Chapter 1423: Pursuit
The angry tide surged over the building complex, smashing building after building in its path.
Two figures leapt atop the buildings—one tall, one short. The short figure held a long dagger; the tall figure clenched his fists, blue flames wrapping his forearms and knuckles.
Bang, bang, bang.
Blue fist shadows flickered, so fast they left afterimages, blue flames drifting in the air.
The short figure was Gu Lu; the tall figure, needless to say, was Sheng Yan of the Holy Flame Paradise side—he was among the first batch of contractors to arrive at Luobei City.
Gu Lu and Sheng Yan leapt between buildings, both drenched, with the tsunami sweeping in behind them, giant waves shattering all structures in their wake.
"Annoying guy."
Gu Lu threw the dagger in her hand; it sliced past Sheng Yan's ear. Just as he thought he'd dodged it, the dagger ejected sharp barbs from both sides.
Under microscopic observation, one would find a fiber thread connecting Gu Lu and the thrown dagger—so fine it's invisible to the naked eye.
Gu Lu jerked her arm, pulling back the dagger that had just flown past Sheng Yan's ear; the barbs ejected from the hilt stabbed directly into the back of his neck.
Sheng Yan, suspended in midair, grunted. At this moment, the dagger in his neck resembled a row of fishhooks, each barb bearing many tiny secondary barbs; if yanked out by brute force, half his neck would be torn open with it.
"Haha, finally hooked him."
Gu Lu pulled the fiber thread with all her strength, her forward speed increasing,
Sheng Yan's cheek muscles bulged as he tried to yank the dagger from his neck—then realized he couldn't move at all.
"Poison."
Sheng Yan was corroded by an unknown deadly toxin, which gave no warning, silently paralyzing his body.
"Oh ho~"
Gu Lu cheered, springing forward, with the tsunami and the dragged Sheng Yan behind her.
Bang!
Sheng Yan's head slammed into a building; his entire body was now rigid, not even a finger could move.
Just five minutes ago, Sheng Yan had been pressing Gu Lu down, his fists so fast he nearly pinned her to the ground, raining blows like "wula wula."
A single small mistake had plunged Sheng Yan into irreversible doom—that's Gu Lu: her strength isn't great, her speed not fast, she lacks flashy abilities, but if she seizes even a sliver of opportunity, her opponent may have no chance to turn the tide.
Without doubt, dragging Sheng Yan while leaping between buildings made Gu Lu very happy—but her opponent Sheng Yan carried a large psychological shadow, for a simple reason: the barbs embedded in his neck were actually growing, absorbing his blood and spreading through his blood vessels like vines drilling inward.
If it were any other contractor, facing this they might not collapse but would surely despair; Gu Lu's methods are truly vicious—this isn't combat, it's torture inflicted on the enemy.
"Ah!!!"
Sheng Yan roared in anger; hearing this, Gu Lu was slightly surprised—his mouth could still move, indicating his toxin resistance was strong.
Gu Lu pulled out a large anti-tank mine, used her mouth to pull the pin, and silently counted down.
After 4 seconds, Gu Lu threw the anti-tank mine; a huge roar came from behind her, and that furious roar vanished.
With a tearing sound, the noise of flesh being ripped open entered Gu Lu's ears; she tightened the fiber thread, and on the legendary dagger hung a large slab of flesh—Sheng Yan's entire back and occiput had been torn away.
"Not tough enough; this time I'll let you go."
Gu Lu tossed the flesh aside, hurried forward, leaping between buildings—she didn't want to be swept into the tsunami.
After Sheng Yan sacrificed one-quarter of his muscles and one-third of his skin, he learned a lesson: the brats in the Reincarnation Paradise are not to be trifled with, especially those whose minds seem abnormal.
The tsunami nearly surged to the center of Luobei City before beginning to recede—don't think it ends like this; this is merely the first wave.
The seawater gradually receded, leaving vast amounts of building debris in the city center; in an instant, this place became a garbage dump.
Corpses of numerous marine creatures littered the streets; a fully scarred orca floundered in the wreckage.
"Cough cough cough..."
A dry cough came from within the debris; a metal arm protruded from the rubble, and soon, a drenched black wasp crawled out from the stones—he had prior injuries, was swept into the tsunami, and was directly knocked unconscious by a concrete slab in the flood.
"I survived... that monster..."
The black wasp, alive against all odds, laughed, stood up, and over a dozen elemental wasp corpses fell from his clothing—it was the hundreds of elemental wasps on his body that had protected him.
"Thank you."
The black wasp picked up the elemental wasps from the ground, storing them in his storage space; his profession is somewhat like a fusion of summoner and spatial mage—he can summon only one type of creature: elemental wasps, initially weak, but growing stronger by devouring powerful foes.
The black wasp clasped his hands, intending to use spatial ability; moments later, the pallid black wasp gasped heavily, many elemental wasps dead, plus his existing injuries—he cannot use spatial ability for a short time.
Realizing this, the black wasp rushed forward into the building complex and quickly disappeared.
Pa-ta.
A frog leapt from a building down to where the black wasp had been.
With a bang, the frog exploded into a puff of white smoke; minutes later, a figure arrived nearby.
"This is the place, no mistake, boss—I've found the target's trail."
The newcomer swiftly formed hand seals.
"Spirit Communication Technique!"
Bang.
White smoke rose, and several twisted-shaped strange birds appeared.
……
Half an hour later, in Luobei City, the farthest point from the coast.
In a narrow alley, several trash cans stood side by side, with a figure lying atop them; cold rain slapped the black wasp's face, his eyes opened.
"Not bad."
The black wasp sat up, tried to move his bones and joints—the visceral dull pain had vanished; the newly born elemental wasps, though not strong in combat, could activate his spatial ability.
Just as the black wasp thought victory was in sight, a howling sound came from above.
Boom!
Soaring firelight surged within the rain, several buildings with cracked exteriors exploded and collapsed.
Smoke and dust were quickly pressed down by the rain; the black wasp, face covered in mud and water, stood amidst the rubble, his confidence restored as before.
Leather shoes crushed glass shards, the people's teacher stepped over the wreckage of the building, and walked slowly toward the black bee.
"A lingering spirit."
If the black bee were to rank its enemies, the first would be a woman named Xi, who brought the black bee comfort in that she had already died in the previous world war, reportedly blown to pieces, which made the black bee feel somewhat incredulous; as for the second, it was the people's teacher.
"You seem not to enjoy fighting me, which may be what is called aversion."
The people's teacher remained emotionally unmoved, like a killing machine.
"Who would be willing to fight to the death with someone like you, paralyzed in the face?"
The black bee smiled, able to leave at any moment using spatial abilities, so he did not care about the people's teacher's terrifying combat power.
