Chapter 386: I'm going to take on the boss alone to scout the path

~6 min read 1,168 words

Before he could figure it out, a huge thrust came from behind, and Bai Mu Yun and Luo Jinyou lost their balance at the same time.

Bai Mu Yun almost instinctively wrapped himself in a cloud-like layer; his whole body bounced off it, extremely elastic, and he wasn't hurt at all.

Luo Jinyou, too, was somewhat accustomed to demolition; facing that sudden thrust, he actually dug his freshly grown claws into the ground, anchoring himself in place.

He had just struggled to his feet when he saw the clouds outside the porthole receding backward at an unimaginable speed.

It wasn't the clouds receding; the airship was accelerating!

Bai Mu Yun gritted his teeth hard, completely unable to empathize with his former self.

Earlier he thought it a pity that Ying Duo had caught Fang Zhiyan's eye; now? Hah, Fang Zhiyan would do best to keep Ying Duo locked up in his containment chamber forever!

Don't let this brat out again to wreak havoc!

At this moment Ying Duo sat in the pilot's seat, his hands flying over the control panel, streaks of Ying Guang Lu energy extending from his fingertips.

Outside the window, a huge city was rapidly approaching.

That was Heavenly Dome City, also the location of Dome Headquarters.

Unlike the more traditional Tianmian City, the Dome fit Ying Duo's stereotype of a high-tech city: towering buildings, floating platforms, and shuttles weaving through them.

But in one respect Heavenly Dome City clearly fell short of Tianmian City: although its name also contains "heaven," it is not a floating city like Tianmian City; it is built against a cliff, and even though most of the area is airborne, it still does not qualify as a "floating city."

But at this moment, everyone in the city was doing the same thing:

Look up.

————————————

Today's weather was quite nice, sunshine bright, cloudless for miles.

Pedestrians on the street walked in twos and threes, some shopping, some chatting, all enjoying this rare leisure time.

Then——

"Whoosh——!!!"

A huge black shadow swept overhead, moving so fast it was almost impossible to tell what it was.

Everyone lifted their heads, staring blankly at the massive object tearing across the sky at an unimaginable speed.

"What, what is that?!"

"An airship?!"

"Impossible! How could an airship fly that fast?!"

"It's heading toward headquarters!"

The street instantly fell into chaos, and the officials working at Dome Headquarters also lifted their heads, peering through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the black shadow rapidly approaching.

"That is......"

An official narrowed his eyes, trying to make out what that black shadow was.

Then his expression froze—it was an airship.

An airship that was moving at a speed completely violating physics, hurtling straight toward them.

"Holy shit——!!!"

He instinctively stepped back a step.

But just before the airship would have hit the building, it made a sharp turn; the balloon supporting its flight almost scraped the outer wall, then it executed a neat tail‑slide and came to a smooth stop on the headquarters' dedicated docking platform.

The whole process was smooth and seamless, done in one fluid motion.

If no one had seen it with their own eyes, nobody would believe an airship could perform such a maneuver; the guards around the docking platform were completely dumbfounded.

They stared at the airship still faintly steaming, and for a moment no one dared to approach.

Bai Mu Yun and Luo Jinyou finally stumbled to the cockpit door; when Bai Mu Yun pushed it open, Ying Duo was rising from the pilot's seat, stretching his somewhat stiff shoulders.

Seeing them enter, he tilted his head, looking especially innocent.

"We've arrived."

Indeed we had arrived; what should have taken several hours was flown through by Ying Duo in just half an hour.

Bai Mu Yun almost laughed in anger—how had he not known Ying Duo could be so thoughtful before?

Luo Jinyou, more experienced than him, leaned against the doorframe, his legs still weak, his lips moving to utter a few broken syllables:

"I...... will never again...... ride any vehicle you drive......"

I had thought Ying Duo driving a car was already murder; turns out the airship is even more vicious.

Moreover, because the sky lacks the ground's many obstacles, Ying Duo was simply having a blast flying; were it not for the vehicle's limits, he would surely have done a midair flip.

Ying Duo ignored him, instead fixing his gaze directly on Bai Mu Yun.

"Did Fang Zhiyan tell you to bring Luo Jinyou to his lab?"

Bai Mu Yun's eyes sank at once, and Luo Jinyou, upon hearing those three words "lab," also sensed something was off.

Because Bai Mu Yun had looked after him along the way and Ying Duo had tormented him, plus after becoming an Aberrant Species he had nowhere else to go, he had never dared to examine why the two insisted on bringing him to the Dome.

But it wasn't really surprising, either.

Luo Jinyou lowered his head slightly, while Bai Mu Yun beside him spoke up:

"After all, this kid is a newcomer; a basic physical check is definitely necessary."

Bai Mu Yun had already braced himself for Ying Duo possibly lashing out at him suddenly, after all Ying Duo had done so before.

"Is that so?" Ying Duo replied ambiguously, nodding.

"Then you can bring Luo Jinyou over later; first take him to some deserted spot to relax."

"That won't do—I'm not you; if I defy the minister's order, he won't go easy on me."

Bai Mu Yun's eyes had gradually turned cold; evidently Ying Duo was trying to protect Luo Jinyou.

"Oh, then you don't need to worry about that."

Ying Duo seemed utterly unconcerned, merely still studying the airship's control panel.

Just now the airship received a contact request from Dome Headquarters, but he hung up directly, and now outside there are many security personnel gathered.

At times like this, we should make good use of our cheap teacher.

While sending a message to Fang Zhiyan, Ying Duo said.

He's not available right now; I need to go find him to ask a few questions. After I'm done, you can come over for the inspection.

Game dungeons always like to set up a series of prerequisites, like pre-bosses and such; given that his cheap teacher is very likely the ultimate behind-the-scenes boss, we might as well just rush in with the information we've gathered and confront it.

Anyway, with the divine artifact in hand, the world is mine; if something really goes wrong, there's still a chance to fix it.

Thinking this, Ying Duo raised his hand and patted Luo Jinyou on the shoulder.

You rest well first; I'll go solo the boss to scout the path.

Why have the Undead come to this world, what exactly is the Dome's layout and stance, and the so-called 'god', prophecies, the seven laws...

He really has too many questions to ask.

Hmm, as expected, it's best to just ask the magical octopus directly.
