Chapter 14: The Desire to Devour the Primary Artifact

~6 min read 1,199 words

"Is this... the desire to devour?" Shawn was greatly shocked in his heart; the Soul Pearl deep within his soul seemed to want to eat the Primary Artifact.

Eat the Primary Artifact???

Although Shawn has lived in the Netherworld for over a hundred million years and has met several Prefecture heads, he truly has never encountered a Primary Artifact;

First, because experts who possess a Primary Artifact are extremely rare, most Prefecture heads do not have one; second, experts with a Primary Artifact—especially those who attack with a Primary Artifact—are very restrained about his weakness, so he deliberately avoids contact.

He did not expect that upon first encountering a Primary Artifact, the Soul Pearl would react this way.

The desire grew stronger, but Shawn still suppressed it with all his might; he did not know whether, if he let the Soul Pearl's energy touch the Primary Artifact, it would truly "devour" it, and before the Lord God he dared not act so abnormally.

After suppressing the desire deep in his soul, Shawn immediately let a drop of fresh blood from his right hand fall onto his black armor; the armor instantly flashed with dark light and gradually merged into Shawn's body. After successfully recognizing the master, the Soul Seed's devouring desire vanished, seeming not to devour Shawn's items.

The Death Overlord above did not notice any anomaly and said softly, "These are fifty drops of Death Lord God's power, consider them a reward for you becoming the Lord God's messenger. In the future, if I assign you tasks, there will also be some Lord God's power as compensation."

"Thank you, Overlord," Shawn replied again.

Becoming the Lord God's messenger makes obtaining the Lord God's power far more convenient than for others; perhaps when the Lord God is in a good mood, he will grant a bit.

Other peak cultivators must find a way to extract the Lord God's power, a difficulty so high it is almost impossible. Another method is to vie for the position of Prefecture head; once one becomes a Prefecture head and manages it earnestly, they will periodically receive a portion of the Lord God's salary, which is the Lord God's power.

The Death Overlord continued, "That's settled then. If you wish to stay on Yoming Mountain, stay here; if not, you may leave. But before you go, tell me, and you know where to find me."

"Yes, Overlord," Shawn said, then waited a while with no response; looking up again, he saw that the seat above was now empty.

The nearby Torres laughed, "Shawn, congratulations, you have also become a Lord God's messenger."

"Thank you," Shawn smiled. For a peak cultivator of the divine realm, becoming a Lord God's messenger is indeed a cause for great celebration.

Except for a very few who cherish freedom, no one would refuse the Primary Artifact and the Lord God's power, especially someone like Shawn who excels in one type of defense but is weaker in another; with a defensive Primary Artifact, one is almost "undying."

Torres added, "Let's go out first; we cannot stay alone inside the Lord God's Hall for too long."

"Alright," Shawn quickly agreed. He did not wish to linger in the Lord God's territory, even though Yoming Mountain or the entire Netherworld is also the Death Overlord's domain.

After leaving the Hall, Torres led Shawn to a house dozens of miles away and said, "This is where I live; if you stay on Yoming Mountain in the future, you can freely find a place to build a house."

"The house is nice," Shawn asked, "Torres, you've been on Yoming Mountain for countless billions of years; isn't living here boring? The Overlord also said we can leave."

Torres laughed, "Isn't it all the same wherever you are? Many years ago I also descended the mountain, established a huge tribe, enjoyed great authority, but after billions of years it was just that."

Later I came to Yoming Mountain, like the Overlord; when bored I watch the many masters adventure here, which is far more interesting than elsewhere. You'd say the entire Netherworld has no place that gathers so many masters to clash, right?

"Indeed," Shawn nodded. Yoming Mountain does attract many masters, and the Death Overlord does this for his amusement.

Torres added, "Once you're settled, I'll take you down to see. Too many divine-level beings come here to die; it's very interesting, and sometimes I also pretend to be an ordinary divine-level just entering the mountain, adventuring with them."

"Haha, you really are bored," Shawn laughed.

Torres added, "You will certainly play the same way in the future, and with a physical defense Primary Artifact and such high soul achievement, essentially there's no danger."

"Then what is your Primary Artifact?" Shawn asked curiously.

"Mine is a physical attack Primary Artifact," Torres said, and a crimson, flame-wreathed long sword appeared before him, the surrounding space warped by the fire.

The moment the Primary Artifact appeared, Shawn's Soul Pearl deep in his soul erupted with a strong desire, yearning to seize it immediately; Shawn once again suppressed this desire, confirming that the Soul Pearl wants the Primary Artifact.

But if he were to get it in his hand, what would happen? He doesn't know and dares not try; if he truly destroyed the Primary Artifact and the Death Overlord or any Lord God discovered it, the trouble would be huge.

"So powerful," Shawn said, "The fire element already excels at material attacks, and with a fire-type physical attack Primary Artifact, your material attacks are unmatched in the Netherworld."

Torres sheathed his weapon, shook his head, and said, "Not that strong. My Mysterious Profound Insight isn't very high, far below yours; even the Overlord praised you as only one step away from Great Perfection, while I'm still far behind."

"One step away is still worlds apart," Shawn shook his head and said.

If one can breakthrough the Exotic Profound fusion, it would likely grant willpower might, and then one truly reaches the All-Pervasive Divine Realm.

Torres laughed, "Don't overthink it; if one day you breakthrough, the Overlord will become your friend."

"I hope so," Shawn smiled.

Torres said, "Then I'll take you for another walk to familiarize yourself with the summit of Yoming Mountain, so you can choose your own home."

"Alright, thank you," Shawn nodded,

In the following months, Shawn chose a spot and built an ordinary house, which became his residence on Yoming Mountain,

and then began to seclude himself to continue cultivating the Exotic Profound, occasionally accompanying Torres to the three lower mist zones to observe the many who come to Yoming Mountain to die, and he also got to know the twelve snakes.

Centuries later, one day, while Shawn was in seclusion, a voice of the Death Overlord echoed in his mind, "Shawn, descend the mountain for a while and go to the Yoming Hotel."

"Yes." Shawn's divine consciousness couldn't naturally reach the Lord God, so he replied telepathically, then immediately rose and flew down the mountain at top speed.

After a short while, he arrived at the Yoming Hotel and saw the Death Overlord fishing.
