the console watching Lin Yuan perform surgery when his phone suddenly buzzed.
It was a WeChat notification; Zheng Ren instinctively glanced at Xiao Yi Ren. Yi Ren was intently waiting for the airtight lead door to open, fully focused on watching the surgery inside through the lead glass.
As long as it wasn't a message from Yi Ren, and he was still sitting in the operating room with nothing urgent, Zheng Ren thought to himself.
After a few minutes, Su Yun's call came through.
"Watching the surgery."
"Lin Yuan's skill is average; I still have a couple more things to say."
"Huh? Manager Tang resigned?!"
Zheng Ren exclaimed in surprise.
"But we have to wait until the surgery is over."
After hanging up, Zheng Ren watched the surgery, quietly pondering the matter of Emergency Department Manager Tang Haitao's resignation.
Soon, Su Yun changed clothes and walked into the operating room.
"Boss, Manager Zhou is miserable, being demoted back to Inpatient Chief again." Su Yun said gloated.
"Why are you so happy?"
"Not happy, just can't help wondering if this guy will be an Inpatient Chief for life." Su Yun said with a laugh.
"Why did Manager Tang resign?"
"Boss, you've been an Inpatient Chief yourself—how could you not know?" Su Yun said, looking at Zheng Ren's back, "Manager Tang got married early, has kids, and can't go home for a year—do you think his wife and kids would be willing? I heard Manager Tang's son was hospitalized sick, and he cried heartbroken, saying he hadn't taken good care of his child."
"He resigned as soon as he came back?"
"Yeah, he was very decisive and straightforward, without even lining up another job. He said he's still at home looking after the child, and that he'll look for a private hospital after the child gets better." Su Yun said, "Wherever you work, it's still work—Manager Tang's ability is decent; even going to a pet hospital would be better than being an Inpatient Chief."
Zheng Ren couldn't understand why Su Yun harbored such deep resentment toward the Inpatient Chief position.
But what he said is also true—being an Inpatient Chief is a grueling job unless it's for promotion.
Being single is still okay, but once you have a family and kids, being an Inpatient Chief is truly deadly.
"Manager Zhou has gone back to being an Inpatient Chief—how's his mood?"
"Well, the only person qualified who's single is him—who else would we ask?" Su Yun laughed, "He doesn't even have a girlfriend—what kind of life is that?"
"Let's find time to visit Manager Zhou." Zheng Ren had spent more time with Zhou Litao, so he felt somewhat familiar and close.
"Really? Or else I'd say you're just cold-blooded." Su Yun laughed, "Manager Zhou is also very troubled; I heard from the Emergency Department staff that he's always frowning, never showing a smile."
"Wait a bit, no rush." Zheng Ren said, "After checking on Xiao Shitou post-op, we'll go."
Surgeries were done one after another; with Gao Shaojie's assistance, Lin Yuan's surgical speed was fairly average. Although it couldn't compare to Gao Shaojie's, Zheng Ren was already quite satisfied.
As the fifth surgery was about to begin, the circulating nurse received a call, quickly told Xie Yiren a sentence, and rushed out. Walking too fast, she almost bumped into Director Kong who had just entered.
She didn't even have time to apologize; the circulating nurse hurried out with an anxious expression.
"What's going on?" Director Kong said unhappily, looking at the circulating nurse's retreating back, "So careless."
"Older Sister Gao said her husband fell ill, so she went to the Emergency Department to check." Xie Yiren replied.
"Huh? He's sick?"
"They said he had vomiting and diarrhea; his workplace called, and that side had already sent him to the Emergency Department." Xie Yiren said.
Director Kong didn't mind either, patting Zheng Ren on the shoulder and gesturing for him to sit, smiling as he said, "Boss Zheng, did the flying knife go smoothly this time?"
"Flying knife?" Zheng Ren blinked, then immediately realized it referred to his weekend trip to Yangcheng.
"That counts as a flying knife," Zheng Ren scratched his head and said, "It went fairly smoothly."
"I heard the director from the South Side say you did an anesthesia case at the Medical University Affiliated Hospital in Tiannan?" Director Kong asked with a grin, looking at Zheng Ren.
"A friend wouldn't let me leave, and since I had nothing else to do, I just watched a surgery. It wasn't helping; it was just learning." Zheng Ren quickly explained.
"Not bad." Director Kong didn't bother reminding Zheng Ren to be careful this time; he just said it plainly.
Zheng Ren didn't know what Director Kong meant, and he felt a bit puzzled.
"Director, are the surgeries on your side done?" Su Yun asked.
"Yeah, just two liver cancer cases today, and they're finished." Director Kong said, "You go about your business, Boss Zheng."
"Director, just tell me if there's anything; otherwise I'll get anxious." Zheng Ren glanced at the surgery image, which was currently undergoing puncture, didn't need to look at it for now, and hurriedly asked.
"Oh, not a big deal either; the Women and Children's Hospital asked me to inquire whether those two girls plan to stay in Hai Cheng all the time, or if they have other plans." Director Kong asked.
"Huh? What does the Women and Children's Hospital want to do?" Zheng Ren found it strange.
"Having two anesthesiologists in surgery is…… quite rare; you've only done it once before. Conjoined twin heart separation surgery is world-leading, so I guess they want to take those two girls on to specialize in this kind of anesthesia." Director Kong said leisurely.
"Oh, no problem, I'll ask them later." Zheng Ren didn't think much of it.
"Director, what do you think?" Su Yun asked.
"Me?" Director Kong laughed, "I don't have any opinion; I saw those two kids when I was in Hai Cheng, and they were fine."
Seeing Director Kong not speak, yet seeming as if he wanted to say something, Zheng Ren felt doubtful.
At this point Lin Yuan had already begun the super-selective procedure; Zheng Ren told Director Kong, then focused intently on watching the surgery.
Director Kong wasn't in a hurry either, chatting leisurely with Su Yun.
The TIPS surgery was now on track; Lin Yuan had practiced who knows how many times at home, becoming very skilled. In under 30 minutes, the surgery was already done.
The airtight lead door slowly opened, and Xie Yiren entered at First Time, ready to assist with bandaging and moving the patient.
"Zheng Lao Ban, change your clothes; I have something to discuss with you." Director Kong said as he stood up.
Zheng Ren had already guessed something might be up; Director Kong seldom seeks him out during surgery to talk. Today he's refusing to leave, likely because Old Liu's matter has some leads.
"Okay." Zheng Ren stood up, just about to get ready to leave, when the desk phone on the console rang.
"Hello?" Zheng Ren picked up the phone.
"Huh? Gao Jie, don't rush, speak slowly."
