Chapter 345

~6 min read 1,165 words

Luo Jinyou is still alive.

Yu Cai's brain, after seeing Ying Duo, almost completely froze.

Ying Duo? The one said to have a problem with his brain?

Ying Duo, why is this person here?

How did this person end up with those people?

And that white‑haired man, those tentacles…

What on earth is going on?

Yu Cai lay on the ground, watching the people in the hall through the narrow crack in the door.

Bai Mu Yun had already stood up, giving a slight nod toward the white‑haired man.

Lu Mu whistled, his gaze landing on Luo Jinyou. "Yo, you really brought someone out? Still haven't fully mutated?"

Fang Zhiyan, upon hearing that, simply lifted his chin, his tone casual, and the tentacle pointed at Ying Duo's location and tapped.

"This kid's credit."

Ying Duo said nothing, pulling down his black hood to hide the unusually bright Ying Guang Lu hair, while his soulless golden eyes scanned the hall, pausing slightly at one spot.

Yu Cai's heart suddenly tightened.

That was exactly the direction where she was hiding.

There was no expression in that gaze, yet for some reason Yu Cai felt the "detached feeling" around Ying Duo had faded a bit.

Just a moment.

But Ying Duo only glanced and then looked away, as if noticing nothing abnormal.

Yu Cai didn't know whether to sigh in relief; she watched those people start to clean up the aftermath, Lu Mu slipping a card into his pocket, Bai Mu Yun adjusting his collar, and Fang Zhiyan pulling out a pocket watch from somewhere to check the time.

"There's another NPC over there, does it matter?"

Ying Duo's voice came from the far side of the hall, and Yu Cai snapped her head up, only to see that the direction Ying Duo pointed at was exactly where she was hiding.

He discovered it!

"Time is more important to us; this operation went so smoothly thanks to help from other departments," the white‑haired man's voice came, laced with a casual smile.

"Anyway, we're leaving Tianmian City soon; a grand farewell ceremony is far more important than passing NPCs."

Fang Zhiyan merely let out a light laugh, clearly not taking Yu Cai into consideration.

To them, whether those people are dead or alive, conscious or comatose, makes no difference.

As long as they don't interfere with them, it's fine.

Yu Cai felt as if she were sinking into an ice cellar; they had found her? Not planning to kill her?

She looked at the bodies strewn across the Supervision Bureau; this was their "farewell ceremony"?

Who exactly are they?

Yu Cai didn't recognize those two white‑haired men, but she remembered Lu Mu; he's a Co‑Absorption cultist wanted by the Church!

Bai Mu Yun and Fang Zhiyan had absolutely no intention of concealing their Mutation Features.

And Ying Duo now stood among them with no sense of discord.

Wasn't he a student of Mitra?

Wasn't his brain supposed to be problematic?

How could he…

Ying Duo seemed to accept Fang Zhiyan's words, but grew curious about something else.

"Other departments?" Yu Cai heard him ask.

Fang Zhiyan simply gave a mysterious smile.

"This successful prison break was thanks to the Field Operations Department's people drawing the Supervision Bureau's attention."

———————————————

Prison break.

Field Operations Department.

Attract attention.

These words slammed into Yu Cai's mind one by one, making her dizzy and disoriented.

She watched the group head toward the main gate, and after seeing Ying Duo's silhouette vanish completely outside, she dared to step out of the door and immediately began emergency treatment on the people lying on the ground.

But that scene just now kept lingering in her mind.

Ying Duo walked among those cultists with a natural bearing, as if he always belonged there.

Yu Cai suddenly recalled a previous time she had met Ying Duo in a corridor; he had sprinted past her from behind without even glancing at her.

At that moment she thought the person was truly rude.

But later she learned that Ying Duo's brain had a problem, and he treated everyone with a completely indifferent attitude, so her original disgust inevitably turned into pity.

Now thinking back—

He might truly not have "seen" her.

Just as he said, in his eyes they're all merely "NPCs."

A passerby who can walk and talk, a background prop not worth a second glance.

Yu Cai didn't know whether she should be angry or scared.

He is not at all the kind of person she thought.

Or perhaps, he might not be a "person" at all.

Can humans understand the thought patterns of Aberrant Species?

Yu Cai believes they cannot.

——————————————

Regarding this, Jiangdu strongly agrees.

Hong Ling pulled him around the Academy once, and Jiangdu couldn't help but ask whom she was going to see next; only then did Hong Ling tell him the target's location.

Oh, you mean you took me around the Academy in a big circle, while the person they were supposed to meet has actually been waiting at the school gate for a long time?

Hong Ling simply nodded slowly, adding that because that person let her experience Academy life, she lingered a bit longer.

Jiangdu said he didn't understand.

He found communicating with this girl very problematic; although Hong Ling answered almost every question he asked, each answer revealed her unreliability.

The two had just turned past a flower bed, and were about to step onto the main road leading to the school gate.

A figure emerged from the shade of a nearby tree, right in front of them.

Jiangdu instinctively halted; the person wore a white coat, seemed just out of the lab, had somewhat long hair, and his gaze was indistinct.

He stood there, directly blocking their path.

"Are you classmate Jiangdu?"

Jiangdu was startled; he had no recollection of the person, "You are...?"

"Lin Xin," the person adjusted his glasses, "I am a teaching assistant at the Academy."

Jiangdu searched his mind and confirmed he had no memory of that name.

"Are you looking for me?"

"Yes," Lin Xin's gaze fell on his face, then he nodded slightly, "I heard you have a good relationship with classmate Yu Cai?"

Jiangdu furrowed his brows.

Yu Cai?

Why bring up Yu Cai all of a sudden?

"We know each other," he replied cautiously, "Is there something?"

Lin Xin didn't answer immediately, "You know about the attack on classmate Yu Cai at noon today, right? The Academy has some matters to ask you about—"

"No."

A cold voice cut him off directly.

Jiangdu felt his collar tighten, his whole body yanked backward by a strong force, stumbling two steps back.

Hong Ling stood before him, firmly blocking him from behind.

Those vibrant emerald-green eyes now stared at Lin Xin emotionlessly.

"Get away."

Lin Xin's expression remained unchanged, only his eyes, hidden by long bangs, narrowed slightly.

"Classmate Hong Ling," his tone still calm, "I only want to ask a few questions."
