Chapter 553: Consent Form? Signing this left me dazed!

~7 min read 1,325 words

In the three-way interrogation, Chen Shaokang's side got the results first.

There were no doubts at all.

She had confessed to Lin Dongfan the way she told Wen Ting; later she gave her statement accordingly, without any tricks, and she was striving to align her position with Lin Dongfan.

The other interrogation result was heartbreaking, just like the sky falling.

Around nine in the evening.

Lin Dongfan returned to the Provincial Anti-Corruption Bureau, where he saw the overtime-working Jian Sining and Peng Tianhua; their dejected expressions were as if they had lost their parents.

Ah, wrong… you can't 'lose' parents; it's like holding in urine, feeling uncomfortable.

"What's going on?" Lin Dongfan asked the two, puzzled: "Did the unit forget to give you your year-end benefits? Or did you mess up my anti-corruption plan?"

"Uh… this…"

Peng Tianhua was as fat as a grandson today, he turned his head and glanced at Jian Sining: "Your senior brother is asking you a question—did you mess up his anti-corruption plan?"

"You make it sound like your side had no problems."

Jian Sining gave him a small white-eye roll, feeling depressed inside; today should be a black day on the yellow calendar, everyone underestimated the villain's intelligence.

He collected himself for a moment.

Jian Sining steeled herself and told Lin Dongfan: "The director of the Respiratory Department at Renmin Yiyuan, Yang Tingjian, admitted he performed a lung transplant on Qiao Lianzhou's son, but he said the organ source was legal."

"Legal?"

Lin Dongfan thought he had misheard, and waited for Jian Sining's explanation.

Jian Sining took out a photocopy from her briefcase and handed it directly to Lin Dongfan. Black text on white paper, with a bold heading at the top: "Human Organ Unpaid Donation Consent Form."

In the signature field for relatives at the lower right, the name signed was Huang Xiuju.

Although the three characters "Huang Xiuju" were written in a childish, shaky hand, the strokes were clear and legible, and a bright red fingerprint was pressed above the name.

"What the hell is going on?!"

The composure on Lin Dongfan's face froze instantly.

Bewildered and speechless!

One moment he was calculating how to send Qiao Lianzhou and He Zhiqiang to the execution ground; the next he felt as depressed as Jian Sining and Peng Tianhua, down to his grandmother's house.

Damn it!

Was I being played by a plot twist?

Lin Dongfan frowned and pressed: "Where did this come from? Did Huang Xiuju sign it? Did she agree to donate her son's lung? Impossible! She kicked up a fuss just to get justice for her son."

Jian Sining remained silent, not knowing what to say.

Peng Tianhua said glumly: "This is the most sinister part of the whole matter—now not only can Yang Tingjian rely on this consent form to avoid liability, but Qiao Lianzhou's wife Jiang Lin also relies on it to fly into a rage, claiming her old Qiao has become a vegetable, while we're still racking our brains to frame them, saying they'll sue us."

"Have the handwriting and fingerprint on this been verified?" Lin Dongfan doubted.

Jian Sining replied: "Yang Tingjian presented a photocopy, saying the original is in the hospital archives. Since he went to such trouble to prepare it, I guess this consent form isn't fake."

"The key is that Jiang Lin now wants to rely on our abuse of power and retaliation."

Peng Tianhua glanced at Lin Dongfan's solemn face.

He continued:

"That little tramp Jiang Lin—when we investigated earlier, we indeed found she was fooling around with a gym trainer behind Qiao Lianzhou's back."

The morning Qiao Lianzhou committed suicide.

She also packed her suitcase and moved back to her parents' home, as if the marital relationship had broken.

Now we've summoned her to have her explain Qiao Lianzhou's illegal operations, not to ask her to return her son's lung to the victim.

Theoretically, if she were on bad terms with Qiao Lianzhou, she should actively cooperate with us.

But now she's actually speaking up for Qiao Zhou.

You didn't see—when we questioned her just now, she cried like a tearful person, and I really can't tell if this is a split personality or she has some other motive.

Hearing this, Lin Dongfan also felt two heads big.

This round of villains' intelligence is kinda high!

Just as Lin Dongfan was wondering what to do next, a staff member came over to report: "Section Chief Jian, the person you wanted to summon has been brought."

"Have her come in."

Jian Sining had finished speaking less than ten seconds ago when the staff member brought the person in—the very party to the medical case, Huang Xiuju.

After recuperating for two days at the Provincial Committee Reception Center, Huang Xiuju's complexion had improved somewhat.

However, upon seeing that Lin Dongfan, Peng Tianhua, Jian Sining, and the others didn't look good either, Huang Xiuju was still a bit nervous.

She seemed to exude weakness and inferiority from her bones, standing up front afraid to speak.

Jian Sining handed the photocopy of the "Human Organ Unpaid Donation Consent Form" to her, patiently asking: "Sister Huang, is this your own signature and fingerprint?"

"This… seems to be my signature…"

Huang Xiuju didn't look at the document's content; her eyes were fixed only on the signature and fingerprint at the lower right.

Lin Dongfan puzzledly pressed: "Sister Huang, if you agreed to donate your son's organs, what was all that fuss earlier about?"

Everyone's gaze gathered on Huang Xiuju.

Huang Xiuju, questioned, first looked bewildered, then quickly recalled the painful memory, tears in her eyes: "Director Lin, I didn't agree—I didn't even know they had removed my son's organs."

This time, it was Lin Dongfan and the others who looked bewildered.

Jian Sining asked: "Then what's going on with this signature?"

"I signed this," Huang Xiuju said, gazing at the signature at the lower right, recalling carefully: "The day my son had surgery, the hospital nurse told me to sign my name. The nurse said everyone undergoing surgery had to sign something… like a surgical risk consent form. She said if you didn't sign it, you couldn't have the surgery."

Jian Sining pointed at the document's title in her hand: "Look closely—this is the 'Human Organ Unpaid Donation Consent Form,' not the 'Surgical Risk Consent Form.'"

"This…"

Huang Xiuju lifted her eyes to glance at the prominent large characters at the top of the document.

Again he weakly shook his head: "I don't know… that day the nurse asked me to sign; I was afraid my son wouldn't be able to have the surgery, so I signed…"

"Big sister, you can't read?" Peng Tianhua asked doubtfully.

Huang Xiangju lowered her head and wiped away a tear of grievance, her voice choking: "I can only write my own name; that's what my son taught me; I've never studied…"

Most likely she was thinking of her son again; having lost her son in middle age, the grief is unbearable.

Lin Dongfan handed a tissue to Huang Xiangju, comforting: "Ms. Huang, this isn't your fault. Go back to the guesthouse to rest; we'll call you if anything comes up."

Huang Xiangju took the tissue and wiped her eyes.

After her emotions stabilized.

She gathered her courage again and asked Lin Dongfan: "Director Lin, I understand now—did the hospital staff trick me into signing the organ donation consent form?"

"If you say they tricked you, they'll just turn around and say they didn't." Lin Dongfan said helplessly: "Your signature and seal are on this document; how can you prove you were tricked? You need evidence."

Huang Xiangju was momentarily speechless, then lowered her head and wiped her tears again.

Fan Ye doesn't like to see people cry.

How annoying!

Fan Ye turned his back to Huang Xiangju: "Go back first; although the other side has dug a fairly deep pit, I believe we can get through it."
