Chapter 2945: 2745 Overnight White Hair

~7 min read 1,222 words

Zheng Ren had many dreams.

It was as if he were using the True Eye to see the future of some illness, and as if he had broken through the barrier of the System Space and walked into the empty void outside.

Until he saw a figure in the distance that looked like Ning Shu, Zheng Ren suddenly shuddered and woke up frightened.

After waking up, he found himself lying on the bed in the lounge, glanced at the System Panel, and saw that his Energy Value had already recovered to 1000 points.

But the Energy bar seemed to have grown a little; 1000 points of Energy Value occupied only a little more than half of the space.

Could it be that what he saw with his eyesight wasn't the truth? Had his judgment of details deviated?

He carefully looked at the Energy bar again; the upper limit hadn't changed, still 1345 points—he had misread it.

Feeling a bit disappointed, Zheng Ren still thought that after his Energy Value was exhausted and he barely survived, it would break its original shackles and increase dramatically. Perhaps he was just too eager for his Energy Value limit to expand; this amount of Energy Value really wasn't enough.

It wasn't that easy; the Big Pig Trotter didn't give any quest, and Zheng Ren gave an embarrassed laugh.

His head wasn't so dizzy anymore; he turned his head slightly and immediately heard Johannes Mandi's voice: "Zheng, you're awake!"

He had been watching him? Zheng Ren smiled slightly and sat up from the bed.

His body was a little tired, but okay; his head felt a bit dizzy, like after a roller coaster, but he could bear it.

"You slept for twelve hours!" Johannes Mandi said, making an exaggerated gesture, "I thought..."

"How is Xiao Shitou?"

"What?"

"How is the patient's condition? After giving Octreotide to the vein." Zheng Ren asked.

"Good heavens, I think your physical condition right now is what deserves the most concern. Doctor Zheng, isn't that so?" Johannes Mandi complained.

Zheng Ren looked at him, his gaze firm.

"According to Karl's report, the patient's watery sputum is gradually decreasing." Johannes Mandi had no choice but to first talk about Xiao Shitou's condition: "Based on his judgment, it will drop to 50 ml per day within 24–48 hours."

That's good; fortunately, before losing consciousness, he had seen the treatment plan, and Zheng Ren let out a long sigh.

Although it's regrettable that they hadn't found a ultimate cure, being able to buy some time was also good.

"I'll go check on Xiao Shitou." Zheng Ren said.

"Zheng, your body……" Johannes Mandi wanted to say something but stopped.

Zheng Ren smiled and said, "No problem, strong as an ox!"

Knowing that Xiao Shitou's mucus secretion had been initially controlled, Zheng Ren's mood improved, and he even tried to crack a joke. But the joke was too stiff; Mandi didn't laugh at all, and his expression grew even more solemn.

"What on earth is going on?" Zheng Ren asked Mandi doubtfully.

"Zheng……" Johannes Mandi hesitated, then pointed to the mirror in the changing room.

Zheng Ren doubted as he got out of bed, moved his body a little, and felt everything was still fine.

His body felt a bit sore, numb, and swollen, but that should be the aftereffect of his Energy Value being depleted. As for other things… he didn't feel very dizzy, had no nausea or vomiting symptoms, and seemed to be recovering quickly.

Nothing's wrong, what does Johannes Mandi's expression mean?

He dubiously came to the changing room, and when he saw his own reflection in the mirror, Zheng Ren froze.

Half of his jet-black hair had turned gray, mixed in with the black, making him look as if he had aged five to ten years.

Is this the aftereffect of his Energy Value being exhausted? Zheng Ren shuddered, stared blankly at his reflection in the mirror, and recalled the situation then.

Throughout history there have been many stories of turning white overnight; in ancient times there was Wu Zixu, in modern times there was Qiao Jianfeng. Although Zheng Ren didn't believe this notion, once it happened to him, he inexplicably felt some fear.

It seems the True Eye is a demon's temptation; unless absolutely necessary, it still shouldn't be used. Let Old Luo go to hell—if his Energy Value is under 100,000 points, no matter what, he cannot use the True Eye to fulfill his wish.

"Zheng, you've gotten much older." Johannes Mandi sighed.

"Perhaps it's better to say he's become much more mature." Zheng Ren forced a smile, quickly accepted his change, tidied his clothes in front of the mirror, and walked out of the changing room.

"Mandi, let's go see the patient." Zheng Ren said.

"I think you should rest a bit."

Johannes Mandi had originally wanted to insist, but under Zheng Ren's gaze he quickly changed his mind.

"When you collapsed, you scared the hell out of me." Sitting on the electric cart, Johannes Mandi recounted the situation: "I thought you'd get hurt, but fortunately you didn't. You know, Zheng, when your head hit the floor, I thought you'd smash the floor."

Zheng Ren smiled as he listened to Mandi's words, carefully felt the changes in his body, but found nothing abnormal.

He estimated that part of his hair had turned gray, truly just the aftereffect of his mental energy being exhausted. Just a moment ago he was thinking that as long as he didn't die, he could keep trying. Now he sees he was still too naive.

Such a risky move should absolutely not be used unless absolutely necessary; his earlier intuition had been correct.

Arriving at Xiao Shitou's room, the ventilator's sound was still so familiar. Wen Xiaonuan looked up, saw Zheng Ren, and also froze.

She stared for a few seconds, tears dripped down, landing on the back of Xiao Shitou's thin hand.

Zheng Ren smiled, raised his hand to make a "don't worry" gesture, and went to Xiao Shitou's side.

The ventilator's readings were fairly ideal, the airway pressure wasn't high, the oxygen concentration given had become 45%, and the blood oxygen saturation rose to 98%.

Afterwards Zheng Ren turned and said, "Let me look at the monitoring records for this period."

Johannes Mandi immediately had Doctor Karl bring the values Zheng Ren needed and hand them over.

Flipping through page after page, Zheng Ren also felt somewhat emotional.

Octreotide took effect on Xiao Shitou, and the effect was surprisingly good. For the mucus overflow, it seemed Octreotide was a specific effective drug.

Really not bad; if there were no special changes, after 24–48 hours they should be able to remove the ventilator and extubate.

But unfortunately, regarding this change, Zheng Ren hadn't found a thorough solution. His Energy Value was still too low, and he expressed some frustration about it.

Moreover, this adventure used the True Eye once, consuming all stored Energy potions entirely, so he probably couldn't use the True Eye skill again for a while.

Not to mention a while; as long as the Big Pig Trotter doesn't give a quest rewarding Energy Value, Zheng Ren feels he should never use the True Eye again.

"You all rest, you've worked hard." Zheng Ren said to Doctor Karl with full gratitude, "Thank you."
