Chapter 1698: Secret Code

Blood spread under Lucas. It had to be said that the constitution of an Awakened was very strong. Lucas took over a dozen slashes from Su Xiao on his chest and abdomen before falling. The black mist beside him could heal wounds at a very fast speed. This was, after all, a world above Lv. 40, or rather, the Ghoul world already had the difficulty of an early-stage Tier 5 derived world.

Facts proved that catching a living witness wasn't simple. Unless there was a capability restraint, it was unlikely for Su Xiao to capture Lucas, an Awakened with an awakening degree of over 90%, alive.

Pfft!

Checking Zhan Long Shan left his hand and pierced through Lucas's right arm. The sharp cone formed by black mist in the other party's hand dissipated.

"Who are you."

Lucas didn't beg for mercy, or rather, he hadn't prepared to go back alive today. Even if he succeeded in assassinating Su Xiao, he couldn't live.

"Lucas, you moved into Zuer City, and I even paid to help you set up property. Returning kindness with enmity is not your style."

Su Xiao stepped on the hilt of Checking Zhan Long Shan, and the long sword slowly pierced into the ground. Hearing his words, Lucas had confusion and surprise in his eyes.

"Legion Commander, give me a quick death. I won't..."

Drip, drip, drip.

Three crisp electronic sounds came. The Endless Darkness collar in Su Xiao's hand lit up with three indicator lights. This meant he had set it for 3 seconds. With Lucas's awakening degree, his mental state was unstable. If he demonized during the interrogation, it would be a joke.

Without any nonsense, Su Xiao threw the metal collar in his hand. The collar clicked and locked onto Lucas's neck.

1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds.

Ding!

The Endless Darkness collar popped open. Lucas's mouth opened wide, and he took a deep breath, making a wheezing sound in his throat.

"Give you 20 seconds to consider. 20 seconds, then the next round."

"Ghost... Ring."

Lucas said these two words with trembling lips, but at the same time, the pupil of his left eye began to change, becoming pitch black, as if the eyeball had been stained with ink.

"Kill me... I don't want to... become that kind of thing."

Lucas's left hand gripped his own throat. He was trying to commit suicide because... he was demonizing.

The process of an Awakened turning into a demon was irreversible. Most Awakened would choose to commit suicide during this process. The reason was simple: during the transformation into a demon, their consciousness would die. When they fully turned into a demon, it was actually equivalent to the death of that Awakened, and a new consciousness was born—a non-human consciousness.

"Where are they."

Su Xiao spoke urgently, while gripping the hilt of Checking Zhan Long Shan, ready to solve Lucas with one slash at any time.

"They are in Zuer City, they are... among us..."

Lucas's left eye became pitch black, and that blackness gradually spread to his right eye. He seemed to hear his own heartbeat, like thunder.

With a swish, the long sword slashed across Lucas's neck, and a head flew up. The pitch-black eyes quickly recovered, and faint wailing could be heard.

【You killed the traitor, Lucas.】

【The traitor, Lucas, was an Awakened. You obtained 0.7% of the World Source. You currently have 0.7% of the World Source.】

【Your talent, "Soul Eater," has been activated, permanently increasing mana by 30 points.】

【You obtained Secret Code: Smoke (Chest-type item, can be embedded into the Secret Code).】

【The Secret Code has been activated and can be opened at any time.】

Seeing the amount of World Source obtained after killing Lucas, Su Xiao frowned. The World Source was too little. Lucas was definitely not a small fry; this guy was at least a small boss level. The strength of an Awakened who could turn into a demon was imaginable.

One must know that demons were all big bosses, each with at least the combat power of a 10-eye Ghoul. 10-eye Ghoul = Tier 4 contractor. As for Ghouls with over 15 eyes, even if Su Xiao encountered one, he would consider how to escape. Even opening the Demon Hunter Moment wouldn't be a match for that kind of Ghoul.

Undoubtedly, if he wanted to obtain an S+ rating in the Ghoul world, simply completing the promotion mission wasn't enough. Of course, Su Xiao wouldn't force it. He would only try his best to improve the rating. Although the 100-point attribute Demon-Slaying Shadow ability was very tempting, the acquisition path was too difficult. Su Xiao was psychologically prepared that he might not be able to obtain that kind of ability, or rather, the probability of him obtaining it was actually not high.

Compared to the World Source, the chest-type item dropped by Lucas was very interesting, named 【Secret Code: Smoke】. This was a pitch-black card. Su Xiao could choose to open it as a chest or embed it into the Secret Code.

A book half a meter high, with black-gold patterns outlined on the surface, appeared in front of Su Xiao. This book had a metal cover and was at least ten centimeters thick. This was the 【Secret Code】, entirely composed of unknown energy. All contractors entering the Ghoul world this time could summon the Secret Code, or rather, this was one of the characteristics of the reward world.

The Secret Code opened, and the pages flipped rapidly. When the pages stopped, a prompt from Reincarnation Paradise appeared.

【Yes/No to embed "Smoke" into the Secret Code? If embedded, the Hunter can obtain 30 Secret Code Merits.】

【The Hunter can use "Secret Code Merits" to exchange for other chest-type items in the Secret Code.】

Su Xiao understood the function of the Secret Code. Just on the page Su Xiao saw, there were over a dozen card-like patterns, written with: Bite, Immovable, Death Snake, Gaze, etc.

These card-like patterns were all chest-type items. Because they were on the same page, their exchange price was 30 Secret Code Merits.

The Secret Code was definitely a good thing. The chest-type item 【Smoke】 obtained by Su Xiao was clearly biased toward spell-type chests. After all, Lucas's ability was biased toward the bizarre, manipulating that black smoke at medium-to-close range.

Mage-type chests, of course, had a higher probability of producing spell-type items. For Su Xiao, who had no affinity for spell-type abilities, the value of this chest was relatively low.

Su Xiao could exchange for other types of chests through the Secret Code, such as "Immovable" or "Gaze," which were more suitable for Su Xiao than Black Smoke.

The Secret Code had an even greater function, which was to accumulate Secret Code Merits to purchase the 10 types of chest-type items on the first page.

1. 【Ghost Treasure】, requires 450 Secret Code Merits, base reward: Soul Crystal (Complete) x5, upper limit reward:???

2. 【Greed】, requires 420 Secret Code Merits, base reward: Random Epic-grade equipment, upper limit reward:???

3. 【Plant Essence】, requires 400 Secret Code Merits, base reward: Undying Wine (Permanent buff potion), upper limit reward:???

4. 【Exquisite】, requires 375 Secret Code Merits, base reward: Master-level basic ability scroll (random ability), upper limit reward:???

There were 10 chests in total, and the resources produced were all good things. The 【Ghost Treasure】 ranked first had a guaranteed reward of five Soul Crystals (Complete). The so-called guarantee meant that no matter how unlucky one was, one could open five Soul Crystals (Complete). If one was lucky, it could be 10, or even 20.

1 Soul Crystal (Complete) was almost equivalent to 1 level of Sword Master. Therefore, Su Xiao was determined to get the Ghost Treasure. If he could open 10 Soul Crystals (Complete), that would be a windfall.

However, it wasn't just Su Xiao who could exchange for the Ghost Treasure. As long as the Secret Code Merits were sufficient, all contractors in the Ghoul world could exchange for it. Moreover, there was only 1 of each of the top ten chests, first come, first served. ===== CHAPTER 1699 =====
