In an abandoned large warehouse, a large group of ghouls were fighting against the CCG.

“No, boss, our rear escape route is blocked.”

A dense volley of gunfire rang out. Su Xiao stood behind a tall concrete pillar, the surface of which was pelted by bullets, kicking up clouds of dust.

Shinodo Akira slumped against the pillar, staring in disbelief at the site of the explosion.

Itakura grinned proudly and handed the ballistic shield to Su Xiao.

The shield was entirely black, about 1.4 meters tall, with a rectangular observation slit near the upper center, fitted with ballistic glass.

“White Night Boss, this is the Chinese-made FXF6-T blast shield—Level 6 ballistic protection! It can defend against all firearms except heavy sniper rifles.”

Su Xiao took the shield—it was heavy in his hands, solid and reliable.

“Everyone, listen up! I’ll create an opening—prepare to eliminate these ghouls!”

Su Xiao raised the ballistic shield in his left hand and drew his blade in his right, charging out from behind the pillar.

“Brrt, brrt, brrt!”

Through the ballistic glass on the shield, Su Xiao saw a row of enemy firearms—dark muzzles spitting fire, firing volley after volley of bullets.

“Bang, bang, bang.”

A hail of bullets struck the ballistic shield.

Su Xiao’s forward momentum slowed under the relentless impact.

Each bullet carried significant force—let alone dozens, even hundreds at once.

Seeing Su Xiao charge forward with the ballistic shield, the ghoul leader was startled.

He recognized Su Xiao—the man who had killed six of his subordinates in mere seconds with close-range combat.

The ghoul leader dressed like a mercenary and was an exceptionally accurate shooter.

“Stop him! Don’t let him break through our line!”

The scar on the mercenary ghoul’s face twitched; as if suddenly remembering something, a cruel smile curled his lips. He reached behind him, found a weapon over two meters long, and raised it—a sniper rifle.

“I’ll make you regret blocking.”

The mercenary ghoul’s eyes glinted with malice; his finger was about to pull the trigger—no aiming needed at this range.

Su Xiao saw this through the ballistic glass but showed no reaction.

The Dragon’s Slash vanished, retracting into his storage space; Su Xiao pulled a fist-sized iron ball from his lower back.

“Click.”

A crisp metallic clink echoed as Su Xiao tossed the metal ball near the mercenary ghoul.

Roll, roll, roll~—the iron ball rolled among the ghouls’ feet.

“Damn it!”

The mercenary ghoul cursed, dropped his sniper rifle, curled his body into a ball, and his kakugan erupted, wrapping him entirely.

“Boom!”

A burst of fire spread through the large warehouse; dust rained down from the ceiling.

Shrapnel pelted Su Xiao’s ballistic shield with a rapid patter.

It was a high-explosive grenade—Su Xiao had applied for it twice at CCG headquarters, and they’d reluctantly approved it.

Most of the ghoul faction’s firepower ceased at once; a smell of burning flesh filled the air.

Plop—a torn, half-leg landed before Su Xiao, its stump charred black, flames still licking the shredded pant leg.

At Su Xiao’s command, the investigators charged out from their cover.

Su Xiao led the charge, sprinting at the front.

The mercenary ghoul staggered to his feet, dazed, looking around blindly—his kakugan was shredded, blood oozed from his ears, and he was in shock.

Before the mercenary ghoul could recover, Su Xiao was already before him, slashing his neck without mercy, then turning away without a glance to search for other ghouls.

The battle reversed in an instant; what had been a stalemate became a one-sided massacre within moments.

Half an hour later, only humans remained alive in the warehouse.

Su Xiao sat on a broken chair to rest; after enduring the gunfire, the chair had only three legs left, making it uncomfortable to sit on.

The investigators began gathering the ghoul corpses together.

“White Night First Class, ghoul cleanup complete: 147 ghouls eliminated. Our side…”

After hearing the battle report, Su Xiao nodded, signaling Shinodo Akira to handle the aftermath.

Tomorrow, Shinohara Yukki would be transferred to District 20; Su Xiao had already cleared every ghoul he could find.
