Chapter 94: Bone-Chilling Cold

~6 min read 1,157 words

Su Xiao picked up the Hezi on the ground, and the Lunhuileyuan prompt appeared.

Kakuhou (SSS-class)

Origin: Tokyo Ghoul

Quality: Green

Type: Material

Rating: 24 (Note: Green items are rated 10 to 30.)

Description: Kōzen Higurashi’s Kakuhou, usable for equipment forging or implantation into the body; {after implantation, there is a 10% chance of becoming a Ghoul, 89% chance of death, 1% chance of unknown mutation.}

Price: 2500 Paradise Coins

……

Although the Manager was not captured, he obtained the Manager’s Kakuhou.

SSS-class Kakuhou are rare in the Ghoul world, obtainable only in the bodies of extremely few Ghouls.

The Manager lost one Kakuja, but that does not mean he lost his combat power.

Like the Manager, such Kakusha possess multiple Kakuhou; the Manager has eight, while his daughter Takatsuki Izumi—also known as Kōzen Aito—has ten.

Su Xiao stored the Hebao in his storage space; it’s valuable enough that even without taking it to the CCG headquarters to forge into a Quinque, he could sell it within the Lunhuileyuan .

Su Xiao had previously asked: forging a Quinque requires at least 3000 Contribution Points.

What he lacked most right now was Contribution Points, so he wouldn’t forge a Quinque.

Materials, though cheaper than finished weapons, are easier to sell.

Finished weapons have limitations; carrying weapon forging materials allows one to seek out craftsmen to forge specific weapons.

Su Xiao planned to store these valuable materials and sell them one by one for Paradise Coins upon returning to the Lunhuileyuan .

“Boom…”

The building of the Bronze Tree base collapsed again, but wouldn’t fall completely for now.

The CCG had breached the Bronze Tree base and expelled most of the Ghouls; over 400 of the 500+ Ghouls inside—excluding the Bronze Tree’s core—were eliminated, with only a few survivors.

“Hurry, evacuate the Bronze Tree base, quickly!”

Maru Te’s roar echoed through the combat channel—it was a public channel, and only Maru Te, as battlefield commander, had authority to speak.

“Shiroya, are you alright?”

Shinohara Kōki was being supported as he walked over; “Shin” had badly injured him.

“I’m fine, won’t die anytime soon.”

Su Xiao stood up, and immediate searing pain shot through his lower abdomen.

“Let’s retreat. This operation is over—we won.”

Shinohara Kōki and the man supporting him, Kuroiwa Iwa, both smiled; victory meant reclaiming District 11, restoring it to human control.

“Senior Kuroiwa, Team Two issued an emergency distress call—they’re under a small-scale Ghoul counterattack, about sixty Ghouls.”

Kuroiwa Iwa’s expression changed; he immediately helped Shinohara Kōki down the stairs to provide backup.

Amon and Hiraishi Jō, less severely injured, had already gone to assist.

Su Xiao clutched his lower abdomen and walked slowly forward; the wound was serious, not fatal but impairing his combat ability.

As Su Xiao prepared to leave the balcony, two figures leapt from rooftops in the distance.

Judging by their direction, they weren’t here to trouble him—just passing through.

Too far to see clearly, Su Xiao squinted, staring at the two figures—actually three.

The one in front was a man of average build, white-haired, wearing a mask revealing only one eye, carrying a blue-haired girl on his back.

“That’s… Kaneki Ken?”

Behind Kaneki Ken was a yellow-eyed man—his senior, Nishio Kinkaku.

Kaneki Ken had completed his transformation, evolving from a former waste into a Ghoul of S to SS rank.

Unfortunately, Kaneki Ken’s path led directly past Su Xiao.

Kaneki Ken glanced at Su Xiao from afar, unbothered; he recognized him as a CCG investigator and noticed his injuries.

Kaneki’s eyes were utterly blank, pupils dull and lifeless.

“Be careful…”

Dongxiang, on Kaneki’s back, recognized Su Xiao and whispered weakly.

Dongxiang had recently encountered her brother, who beat her severely; though he didn’t kill her, she was badly hurt.

“Kaneki, stop. Don’t get close to that human.”

Kaneki halted, looking at Nishio Kinkaku in confusion.

“This guy is the CCG’s Black God. A terrifying bastard.”

Nishio Kinkaku scanned the surroundings, searching for an alternate escape route—but Su Xiao blocked their only path.

“It’s fine. He’s badly injured.”

Kaneki continued forward, keeping his peripheral vision locked on Su Xiao to avoid a ranged ambush.

“Arrogant brat—I’m still a CCG investigator, and you’re just strolling right past me?”

Su Xiao’s gaze turned dangerous; the evening breeze stirred his short hair.

If Kaneki Ken and the others hadn’t passed near him, he wouldn’t have cared—but their brazen attitude made Su Xiao’s fingers itch.

Su Xiao stood at the center of the rooftop, which was over twenty meters wide; Kaneki Ken and the others needed to cross this rooftop to leap to the adjacent building and escape.

Why not escape through the building below? Because dozens of CCG officers filled the lower floors; even strengthened, Kaneki Ken was no match for them.

There were over a thousand CCG officers—Kaneki Ken wouldn’t dare face them, nor would Takatsuki Izumi.

The two sides drew closer: twenty meters, fifteen meters, ten meters.

Su Xiao held Zhanlongshan in one hand, the other pressed against his lower abdomen, blood seeping through his fingers.

“Drip… drip…”

Blood dripped onto the rooftop; Su Xiao appeared to have given up, standing motionless without attacking Kaneki’s group.

As Kaneki approached within six meters, Su Xiao’s lips faintly curled into a smile.

Dongxiang, crouched behind Kaneki, saw Su Xiao’s smile.

In that instant, Dongxiang felt a bone-chilling cold—as if stripped bare and curled naked before that man.

“Run…”

Before Dongxiang could scream, Su Xiao moved.

He stomped the ground hard, enduring the agony in his lower abdomen, and closed the distance in three strides.

Zhanlongshan sliced through the air with a mournful whine.

“Squelch.”

A spray of blood shot high, along with several strands of white hair.

Su Xiao’s blade struck Kaneki’s cheek; the pain in his abdomen slowed his strike—otherwise, he would have severed Kaneki’s head.

Kaneki staggered back several steps, a gash appearing on his mask.

Only now did Kaneki realize Su Xiao had reached him—and that he was wounded.

“Pity. Didn’t decapitate him.”

Crimson blood seeped between Su Xiao’s fingers; his previous attack had aggravated his lower abdomen wound.

After heavy breathing, Su Xiao looked at Kaneki.

“You think you can just stroll past me like this? How naive.”

Even wounded, Su Xiao was confident he could eliminate Kaneki and his two companions.

Kaneki’s wound healed rapidly; he set Dongxiang down.

“Senior Nishio, protect Dongxiang. I’ll deal with this investigator.”

Nishio Kinkaku unleashed his Kakuja, positioning himself before Dongxiang.

“Kaneki, let’s run. Don’t fight this human—it’s too dangerous.”

Su Xiao’s lethal strike moments ago had filled Dongxiang with dread.

“It’s fine. I’m not who I was before. I’ll protect those I care about. Everyone must sacrifice something to protect what matters. Now, only by killing him can I protect you.”

Kaneki didn’t want to flee—Su Xiao’s ghostlike speed had shown him that running only meant dying faster.

Combat erupted: wounded Su Xiao versus Kaneki Ken.

Even wounded, a tiger remains a tiger.
