Chapter 2801: 2698 Killer Maniac
The dagger fell, and fresh blood spurted out.
Gao Shaojie felt his vision blur a little; he narrowed his eyes, trying to steady his hand as much as possible. After all, it wasn't a scalpel, just an ordinary kitchen knife; its sharpness was already an issue, and if his hand shook, he couldn't operate it.
He exerted force, feeling a sense of emptiness from the knife tip. Although he had never actually performed the procedure, he still understood this sensation.
This meant the knife tip had entered the airway!
Blood flooding the respiratory tract would likewise cause the patient to suffocate to death, Gao Shaojie thought.
Yet he felt no hesitation; even though he had never performed a tracheotomy, he was highly skilled at deep venous puncture and arterial puncture, so he wouldn't faint at the sight of blood.
"Cut open!"
Seeing white foam mixed with fresh blood gush out, Gao Shaojie immediately shouted loudly.
His voice was a little hoarse, but his hand no longer shook.
"Insert the suction tube, draw out the secretions and blood." Zheng Lao Ban said.
Zheng Ren spoke to Gao Shaojie without room for negotiation, his voice stern and low, issuing rescue orders amidst the shadow of death that enveloped the desperate situation.
Gao Shaojie hesitated not; he set the knife aside, then inserted the suction tube into the incision just made.
The blood-tinged white foam was sucked out, one gulp, two...
Soon Gao Shaojie felt resistance in the girl's airway—she was breathing! After estimating how long she had gone without breathing, he thought it should be fine!
As long as the airway stays clear, there should be no risk of cerebral hypoxia.
Blood streamed from Zhong Siyang's fair neck; gradually she began to convulse. Especially with each breath, her whole body jerked violently and urgently, as if every gulp of air were precious.
Rescue successful! Feeling the neighbor girl's convulsions, Gao Shaojie felt some joy. But Zhong Siyang's unconscious spasms and life-saving movements gave him considerable trouble.
The suction tube was merely the flimsy, fragile sort given with takeaway drinks; as Zhong Siyang thrashed, it began to twist, making the action of drawing out respiratory secretions awkward.
Gao Shaojie had no choice; he grabbed her right arm with his left hand, placed his right knee against her left elbow, held the tube in his right hand, and sucked and blew alternately, barely maintaining the neighbor girl's fragile breathing.
Under such crude conditions, neither Gao Shaojie nor Zheng Lao Ban on the other end of the video could do anything.
Eyebrows on fire, yet only worrying about the immediate.
Now there's no point worrying about infection or tetanus; those complications concern the living, the dead won't be infected.
Meanwhile, a man peered cautiously through the peephole behind Gao Shaojie.
"Honey, have you called?" he said, his legs trembling, voice kept extremely low.
The woman behind him raised her phone, indicating she was calling, then went back to the room and explained the situation to 110.
The man stared in horror—this was an outright murder and dismemberment before his eyes, and it seemed they were even eating human flesh...
He lacked the courage to rush out and save that "poor" girl; even dialing the police required him to muster his bravery.
Ordinary people only see bloody scenes on TV; who could witness all this firsthand!
Outside, that killer maniac grew ever more outrageous, grabbing the girl's hand and lunging to tear and bite.
The man's mind even conjured an image—a full‑moon night, a werewolf beginning to transform, savagely ripping and tearing at nearby living people.
Could it be that the legendary zombie virus had finally broken out? The more he thought, the more fearful and desperate he became, to the point he didn't even go to the kitchen to fetch a knife for self‑defense.
Watching the killer maniac's back, continually bowing his head, each time he turned his head sideways and faintly spat a mouthful of bright red blood, the man's heart would clutch.
"Call finished!" the woman tiptoed out of the room, whispering, "All right?"
"It's a big deal, keep it down." the man lowered his voice.
"Let me have a look." The woman shoved the man aside, curious to see what had happened. Earlier she had only heard voices in the hallway, so she glanced. All she saw was the killer maniac holding a knife; she dared not look further.
"Why are you squeezing?" the man whispered, "Don't be so gullible; careful, you'll have nightmares after looking."
The woman didn't believe him, putting her eye to the peephole.
After just one glance, the woman was stunned and screamed aloud.
The man immediately clapped his hand over her mouth, his hand shaking terribly. "Done," he thought. "We've been heard; he'll surely silence us both."
He didn't blame the woman; his mind went blank. He only hoped the police would arrive soon—not necessarily to catch the killer maniac, just to scare him off.
As for the future… heading to a relative's place at the hospital to hide for a while could also be considered. As long as it isn't a massive zombie virus outbreak, let's hope it's not the apocalypse.
Damn, it's terrifying; the man clamped his hand over the woman's mouth, terrified she'd make a sound and draw that horrible guy's attention.
A security door might not hold back zombies; this thing keeps out gentlemen but not scoundrels. If it were really the strong‑and‑sturdy type…
Still shaken, he suddenly heard several urgent voices in the hallway.
Gathering his courage, he crept back to the peephole, really afraid that as he approached he'd see an eye looking in……
The imagined horrific scene didn't appear; two medical staff in white coats appeared in the hallway, accompanied by two stretcher bearers.
But the man didn't think of this as a routine emergency rescue; instead, he instinctively concluded, following his earlier train of thought, that this was an organized, premeditated murder.
That poor little girl was to be sent to some laboratory……
……
……
"Teacher Gao, I'm here!" Zhou Litao rushed out of the elevator, just in time to see Gao Shaojie spitting out a mouthful of blood foam.
He examined the patient carefully; the thyroid cartilage below had already been cut open, a tube inserted habitually, and Gao Shaojie was pressing on the patient, striving to suck out the blood foam causing suffocation with his mouth.
"I'll do it." Zhou Litao said immediately, then knelt on the ground and opened the first‑aid kit.
Inside were all kinds of equipment; Yun Ge'er had explained the patient's condition and what needed to be done when he called.
The nurse swiftly established an IV line and pushed in corticosteroids.
"Help!" Zhou Litao saw the patient continually struggling, afraid of hurting her, so he called for the stretcher workers to assist.
He restrained the patient's thrashing while shouting loudly, "Don't move—I'm a doctor, don't flail, it's fine!"
