Chapter 301: Signing the Divorce
Judith Pierce sat back down in her chair, her face pale and haggard. She looked at Chloe Reed, her expression complicated. "Chloe, I don’t know who you’ve offended, but you and Walker can’t be together anymore. You’ll drag him down with you. I’ve already lost one son. I can’t lose Walker, too."
Her voice was weary, laced with pain.
Chloe Reed remained silent, the stark white light of the hallway making her face appear just as pale.
"Julian was so exceptional. He made his mark as soon as he started taking over the company. His father and I had such high hopes for him. He never gave us a single thing to worry about growing up..."
A look of reminiscence flickered in Judith Pierce’s eyes, but it was quickly followed by profound grief.
Julian Grant had been on a business trip abroad when his plane unexpectedly crashed into the ocean. To this day, the wreckage has never been found.
At first, they had pulled every string they could to find him, but the search was fruitless.
From a location deep in the sea, Julian Grant’s personal backpack was salvaged. Inside were his identification documents...
Only then was his death confirmed.
Even after four years, the pain hadn’t lessened one bit.
Every time she thought back on it, the grief was so overwhelming Judith Pierce wished she could just die on the spot.
"So, nothing can happen to Walker. Absolutely nothing..." Judith Pierce’s gaze grew determined. "You’ve always wanted to divorce him. While he’s in a coma, let’s get it done. I know the court date is in two days, but in his condition, Walker can’t possibly go. The hearing will be postponed."
Chloe Reed’s long lashes fluttered. Only then did she finally speak. "Alright. I’ll do what you want."
She truly didn’t want to drag an innocent person into this.
And she would do everything she could to find out who was trying to kill her.
A smile touched Judith Pierce’s lips. "Chloe, you’re a good, sensible child."
Chloe Reed said nothing.
「An hour later.」
Dylan Finch returned with the documents.
Judith Pierce took them, looked them over carefully, and then said, "Chloe, do you want to take a look? If there’s anything you’re not satisfied with, just add it in."
"There’s no need."
Chloe Reed shook her head. "I’ll just sign it."
She took the pen Dylan Finch handed her and signed the divorce papers.
Afterward, Judith Pierce took the papers, stood up, and entered the intensive care unit.
Dylan Finch followed her in, still trying to reason with her. "Ma’am, perhaps we should wait until Mr. Grant wakes up..."
But Judith Pierce was resolute. "I will not allow my son to be placed in danger."
Her words left Dylan Finch speechless.
Inside Walker Grant’s room, he lay with an oxygen mask over his face, still unconscious.
Judith Pierce set the papers aside, tucked the pen between his fingers, then grasped his hand and began signing his name on the document.
The position was awkward, and the writing wasn’t smooth, but Judith Pierce moved slowly, trying to keep the signature neat.
The steady beeping of a machine sounded from beside the bed.
Judith Pierce gripped his hand, writing out the first two characters of his name, one stroke at a time.
The final character was intricate, with many strokes, and she slowed her movements even more.
However, just as she was about to complete the final stroke, Walker Grant suddenly moved.
He suddenly clenched his fist around the pen, scribbling randomly over the signature line.
And just like that, the name she had so painstakingly written was destroyed.
Stunned, Judith Pierce looked at him, her gaze meeting his deep, dark eyes.
"Mom... what are you doing?"
His voice came through the oxygen mask, muffled and weak.
