Chapter 509: Don’t Know Where the Antidote Is

~4 min read 604 words

Claire Monroe stood before Sunny Reed, guiding her into a hypnotic state and leading her to the sofa.

Walker Grant and Nathaniel Monroe both watched.

Nathaniel Monroe found it fascinating. ’Can she really hypnotize someone without a specific setting?’

’This is unbelievable!’

’If his sister hypnotized him while he wasn’t looking and made him spill his bank PIN or sign some contract—like signing his life away—wouldn’t he be totally screwed?’

’How do you even defend against that?’

Sunny Reed was now under hypnosis. Her eyes had lost their focus completely, and she answered whatever Claire Monroe asked.

Soon, Sunny Reed began speaking about the poison.

"My grandmother gave it to me. I don’t know how it’s made."

Her cadence was slow, her voice low.

Walker Grant’s sharp brows furrowed. He glanced at Claire Monroe.

Claire Monroe continued her questioning. "And where did your grandmother get the poison?"

"I don’t know. She wouldn’t tell me."

Sunny Reed kept repeating that she didn’t know. After several more attempts with the same result, it was clear she genuinely had no idea.

Claire Monroe snapped her fingers again. Sunny Reed’s eyes fluttered shut, and she instantly fell into a deep sleep.

She said, "She won’t have any memory of being hypnotized. You can rest easy."

Walker Grant nodded and then headed outside.

The group walked out together. Claire Monroe said bluntly, "Remember to wire the payment to my account."

Walker Grant said, "There are two more people I need you to handle. Get as much useful information out of them as you can."

Claire Monroe yawned. "That’ll be extra."

"Mm."

Hearing him agree so readily, Claire Monroe couldn’t help but give him a curious glance. "Who are these two? What’s it about?"

Walker Grant said, "It’s about my wife."

A smile played on Claire Monroe’s lips. She then turned to Nathaniel Monroe and crooked a finger. "Come on, my dear brother, tell me everything that’s happened over the years. I’m just so curious."

Nathaniel Monroe nodded, signaling it was no problem. He suddenly leaned closer and asked, "Sis, if I don’t want to talk, are you going to hypnotize me and make me spill everything?"

"You want me to hypnotize you?" Claire Monroe scoffed. "In your dreams!"

She yawned again and said, "Do you think hypnotism is some simple trick? It’s incredibly draining. After a session, I need to recover my energy, and that requires a lot of rest. The longer the session, the more rest I need. If I don’t get enough, accidents can easily happen during the process."

She glanced at Nathaniel Monroe. "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. Drop the schemes. I couldn’t care less about the piddling amount of money you have."

Nathaniel Monroe was speechless.

He was furious at being belittled, but the anger lasted only a moment. She had him completely cowed; he didn’t dare to fight back.

Claire Monroe pulled open the car door and got in. "Let’s continue tomorrow night. I’m a bit tired now."

Then, she looked at Nathaniel Monroe. "Come on, pup, drive. And fill me in on the gossip while you’re at it. I love gossip."

Nathaniel Monroe was speechless.

As they drove away, Walker Grant made a phone call, ordering someone to keep a close watch on Susan Bowman. He had to find out where the poison came from.

He returned to Jardinelle. The villa was dark inside and out. He went straight upstairs and stood before the door to Chloe Reed’s room.

But he didn’t push the door open. After hesitating for a few seconds, he went straight downstairs to the servants’ quarters.
