Chapter 997: 976 Smashing with Money
"Heart Ion Channel Disease." Zheng Ren walked into the elevator, saying calmly.
"The symptoms match, but do you think the Mayo Clinic could skip related tests for this disease? Its annual revenue is nearly a hundred billion dollars—did it all just blow in with the wind?" Su Yun said with a look of contempt.
"Heart ion channel testing involves thousands of genes; to date we've only clarified over twenty sequences and over 1,500 genes. Even if the Mayo Clinic Medical Center had a breakthrough, it couldn't possibly figure them all out." Zheng Ren said.
"Tsk."
"This is a judgment made by a clinical doctor based on rich clinical experience." Zheng Ren said solemnly, spouting nonsense.
Professor Rudolf Wagner stood silently to the side, utterly bewildered. What gu poison, what head-lowering— the professor really had no idea; could it be some kind of medieval witchcraft?
The three went upstairs and returned to their respective rooms.
But Su Yun quickly came to Zheng Ren's room, laughing, and said: "The Zou family will send someone over shortly—guess how much consultation fee they'll give you?"
"Who knows."
"It won't be less—usually around a hundred thousand Hong Kong dollars, that's the going rate." Su Yun said.
"Whatever. As for that patient with renal artery stenosis, has the Mayo Clinic replied?" Zheng Ren asked.
"Not yet."
"Alright then." Zheng Ren went to wash up, and while washing his face he said: "I diagnosed heart ion channel disease, but it's a bit of a stretch—after all, I lack solid diagnostic grounds. If the patient is highly compliant, we could try surgery. But look at the situation now; even if I wanted to operate, they'd probably refuse."
"I regret your lack of rigor in the diagnosis." Su Yun said, flipping through her phone, absent-minded.
Zheng Ren began brushing his teeth; the electric toothbrush Xiao Yi Ren had prepared buzzed, making his head ache a little.
He'll get used to it, Zheng Ren thought.
Not long after, a knock sounded at the door.
Zheng Ren opened the door; a man in a navy blue suit stood before him, a distant smile on his face, holding out an exquisite box with both hands. He said, "Mr. Zheng, please review the data from my master."
"Oh." Zheng Ren, toothbrush in hand, took the box with one hand.
"Then I'll take my leave." The man in the navy blue suit said, then turned and departed.
He was furious, but couldn't lash out back then.
This young man is utterly arrogant! The old master said he'd send the data, yet he's brushing his teeth!
Is this disregard or disrespect toward the old master? Anyway, when facing the Zou family of Xianggang, he's never encountered such casualness.
Expressionless, he walked out of the hotel, approached the extended Lincoln, and whispered: "Old master, the data has been delivered."
"Oh, what did Doctor Zheng say?" Zou Jia Hua looked at something, his face grave.
"He… is brushing his teeth." The man in the navy blue suit paused, unable to believe his own words as he spoke them.
"Brushing his teeth?" Zou Yu seemed on the verge of outrage, sneering: "He really thinks he's somebody."
Zou Jia Hua held a few sheets of paper that still radiated residual warmth.
He seemed not to have heard the assistant's words, instead carefully reading what was written on those sheets.
It was as if he were conducting a massive acquisition that could decide the life or death of the Zou family.
"He's definitely somebody." Zou Jia Hua said lightly: "Despite his young age, he's already a member of the health care team—you can't judge a person by years."
"Dad, he…"
Zou Jia Hua raised his hand; Zou Yu swallowed his words unwillingly and fell silent.
After a long while, Zou Jia Hua finally lifted his head and asked lightly: "How reliable is the data?"
"Basically reliable." The man in the navy blue suit said firmly: "He's a Nobel Prize nominee, with official Swedish documentation. As for the surgery, I consulted a Chinese-descent doctor at the Karolinska Institute of Stockholm's medical university; he said he personally witnessed that operation."
"How difficult is the surgery?"
"Doctor Mei Ha'er's illness had lingered for a long time; world-renowned experts had all consulted on it. Moreover, his partner was also a cardiology specialist, yet they were helpless. When Zheng Ren, Doctor Zheng, went to the Karolinska Institute, he supposedly arrived during a massive heart attack."
"In other words, they only let Doctor Zheng perform the surgery when there was no other option?" Zou Jia Hua asked.
"Hmm." The assistant said: "I asked, and Doctor Mei Ha'er has basically recovered his health after the surgery, now undergoing final checkups. If everything goes smoothly, in half a month he'll head to the Imperial Capital for a second-stage treatment."
Zou Jia Hua placed the papers on his knees, gazing out the window as his fingers lightly tapped the surface—like his heartbeat, thudding.
The man in the navy blue suit and Zou Yu remained silent, not daring to speak and disturb him; even their breathing grew much softer.
They knew this was Zou Jia Hua's habitual gesture when making a major decision.
After a long while, Zou Jia Hua asked: "Why has Doctor Zheng come to Pengcheng this time?"
"Apparently, Doctor Mu, a disciple of Old Wu, invited him to come give a teaching surgery."
"Tomorrow, go visit Old Wu." Zou Jia Hua finally said.
"Dad, I've been to Old Wu's place, and he didn't notice anything either. Do you really want to look into that young doctor's background and have him treat you?"
"Anyone who can cure illness is a good doctor, regardless of age." Zou Jia Hua smiled faintly: "Early this year, in Yangcheng, that person's surgeries were all performed by Doctor Zheng—what's wrong with that?"
Zou Yu wanted to say something, but held back.
"Cash, three million yuan." Zou Jia Hua said softly: "Have the person contacting the bank withdraw it overnight and bring the money tomorrow morning to see Old Wu."
"Won't a check do?"
"A check is just a piece of paper. According to the data, he's merely an orphan, this young—he probably hasn't seen much money. Cash has a greater impact." Zou Jia Hua smiled: "When seeking medical help, remember, it's a request. If he can be cured, giving him half the family estate—what's the harm?"
"Dad!" Zou Yu exclaimed.
"Just joking." Zou Jia Hua looked affectionately at Zou Yu and said: "Whether it's illness or gu poison, it must be resolved; otherwise one can't sleep soundly day and night. When your grandfather and I used to talk about it, I didn't understand either. But seeing him fall asleep like that one day and never wake up, I knew this matter would eventually fall to me."
"Let's try—any news from Nanyang?"
"No. Several ancient gu-using clans all say they've never seen this kind of gu poison. Old master, we've consulted all the experts we could find, and even some reclusive masters—tracking them down isn't a matter of a day or two." The man in the navy blue suit said.
"Hmm." Zou Jia Hua nodded: "Let's go."
The black extended Lincoln, flanked by two cars, slowly drove away from the hotel, disappearing into the night.
