Chapter 394
Cheng Lixue hung up the phone, took out a cigarette, and lit it.
He took a deep drag, but he still hadn't recovered.
Although he wasn't from Cardiothoracic Surgery, he still knew basic medical emergency care.
How serious cardiac tamponade is, any old doctor knows. Even if saved, he'd probably be a vegetable.
Is Old Qian just trying to fool himself?
He sat in the Gengyishi chair, silently smoking. The smoke swirled, especially harsh.
No matter how he thought, Cheng Lixue couldn't figure it out.
He glanced at the time; it was almost nine. He had left just twenty minutes ago. The Shou Bing probably just began, but since Director Ren was arriving, it'd be better to go back.
Just as he walked out of the Gengyishi, Cheng Lixue saw a nurse beckoning a patient inside.
"What's the rush!" Cheng Lixue glared, shouting harshly: "The Shou Bing still has several hours—are you making the patient wait in the Operating Room?!"
Cheng Lixue was already unhappy about doing eight Shou Bing a day; now he seized the chance to erupt.
"Director Cheng..."
"How did you learn the Operating Room procedure! The patient is so old, with ascites, you make him sit outside the Operating Room for hours! Do you have any medical ethics!" Cheng Lixue was displeased, seized on a loophole, and immediately blew things out of proportion.
The little nurse, after being scolded a few sentences, felt wronged, tears welling in her eyes.
Cheng Lixue was about to say a few softer words, but resorting to beating and pulling—is that a method of struggle?
But before he could speak, the short, fat guy ran out.
"What's wrong, Director Cheng? You're..." the short, fat guy wondered.
"Who ordered bringing the patient in this early!" Cheng Lixue said coldly.
"The Shou Bing is done—this is the second patient." The short, fat guy's eyes shifted; he immediately realized what had happened. Cheng Lixue had been glaring all day, and seeing him also annoyed, he spoke with a barb: "Director Cheng, after the patient finishes the Shou Bing and goes out, are you preparing to celebrate again, then start the second? Actually, celebrating is appropriate, after all, this is our Eryuan's first TIPS Shou Bing. But the patient is so old—waiting too long is not good."
The short, fat guy wasn't any pushover; though he acted all fawning before Zheng Ren, when he talked tough he was quite formidable.
"Uh..." Cheng Lixue froze.
"Done? How is that possible!"
That's a TIPS Surgery—being able to pull it off makes you an Intervention Department doctor who can't be any more badass; in the time it takes me to smoke a cigarette, how could it already be finished?
"What did you say?" Cheng Lixue demanded sharply.
"The Shou Bing is all done—Director Cheng, are you preparing to interfere with the Shou Bing process, or are you expressing dissatisfaction with the hospital inviting a professor to do the Shou Bing?" Seeing Cheng Lixue unimpressed, the short, fat guy's words grew sharper.
Because a patient was sitting on the bench by the door changing shoes, both of their pointedly opposed voices were low.
But although the voices were low, that didn't mean they weren't sharp.
"""..." Cheng Lixue was stunned.
Really done? A TIPS Surgery finished in half an hour?
Impossible…… This is absolutely impossible!
A year ago, Director Ren led a team abroad to study and observe Shou Bing; Director Cheng also watched one or two. Because he was old and lacked enthusiasm, he had no interest in TIPS Surgery.
Such a risky Shou Bing—whoever wants to do it can do it; I, for one, won't.
As the saying goes, 'who walks by the river won't get their shoes wet'? Waiting quietly to retire—isn't that nice? Even if he studied, he probably wouldn't learn it.
During the whole trip to Europe, Cheng Lixue treated it as a publicly funded vacation; he basically didn't participate in many activities, but instead had a blast.
But even the basics he knew: even at Europe's most badass hospital, doing one TIPS Surgery takes 2-3 hours.
It must be that the Shou Bing has a problem!
The door of the Shujian opened, the patient was pushed out. The nurse gave Cheng Lixue a sideways glance, then brought the next patient into the Operating Room.
Cheng Lixue didn't have time to argue with the short, fat guy; he quickly walked into the operating room, and the images were pulled up frame by frame.
Catheter placement, puncture—one needle successful, leaving a stent…… also leaving a retrievable stent? They not only succeeded with one needle, but also had time to leave two stents.
But…… this is too fast, right?
How could that young Inpatient Chief be so capable? Impossible.
Cheng Lixue dazed.
"Director Ren, you're back."
"Director, you must be tired—sit down and rest."
A string of flattery came from behind Cheng Lixue; he was a bit dazed, not yet realizing it was past nine, Director Ren had rushed back from Sheng Cheng.
Is the Shou Bing really done that fast? Cheng Lixue originally had a trump card, preparing eight patients for TIPS Surgery—was this supposed to take several days? Three or two? All patients were fasting from water, which itself violates medical principle.
At least, it's inhumane.
But now it looks like they can actually do eight Shou Bing a day.
Damn it!
"Professor?" the hospital director whispered in surprise.
"What professor?" Cheng Lixue was still dazed.
Footsteps sounded behind him, and the hospital director pushed through the crowd and entered the Operating Room.
"Professor Rudolf, is that you?" the hospital director asked, still sounding surprised and bewildered.
"It's me, huh?" Professor Rudolf Wagner replied, turning around.
His pure Dong Bei accent nearly gave the hospital director a heart attack.
Is this still Germany's Heidelberg University, that stern, rigid, unsmiling Professor Rudolf Wagner whose skill is so high it's despair‑inducing?
"Do you know me?" the professor asked while disinfecting.
The hospital director steadied himself, bowed slightly like a student, and said, "Last April, I led a team to Heidelberg University to observe you perform TIPS Surgery."
"What's there to see?" the professor said after finishing disinfecting, beginning to lay out the drapes, "Back then the Shou Bing was a total mess."
"..."
A mouthful of old blood nearly spurted out; Director Ren felt a pain in his chest and had some difficulty breathing.
Brief Conversation, Director Ren confirmed several points.
This person is indeed Professor Rudolf Wagner of Heidelberg University. Director Ren had already judged from appearance; not everyone is like Zheng Ren, unable to recognize people. Director Ren's ability to never forget what he sees is quite strong.
Plus the professor admitted it himself, Director Ren has nothing to Doubt.
A con artist entering the Operating Room? This kind of thing has never happened before.
What's there to con in the Operating Room? Con X-ray beams into eating?
「Professor, how are you personally disinfecting? 」 Director Ren glanced sideways at the person beside him and said: 「Get someone to help the Professor. Zhang Guang Zhi, are you letting the Professor perform the surgery himself? You won't even dress and go on stage? What about Cheng Lixue? 」
Director Zhang was startled, cold sweat instantly breaking out on his forehead.
The short fatty came over, smiling broadly, and whispered: 'Director Ren, we didn't invite this Professor; he's from City First Hospital. Professor, Professor…'
"What Professor?" Director Ren wondered.
"The Professor came to be Chief Zheng's assistant at City First Hospital."
