Chapter 32: Chi Jinan (Revised)

~6 min read 1,182 words

His coworker couldn't help laughing at his rapid-fire complaints, quickly waving a hand to interrupt him.

All right, all right, I know it's not easy for you, but His Majesty the Pope places special importance on him, and you know his strength......

Qi Junyi couldn't help rolling his eyes.

The only thing about that kid is that you can't find any fault with his strength... sigh, it's true that without comparison there's no harm.

He glanced back at the direction Ying Duo had left, his tone tinged with relief.

Looking at it this way, that green-haired kid just now, although his way of thinking is a bit... well, unique.

But at least he answers when asked, follows when told to follow, doesn't cause trouble or make a mess, his taste isn't bad either—aside from his odd cognition, he's practically a well-behaved kid.

His coworker was also amused by his exaggerated comparison, but his taste isn't bad... he could only chuckle.

Only this guy could say something like that.

Suddenly, she seemed to have just remembered something.

By the way, you're in charge of interrogations here—where did that sir go?

Qi Junyi curled his lips upon hearing that, clearly not wanting to bring up that guy at this moment.

He? He's probably off sleeping in some corner—anyway, as long as he doesn't come cause trouble for us, he can do whatever he wants.

For that unconventional coworker, aside from feeling helpless, there really seems to be nothing else to do.

At least today I don't have to clean up his mess—just that alone is worth celebrating all day.

And although the freshman named Ying Duo is odd, he's ultimately a headache the Mitra Academy needs to deal with.

The Judgment Court still has plenty of troubles; they don't have the leisure to handle these.

Ying Duo, under the guidance of a judge, walked along the dimly lit corridor toward the exit.

The metal walls bounced back their monotonous footsteps, as if they were the only two in the space, and just as they were about to reach the exit, a person walked toward them.

He was a tall, slim youth wearing a black combat uniform that differed slightly from the Judgment Court's standard attire, appearing more casual yet exuding a dangerous aura.

His head of short hair was a vivid, eye-catching red like burning flames, the strands sticking up rebelliously.

In stark contrast to that fiery red hair was his face—smoothly contoured and utterly expressionless.

His eyes were dark pools like a cold pond, showing no emotional fluctuation, only a faint, indifferent calm.

He walked with his hands in his pockets, his steps lax, as if he weren't in the heavily guarded Heresy Tribunal Branch but strolling in his own backyard.

Just as they brushed past each other, the red-haired youth's gaze swept over them casually.

His glance lingered not at all on Ying Duo's equally eye-catching fluorescent-green hair, slipping away as naturally as if it had skimmed the air.

He regarded Ying Duo as utterly insignificant—a roadside pebble or a wall decoration, basically—showing no interest in investigating him at all.

Only after the red-haired youth had walked away did the judge beside Ying Duo, who had been tense-faced, finally relax and let out a heavy sigh.

He instinctively lowered his voice, as if muttering to himself, and remarked with a sense of lingering fear.

"Phew... fortunately, today that sir seems to be in a good mood, not looking for trouble......"

His tone carried obvious relief, as if he had just narrowly avoided an unwarranted disaster.

Immediately he realized his slip of the tongue, quickly straightened his formal face back into a cold, rigid expression.

He then quickened his pace, almost urging Ying Duo forward to the heavy doors of the Judgment Court Branch.

"You may go; return to the Academy on your own, and don't linger elsewhere."

The judge tossed off that remark stiffly, then turned and retreated into the building; the heavy door closed slowly behind Ying Duo, sealing off the oppressive world once again from the outside.

Ying Duo stood on an unfamiliar street, the afternoon sun somewhat glaring; the building behind him, even bathed in sunlight, could not dispel the chill, resembling a massive coffin.

He blinked, adjusted to the change in outside light, then pulled up the system map to confirm the route back to Mitra Academy.

Ying Duo's current concern is the newly acquired item in his backpack, the Unlimited Equipment Item Experience Card, and, after returning to the Academy, how to advance the side quest that raises his roommate Luo Jinyou's affection.

Tsk.

They drove him over but didn't drive him back, and besides, the game hasn't added a teleport function; there's hardly any chance of a station near the Judgment Court, so he can only run the map on foot.

Yang Yixie simply turned on auto-navigation for Ying Duo to find his own way back, then casually tossed his phone aside and went to wash up.

"How did you come over?"

Qi Junyi finished organizing the documents in his hand, had just handed them to the brown-haired girl beside him, and she immediately sped away from here.

The brown-haired girl's back nearly fled in panic, disappearing around the corner at the end of the hallway, her footsteps growing fainter and more chaotic.

Qi Junyi wasn't surprised; in fact, no one in the Heresy Tribunal would want to stay in a room with that guy, himself included.

Chi Jinan stood like a solidified flame sculpture, silently stationed there, utterly out of place amid the surrounding gray, oppressive environment.

He seemed to emanate an invisible field that made any creature sensing danger instinctively want to stay away.

"A temporary mission." The red-haired youth said calmly.

"Huh? Aren't all the missions usually reported to you by me......"

Qi Junyi instinctively retorted, then suddenly realized something.

For missions that normally require both of them, the higher-ups usually choose to notify him directly, after all, that sir is always unreachable, so over time he's grown accustomed to it.

This damnable habit of taking it for granted......

Qi Junyi silently cursed himself, then immediately grasped the seriousness of the problem.

Only one person could bypass all procedures and deliver the mission straight into Chi Jinan's hands.

He subconsciously lifted his head, but only slowly realized that within the Heretical Judgment Bureau, only a few places had windows; most were such enclosed environments.

"So, what mission is it?"

He had thought that the recent 'Old World Undead,' silently seeping into the world like bone-attached maggots, were already the top-priority threat being handled.

Speaking of this, Chi Jinan rarely furrowed his brows, seeming especially opposed to this mission.

Go be a bodyguard for someone.

Ah, that's settled.

Qi Junyi really isn't surprised at all; if it's a killing-related mission, whether this guy will ask him to come along is a problem.

Only this sort of troublesome duty would make this Slayer feel vexed and resistant, compelling him to rope in his "babysitter".

Bodyguard...

What does he have to protect this time?
