Chapter 143: You Want Me to Carry Him Too?

~4 min read 701 words

Owen Sterling grabbed a nearby chair and swung it at them again.

The men holding Chloe Reed let go. The two of them rushed at Owen Sterling, pinning him to the ground and beating him.

"That’ll teach you to stick your fucking nose where it doesn’t belong!"

"I’m gonna kill you today!"

"..."

Chloe Reed staggered to her feet. She stumbled to the door and was about to open it when, in the next second, it was pulled open from the outside.

Walker Grant’s tall, lean figure stood in the doorway. She froze for a moment, then reached out and grabbed his arm. "Get them. They were hurting me."

Her face was flushed, her hair was a mess, and her clothes were heavily wrinkled.

The private room was in chaos.

Walker Grant just glanced around the room before grabbing her and handing her off to Nathaniel Monroe, who was behind him.

Then, he walked straight in and shut the door to the room.

Soon, agonized howls of pain came from inside.

Nathaniel Monroe’s eyelids twitched as he listened. He said, "It’s been a long time since Walker got this angry."

Chloe Reed was terribly dizzy, but she still remembered Owen Sterling was inside. She went forward and pounded on the door. "Don’t... don’t hurt Manager Owen."

Nathaniel Monroe steadied her. "Chloe, just leave it be. Let me take you to the hospital."

"N-No..."

Chloe Reed was afraid Walker Grant would beat up Owen Sterling along with the others.

The initial curses and howls turned into painful pleas for mercy in just a few short minutes.

When the door opened again, Walker Grant was surrounded by a violent aura. His sharp eyes were filled with an indescribable emotion, and his breathing was slightly heavy.

Behind him, the two men had been beaten so badly they couldn’t get up.

Owen Sterling looked just as battered, sitting on the floor, apparently still in shock from what had just happened.

Chloe Reed’s gaze went to Owen Sterling.

But the next second, she was swept up into someone’s arms, and he strode out of the restaurant.

"Call the cops."

Walker Grant dropped two words, leaving Nathaniel Monroe to handle the scene.

Being suddenly lifted made Chloe Reed even dizzier. She clutched his shirt, closed her eyes, and said with difficulty, "Manager Owen needs to go to the hospital, too."

Walker Grant’s tone was unreadable. "You want me to carry him there, too?"

Chloe Reed: "..."

’What kind of sick joke is this!’

’It’s not funny at all!’

Chloe Reed fell silent.

At the hospital, an examination revealed she had inhaled a large amount of a sedative drug, which needed to be flushed from her system.

She was put on an IV drip right away.

Walker Grant pulled over a chair and sat by her hospital bed. He watched her, his eyes veiled with a faint chill.

His stare made her extremely uncomfortable. She simply turned her head away so he couldn’t see her face.

But to her surprise, he reached out, grabbed her chin, and turned her face back toward him.

Chloe Reed’s eyes snapped open, and she glared at him angrily. "What do you think you’re doing?!"

Walker Grant said, "Just wanted to see if you had any thoughts after insisting on getting a job, only to end up like this."

Chloe Reed sneered. "Are you gloating? Are you happy to see me in such a miserable state?"

Walker Grant actually let out a laugh, exasperated. "Chloe, if I wanted to laugh at your misfortune, why would I have bothered helping you?"

Chloe Reed turned her face away again. "Did I ask for your help?"

The air fell silent.

After a long moment, he finally said, "You’re right, I’m the one who insists on meddling. If I don’t, it’s like an itch I can’t scratch. It drives me crazy."

Chloe Reed’s gaze lost focus for an instant. A sudden sour feeling pricked at her heart, and she closed her eyes again, suppressing the wave of emotion.

He would help her, and he would help Sunny Reed. In his heart, there was no difference between her and Sunny Reed.

’So, what was there to cry about?’
