Chapter 37: Baron Carter

~8 min read 1,409 words

Baron Carter paced restlessly in the room, his fat body hiding his sinister and cunning heart.

The contract stipulated that he could not invade Roko's territory.

But that didn't mean he couldn't use other methods!

A hint of gloom flashed in Baron Carter's eyes.

He began to carefully recall all the information about Roko Raymond.

Right!

He remembered!

That son of the Earl named Wei Er Ke Weila!

When Roko first arrived in Prada City, he gave that Wei Er Ke a show of force outside the teleportation array.

With Wei Er Ke's arrogant personality, he would definitely hold a grudge!

This person could be utilized!

A sinister grin appeared on Baron Carter's face.

However, the energy of a mere Wei Er Ke, who had been semi-exiled by his family, was still too small.

Even adding himself, wanting to shake Roko, who had the support of two barons, and that gold mine with not-so-weak defensive strength, was still somewhat insufficient.

He needed a more powerful helper!

An ally with a background not weaker than, or even stronger than, the Raymond family!

Baron Carter narrowed his eyes, searching the power map of Xin Feng Province.

Soon, a name surfaced in his mind.

The Baron Lord of Black Stone Territory in the central region of Xin Feng Province, Ao Ge Si Scott!

Although Ao Ge Si was only an ordinary baron in Xin Feng Province.

But his family was an old Marquis family of the Black Kingdom!

Its power and foundation were definitely not inferior to the Raymond family!

Moreover, this Baron Ao Ge Si was famous for his greed and unscrupulous methods.

If he could be brought over...

Baron Carter became more excited the more he thought about it, the greed on his face becoming increasingly intense.

He immediately walked to the desk, took out two sheets of fine parchment, and personally picked up his pen to write two letters that were cryptically worded but full of temptation.

After finishing the letters, he sealed them with wax and stamped them with his lizard crest.

"Someone come!"

The butler hurried in.

"Master."

"Go call Morris for me!"

Soon, Morris arrived at the study.

After the previous blow, he appeared somewhat more composed, but deep in his eyes still hid resentment.

Baron Carter handed the two letters to his son.

"Morris, I need you to make a trip yourself."

"Deliver one letter to Black Stone Territory and give it to Baron Ao Ge Si."

"Find a way to deliver the other to Wei Er Ke."

"You must hand them to them personally, and act secretly; no one can know!"

Morris took the letters, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes at the unfamiliar names, but he still respectfully agreed.

"Yes, Father."

"Go."

Baron Carter waved his hand, his eyes flashing with sinister light.

Roko Raymond, do you think that with your uncles supporting you and the Kingdom contract protecting you, you can sit back and relax?

Just wait!

The good show has only just begun!

Another few days passed.

The construction of Vanguard Valley was in full swing, with new changes every day.

Roko took Fula and walked within the budding territory.

In the distance, the foundation of the castle had been rammed solid, and the sturdy gray stone walls were extending upward section by section.

It was like the skeleton of a giant beast, growing slowly under the labor of dozens of craftsmen and a large number of laborers.

"The progress is faster than expected."

Roko looked at the busy scene before him, his gaze revealing satisfaction.

Fula followed him quietly, her silver-gray cat ears twitching slightly, capturing the sounds around them.

Those heterochromatic eyes curiously sized up the outline of the castle rising from the ground.

She gave a light "mm," a hint of wonder on her small face.

For her, all of this was so novel.

Roko turned his head, looking at the little cat-kin girl's focused appearance, a smile appearing unconsciously at the corner of his mouth.

He reached out his hand, habitually wanting to ruffle her ears.

Fula seemed to have anticipated it; her small ears trembled lightly, a blush appearing on her cheeks, but she did not dodge.

Just then, Hart's steady footsteps came from not far away.

"Young Master."

Hart came before Roko and bowed slightly.

"Young Master Ferdinand Corbin's slave-catching team has arrived outside the valley again."

Ferdinand?

Roko raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.

This young master of the Corbin family seemed to treat Vanguard Valley as a fixed stop on his route.

"Understood."

Roko withdrew the hand he was preparing to stroke Fula with, a hint of imperceptible disappointment flashing in her eyes, but she quickly returned to calm.

"Fula, let's go take a look."

"Alright, Master."

Roko took Fula and walked toward the valley entrance.

From afar, one could see the familiar team, dozens of knights escorting a large number of carriages with cages, the Corbin family flag fluttering in the wind.

Ferdinand Corbin clearly saw Roko as well and immediately dismounted, walking quickly to meet him.

When he saw the current scene of Vanguard Valley, a look of surprise involuntarily appeared in his eyes.

When he came last time, this was just a slightly messy large camp.

But now, orderly roads, constantly built wooden and stone houses, and the foundation of the castle in the distance that was already quite substantial.

And the more rigorous defensive strength that was visible to the naked eye.

All these changes had happened in just over a month.

The speed at which this young master of the Raymond family developed his territory was simply too astonishing.

"Young Master Roko!"

The smile on Ferdinand's face was more enthusiastic and sincere than last time, and his posture was lower.

"It's been a while, the changes in Vanguard Valley are truly astonishing!"

This compliment was heartfelt.

"You're too kind, it's just a small endeavor."

Roko responded indifferently, his gaze calm.

The two exchanged a few pleasantries.

Not long after, a petite figure clutching a scroll of animal-skin map ran out from the camp.

Snow-white long hair, snow-white fox ears, it was Martina.

She seemed to be about to report something to Roko, but her footsteps paused slightly when she saw Ferdinand.

Those pure white eyes swept over Ferdinand, carrying a hint of imperceptible vigilance and coldness.

Ferdinand also noticed this Snow Fox girl with a unique temperament.

During the last transaction, he seemed to have given her to Roko as a "gift."

He didn't expect this little fox to have such a high status now.

Ferdinand could feel the faint hostility in Martina's gaze, but he didn't care.

The main purpose of his trip was to follow his family's instructions and try to build a good relationship with Roko Raymond, this young master of the Marquis with huge potential.

A young noble with strength, background, and an astonishing development speed.

Was definitely worth investing in.

"Young Master Roko, I've brought another batch of good goods this time, would you like to take a look?"

Ferdinand quickly turned his attention back to business and introduced them enthusiastically.

The cages were opened, and the slaves were driven out, standing in several rows on the open ground.

Kobolds and goblins were still the most numerous, accounting for nearly half; they cowered, their eyes filled with fear.

The other half were of various types.

There were humans, mostly sallow and emaciated, their expressions numb.

There were a few dwarves, bearded and unkempt, but their eyes were still quite tough.

A few green-skinned goblins were chattering and discussing something in low voices.

A few chailangren were baring their teeth, scanning their surroundings vigilantly.

There were even two elves.

A man and a woman, their appearance was indeed handsome, but their faces were pale, and they were wearing shackles, looking quite pathetic.

Elf slaves were rare items and expensive.

However, Roko's gaze did not linger too long on the elves.

His attention was drawn by a particularly conspicuous figure in the team.

It was a minotaur.

Nearly two and a half meters tall, his physique was astonishingly robust, his bronze skin covering knotted muscles, as if carved from rock.

Even though he was wearing tattered prison clothes and heavy shackles, he still exuded a powerful sense of oppression.

He lowered his head, his expression unclear.

But those broad shoulders and thick limbs all signaled the terrifying power contained within. ===== CHAPTER 38 =====
