Chapter 696: 685 Can't Say Where the Excellence Lies
Zheng Ren looked for a few seconds, feeling the person was familiar. But wearing a mask, he couldn't tell who it was.
Even without a mask, Zheng Ren still couldn't recognize the person.
Su Yun helped lift the patient, then followed Zheng Ren's gaze and said, "Hey, isn't this Mu Tao from Pengcheng?"
"Mu Tao? Is he the student of Wu Haishi, Wu Lao?" Zheng Ren remembered the name, but just couldn't make it out.
"Mm." Su Yun's voice came through the mask, a bit muffled, "Did this guy come here to sleep?"
"Probably he's tired."
Su Yun also knew, but he just habitually retorted. In fact, he was exhausted to the point of feeling like his body was falling apart, ready to collapse and fall asleep at any moment.
"Su Yun, go get some sleep," Zheng Ren said.
"Why don't you go sleep?" Su Yun retorted unhappily. Earlier in Nanchuan Town, he hadn't gone in to perform the final surgery, then encountered a strong aftershock. This matter was like a sharp needle lodged in his heart; just thinking about it made him uncomfortable.
"I..." Zheng Ren wanted to say he wasn't tired, but he felt that saying so would make Su Yun even less likely to sleep.
It really is a hassle; he can't explain to Su Yun that his lead clothing can convert radiation energy, and that he had also taken an energy potion.
Even with two different system items boosting him, Zheng Ren was so tired he couldn't bear it.
He had barely slept for several days and nights; as for food, he only had a few mouthfuls of compressed biscuits in Nanchuan Town. Hmm, orange-flavored, it tasted strange but wasn't bad.
Now his whole body was overdrawn.
But there were still patients, countless wounded awaiting treatment; Zheng Ren struggled to squeeze every bit of his energy.
After positioning the newly arrived casualties and scrubbing back in, Zheng Ren was startled to see Su Yun standing at the operating table, holding oval forceps, his body swaying back and forth.
This guy had fallen asleep standing up……
Zheng Ren quickly called out to Director Jiang, but had to keep his voice low so as not to wake Su Yun.
Several nurses rushed to support the dazed Su Yun to the sofa in the operating area and lay him down. A large green sterile gown was thoughtfully placed over Su Yun, after which the nurses were satisfied.
Zheng Ren glanced at Mu Tao, the poor guy who had been sitting asleep there for who knows how long, with no one attending to him.
The circulating nurse, seeing that Su Yun had been covered with a sterile gown, then remembered there was another person who had slept a while, and fetched another gown to cover Mu Tao.
Summoning his strength, Zheng Ren began to lay out the sheets for the patient, preparing for surgery.
"Doctor Zheng, this is a domestically produced guidewire; is it easy to use?" Director Jiang brought over a new guidewire and asked.
"It's fine; I've always used this kind of guidewire," Zheng Ren said calmly.
"Domestic guidewires are probably too stiff." Director Jiang worried that Zheng Ren wouldn't handle it well, delaying the surgery. After all, there were so many wounded outside… but he felt embarrassed to say it outright.
"Apply a bit gentler force, add a wrist rotation of about 5-8 degrees, and you'll find the stiff guidewire actually handles better than a soft one." Zheng Ren demonstrated this to Director Jiang.
Director Jiang didn't understand……
"5-8 degrees? Can wrist movement really be that precise?"
"You also need to coordinate with your fingers; just practice a lot and you'll get the hang of it." Zheng Ren smiled; though his mask hid his expression, his tone was gentle.
Xie Ning stood at the doorway, quietly watching Zheng Ren and Director Jiang's conversation.
Director Jiang still didn't get it; seeing that Zheng Ren was about to start surgery, he knew the technique Zheng Ren mentioned was key to his own growth, but he couldn't keep pulling Zheng Ren aside with questions, lest it delay the surgery.
Normally, being off by a few tenths wouldn't matter, but now there are still many patients outside waiting for surgery.
But he couldn't figure it out; if he gave up, he'd feel reluctant.
He carefully asked, "Doctor Zheng, after the earthquake relief is over, may I come study with you? How does that sound?"
"I mainly do organ interventions, with some involvement in vascular interventions. If you have time, you can come to the capital and we can discuss it." Zheng Ren said, as his arterial needle had already drawn blood, placed the arterial sheath, and the guidewire advanced smoothly.
This was about to hit the mark; Director Jiang felt a bit regretful, but gaining Zheng Ren's promise was also a gain.
He left the operating room reluctantly, closing the airtight lead door.
"Director Jiang, what were you two talking about?" Xie Ning asked while working, feigning casualness.
"Doctor Zheng is really talented at a young age." Director Jiang sighed and said, "I just asked him whether the domestic microguidewire would be too stiff, not easy to handle. He explained the technical issue… saying not to worry about your jokes, Uncle Ning, I frankly didn't understand a thing."
"Hehe, you're just joking, right?" Xie Ning asked.
"I don't think so; his surgery really is impressive." Director Jiang leaned in mysteriously, his handiwork unaffected, and whispered, "The other operating room's Professor Mu rushed back from the Mayo Clinic in the United States to join the earthquake relief."
"Mm." Xie Ning nodded, not interrupting Director Jiang.
"Around here, a small place, when have we ever seen an American professor?" Director Jiang, intentionally or not, concealed the fact that Mu Tao had actually gone to the Mayo Clinic for further study—this is only human nature. In the operating room, he could still sound plausible, but over drinks, after half a jin, he could boast that Mu Tao was the Mayo Clinic's top doctor.
Xie Ning smiled, letting the nonsense go in one ear and out the other.
"Uncle Ning, do you know the Mayo Clinic?"
"I know; it's one of the best hospitals in the world, and in some fields it can be called the best." Xie Ning said.
"Yeah, with such an awesome place and such an awesome doctor, my skill must be awesome too. When I first watched Professor Mu perform surgery, I was dumbfounded." Director Jiang spoke in a fluent Sichuan accent, "His surgery is just smooth."
"And then?" Xie Ning asked, chuckling as he distributed high-value consumables.
"Just admire him, what else can I do?" Director Jiang said: "He came all the way to join the earthquake relief, his level is still so high, what more can I say. But Uncle Ning, do you know what I thought after seeing Doctor Zheng's surgery?"
"Hehe, you wouldn't think Doctor Zheng's surgery is better than the Mayo Clinic's Professor Mu's, would you?" At times like this, Xie Ning would of course chime in, following Director Jiang's lead.
Although Xie Ning had already sensed a hint from Director Jiang's expression and tone.
"Mm, how to put it…" Director Jiang racked his brain, hesitated a few seconds, then said: "Let's put it this way: I know Professor Mu's surgery is awesome and I can say exactly what's awesome about it. But I know Doctor Zheng's surgery is awesome too, yet I can't grasp it—I don't know exactly where the awesomeness lies."
