Chapter 65: Attack, attack!

~7 min read 1,264 words

Deep inside an extremely secluded canyon, over a hundred miles away from Vanguard Valley.

Kagerosh was trudging forward with the three hundred most elite Kobold warriors he had handpicked, along with his most trusted Guard Captain, Geluomu.

This path was even harder to traverse than he had imagined.

The steep cliffs, the slippery moss, and the venomous snakes and fierce beasts that darted out from the forest from time to time all brought significant trouble to their march.

Yet, Kagerosh's mood was not too bad.

He looked back at his clansmen behind him, who were carrying heavy packs yet still walking with steady strides, a trace of smugness flashing in his eyes.

These packs were filled with the most valuable spoils from their southward plundering this time.

A large amount of gold, silver, and jewelry, precious magic materials, and even a few exquisite art pieces looted from human noble castles.

As long as he could bring these things safely back to the Orc Wasteland, he would have enough capital to grease the palms of the big shots in the Orc Kingdom and secure a better future for himself.

Escaping the fate of being cannon fodder was just around the corner.

"Commander, have we shaken off those human pursuers?"

Geluomu wiped the sweat from his face and asked, panting heavily.

Kagerosh sneered.

"Those stupid humans are probably still keeping their eyes on our 'main force' that retreated with such fanfare."

"They would never imagine that our true essence would slip away through this damn mountain path."

A hint of cunning flashed in his eyes.

"However, we cannot be careless."

"Pick up the pace; let's try to pass through the 'Yixiantian' canyon ahead before dark."

"Once we pass that, the road ahead will be much easier to travel, and it will be harder for us to be discovered."

"Yes! Commander!"

Geluomu immediately turned back to urge the troops to speed up.

They did not know that an invisible net was already being quietly cast ahead of them.

The sun gradually tilted to the west.

Bake and his scouts moved through the mountain forest like ghosts.

They were worthy of being the top trackers in Roko Territory.

Relying on the faint traces left by the Kobolds and their familiarity with the terrain of this mountain region, they managed to bite firmly onto the tail of Kagerosh's small unit.

"Captain, they are indeed heading toward 'Yixiantian'!"

A young scout reported to Bake in a low voice.

His face carried a hint of excitement and nervousness.

Bake's gaze tightened.

"Yixiantian..."

That was a canyon with extremely dangerous terrain, with cliffs towering into the clouds on both sides and a narrow passage in the middle that could only accommodate two or three people walking side by side.

It was about several hundred meters long.

Once inside, there was no way forward or back, and no support from left or right; it was a naturally perfect location for an ambush.

"Report to the Young Master immediately!"

Bake made a prompt decision.

"Tell the Young Master that the enemy is moving toward the 'Yixiantian' canyon and is expected to arrive within half an hour!"

"Yes!"

The scout took the order and immediately spurred his horse away.

Bake took a deep breath, watching the scout's retreating back, a trace of anticipation flashing in his eyes.

The Young Master's judgment was indeed correct.

Now, it was time to see the Young Master's performance.

"Yixiantian" canyon.

Just as its name suggested, looking up, the sky was squeezed by the steep cliffs on both sides into a thin, bright line.

The light inside the canyon was dim, the rocks were jagged, and gusts of cold wind blew through, making a wailing sound like ghosts crying and wolves howling.

Roko sat on his Storm Colt, standing quietly on a hidden high ground on one side of the canyon.

Behind him, Hart and Fula stood on his left and right.

Further back, one hundred Storm Knights had already dismounted, holding their respective warhorses, hiding silently behind the rocks and bushes on both sides of the canyon.

Their movements were light and agile, forming a sharp contrast with the massive Storm Colts.

Nearly two hundred members of the reserve force were hidden further out, their bows and long spears already aimed at the entrance and exit of the canyon.

The entire canyon was like a giant pocket, waiting for the prey to throw themselves into the net.

"Young Master, the scouts report that Kagerosh's Kobold unit is less than five miles away."

Hart reported in a low voice, his tone carrying a hint of imperceptible excitement.

Roko nodded slightly, his eyes calm and waveless.

"Everything proceeds according to plan."

"Wait until they have all entered the canyon before making a move."

"I want to make sure they cannot escape even with wings."

Fula's heterochromatic eyes flickered with cold killing intent.

She licked her lips lightly, as if she could already smell the scent of blood.

Time passed second by second.

Inside the canyon, only the sound of the wind echoed.

The oppressive silence signaled that a bloody slaughter was about to arrive.

Finally.

A burst of faint footsteps and the sound of armor rubbing against each other came from the entrance of the canyon.

Kagerosh and his elite Kobolds appeared in everyone's line of sight.

They did not know that they were stepping into a trap of death step by step.

Kagerosh walked at the very front of the team, his face showing a trace of fatigue, but his eyes were filled with longing for the future.

As long as he passed through this canyon, he would be one step closer to success.

"Keep your spirits up!"

Kagerosh turned back and shouted in a low voice.

"Once we pass through here, we will be half safe!"

"By then, gold, women, and fine wine—we will have it all!"

He tried to use these to boost morale.

Upon hearing this, the elite Kobolds indeed had a flash of greed in their eyes, and their pace quickened a bit.

They did not notice at all that countless pairs of cold eyes were hidden behind the cliffs on both sides.

When the last Kobold stepped into the range of the "Yixiantian" canyon.

A cold arc curled at the corner of Roko's mouth.

He slowly raised his right hand.

On both sides of the canyon, everyone's heart was in their throat.

The air seemed to freeze at this moment.

"Attack!"

Roko's hand swung down violently!

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

In an instant, a dense rain of arrows, like a swarm of locusts, shot down from both sides of the canyon toward the unprepared Kobold team!

"Puff, puff, puff!"

The sound of arrows piercing flesh rose one after another.

"Ah!"

"Enemy attack! There's an ambush!"

The shrill screams and panicked shouts instantly broke the silence of the canyon.

The Kobold team fell into chaos instantly.

They never dreamed that they would encounter such a deadly ambush on this mountain road they thought was extremely secret.

Kagerosh's pupils shrank, and the smugness and longing on his face were instantly replaced by horror and disbelief.

"How is this possible?!"

"How could they be here?!"

He let out a hysterical roar.

This made no sense!

Except for his most core confidants, it was impossible for any outsider to know about this road!

However, the cold arrows would not give him time to think.

Dozens of Kobolds were hit by the first wave of arrows and fell to the ground, letting out painful wails. ===== CHAPTER 66 =====
