Chapter 215: The Sullen Pair

~6 min read 1,127 words

The next day, the faculty office area of Mitra Academy.

Two pockets of low pressure lingered near a desk close to the window, causing passing teachers to turn their heads and stare.

Professor Luo De'an cradled a cup of tea that had long gone cold, gazed at the energetic students on the playground outside, and let out a sigh with a worried frown:

"Sigh........"

Next to him, Teacher Su Jingchuan held a gleaming, oil‑polished Handgun Special Part, absentmindedly wiping it with a clean velvet cloth, and let out another heavy sigh:

"Sigh........"

The two male teachers, vastly different in style—one old, one young—but both exuding an aura of "I'm depressed, I'm troubled," successfully caught the attention of a female teacher at the next desk.

Professor Luo De'an is famously good‑tempered; perhaps because of his age he has become more indifferent to many things. Even the incident of chasing after a certain Ying Guang Lu, though it embarrassed him, he quickly accepted the reality.

Su Jingchuan, even more so, is a stark contrast to Professor Luo De'an; although he usually strives to appear gentle and kind, he occasionally reveals his inherently bad temper.

But precisely because of that, the two of them wouldn't be sighing continuously as they are now.

She could no longer bear the sight of the two of them sighing one after another, and couldn't help speaking up:

"Excuse me, seniors, why are you sighing so early this morning? The sun is so bright today; smile a bit."

Another male teacher, who knew some of the background, continued while sorting his lesson plans:

"Professor Luo De'an is worried about his son Luo Jinyou, right? I heard that kid formed a Mercenary Squad with teammates a few days ago to undertake a field mission."

"Already? They just enrolled, didn't they?" the female teacher exclaimed, surprised, noting no wonder Professor Luo De'an was so concerned—his child started forming a team and taking missions shortly after enrollment, and the first mission already required going outdoors.

Another teacher, who had heard some rumors, interjected:

"I heard that an accident happened on their first mission—really... their luck wasn't good. The professor both wishes his child would face the outside world later, and feels gratified that the child can handle crises independently and return safely, a contradiction."

Professor Luo De'an gave a wry smile and nodded; he had heard Shen Zexi give a rough account of the mission, noting that aside from failing to escape the nightmare at the end, Luo Jinyou had cooperated quite well with the other members of the Mercenary Corps throughout.

As for Luo Jinyou's nightmare, to be honest, he also had some speculation.

The female teacher nodded sympathetically and turned to Su Jingchuan: "And you, Teacher Su? You're not usually one to sigh."

The same teacher who knew some of the background lowered his voice, with a hint of amusement.

"Teacher Su, a while back he was particularly interested in that freshman—what was his name... Ying Duo? The one with the distinctive hair color. That kid has a great talent with firearms, and he even personally invited him to join his class."

"And then?"

"And then?" the teacher's face instantly broke into an amused grin.

"That kid never showed up even once! Teacher Su, every time he called roll it was empty, his face turning as black as a pot bottom. Yesterday, after finally hearing that the kid finally added the class to his schedule, Su was a bit happy, but this morning........"

"What happened this morning?"

Su Jingchuan finally set down the firearm part, rubbed his brow, and continued in a tone mixing frustration and helplessness:

"This morning, the kid's 'parent' came to the Academy to request a leave, saying they would take him to the Church to find someone to examine his brain again."

How could he stop that?

Many people already knew Ying Duo had brain issues, and after a few people had an accident on a recent Mercenary mission, he couldn't possibly block them from leaving.

When his words fell silent, the office slipped into a brief hush.

"Pfft—" someone couldn't hold back.

"Check... the brain?" the female teacher asked, her expression odd.

"Yes, check the brain." Su Jingchuan repeated with a wooden expression.

"The reason was ample, the attitude sincere, the paperwork complete; considering Ying Duo's already special condition, the school approved it readily."

In the end, his plan fell flat once again.

Even Professor Luo De'an couldn't help but pat Su Jingchuan's shoulder sympathetically.

"At least... the parent seems concerned about the child's health?"

Su Jingchuan: "........."

He now just wants to know how long his class must wait before this 'genius' student finally arrives.

The two 'mutually pitied' teachers glanced at each other again and, in unison, let out an even longer sigh:

"Sigh—"

Meanwhile, Ying Duo, who had been picked up from the Academy by his parent Bai Mu Yun, was sitting in a moving black sedan.

The doctor who was supposed to examine him hadn't arrived yet; actually, Ying Duo initially thought it would be Lin Xin, since among the Dome Camp NPCs he knew, only Lin Xin was currently linked to research.

But Lin Xin is already on campus, giving him plenty of opportunity to test Ying Duo, so perhaps they intend to bring in other new NPCs specialized in this research?

Yang Yixie wasn't clear, but the player's amnesia cause still needed to be uncovered soon, as it pertained to a new main quest.

The black sedan smoothly left the area surrounding Mitra Academy, merging into Tianmian City's tangled traffic.

Bai Mu Yun sat in the driver's seat; daytime Tianmian City was still bustling, leading to heavy congestion, and they unfortunately hit rush hour.

He rhythmically tapped the steering wheel with his fingers, "The operation is set for tonight; my subordinates have already surveyed the locations listed on the draft and confirmed the sites."

He slightly adjusted the car's navigation map, projecting a miniature Tianmian City Structural Map.

Bai Mu Yun zoomed in on an area—located toward the lower edge of Tianmian City—where few people lived, mostly just engineering projects.

"Here," Bai Mu Yun continued, pointing at a gray patch, "on the surface it's an abandoned Weather Station; maintenance logs show only a recorder occasionally visits for basic infrastructure inspections to prevent total collapse."

Bai Mu Yun switched layers, revealing a dense tangle of red lines within the gray area.

"Based on the Design Draft you provided, the Air Train's Energy Core is highly likely to be covertly placed here."

Previously, the Dome had also conducted investigations based on the Air Train's energy, after all the train links the ground and Floating City, and the daily energy required for its operation is no small amount.
