Chapter 470: Sniper Ready

~7 min read 1,255 words

Strictly speaking, Mei Wei Si is not a student of Fang Zhiyan, but they can absolutely be called accomplices.

Perhaps it was the unbearable memories of her childhood that twisted Mei Wei Si's craving for power, or perhaps it was because Fang Zhiyan said such things that the Dome would secretly help her gain control of the entire Wen Sha family.

In the end, Mei Wei Si became a member of the Mutation Department while still alive.

In Hua Mei Niao's eyes, Mei Wei Si was merely a thief who stole everything from her, but in the queen bee's eyes, these were spoils she obtained to survive.

Replacing the original Mei Wei Si? That in itself is impossible and unnecessary, but Mei Wei Si's ability will make the entire Wen Sha family become her hive.

"The head of the Wen Sha family is still Mei Wei Si, but not you."

Mei Wei Si's voice was soft, but each word precisely cut where Hua Mei Niao felt the most pain.

Hua Mei Niao's fingers clenched tightly into a fist, her nails digging into her palm, blood seeping out from between her fingers, drop by drop falling onto the dark green hem of her skirt, spreading into dark brown flowers.

"Wen Sha family?"

She took a step forward, her boot heel crushing a brick, fragments flying, but it looked more like helpless rage.

After all, this is just the fact.

The Wen Sha family had already been heading toward decline in their hands, with no chance of a turnaround, which is why they could only vent all their anger on the servants.

And yet the Wen Sha family still barely manages to stay among the nobility, solely because Mei Wei Si's novels need someone to help promote them, allowing them to profit from it.

"Do you think that by putting on these clothes, learning a few stock phrases, and putting on an aristocratic airs, you become a member of the Wen Sha family?"

Hua Mei Niao's voice was full of grudge, like a vengeful ghost crawling up from underground: "You're nothing but a tiny bug; I could crush you with ease."

Mei Wei Si's smile remained unchanged; she pushed up the brim of her sunshade, looking into Hua Mei Niao's eyes—there was no anger, no mockery, nothing at all.

"You're right," Mei Wei Si did not deny, "I am not a member of the Wen Sha family, because your parents were always restless, so I just found some excuse to send them down to keep you company."

"Why can't you behave a little better? Otherwise, you might have already been reunited."

Hua Mei Niao was forced to become non-human, believing she had gained the power to take revenge on the other party.

She did not realize that, in order to survive in this man-eating society, the other party had already stepped onto that forbidden path ahead of her.

The factory fell silent for a moment, while in the distance a crow's call could still be heard.

Family?

To be honest, Hua Mei Niao had long forgotten them; since she could remember, they had been entirely occupied with family affairs, having no time to care for her.

But what does that matter? They are still her family, not something a mere servant could easily harm.

"It's fine; then you can help me deliver a message down there."

Hua Mei Niao let out a cold laugh, her massive wings spreading behind her, determined to give Mei Wei Si a taste of her own medicine.

Let her think—where should she start?

As expected, it's still the same as before—first restrain her, then slowly dissect her with feather blades...

Mei Wei Si finally brought herself to remove the sunshade that blocked her view, tossing it aside casually; the bow tied to its strap floated away on the wind.

Her fingers lightly combed through her hair, brushing the strands messed up by the hat behind her ears.

Her pupils began to turn yellow from the center, like a drop of honey falling into water, until her whole pupils became amber gold, glowing dully in the darkness.

Something moved beneath her skin, like a swarm of tiny tiny insects crawling under her skin.

Just moments ago she had been dignified and polite, an exceedingly elegant noble girl, now revealing her non-human nature.

Those insects started from her neck, crawling outward in all directions, leaving on her skin a series of hexagonal patterns like a honeycomb, faintly glowing.

Hua Mei Niao instinctively stepped back.

In her pupils reflected Mei Wei Si's shadow; that elegant Mei Wei Si was gradually disappearing before her eyes, replaced by something even more repulsive.

"This is me," Mei Wei Si's voice remained just as soft, but its tone shifted from the usual languid, careless inflection to a rare seriousness.

"To be honest, I don't like this form; no matter how you say it, bees are a kind of insect, and this appearance really doesn't match my aesthetic as a human."

Hua Mei Niao's fingers gripping the umbrella handle unconsciously tightened, her knuckles whitening; perhaps she herself didn't notice, but facing such a Mei Wei Si, fear had already risen in her heart.

But her pride forcibly overrode that instinct of being an Aberrant Species—the unconscious wariness when facing a stronger predator—pushing it aside.

She stared at Mei Wei Si, especially those crystalline compound eyes, the curve of her mouth growing increasingly manic.

"Good, I'll make you know what food ought to be aware of."

Her eyes also changed—not the pupil color, but the shape of the eye sockets, shifting from human almond eyes to birdlike round eyes, the pupils huge, almost filling the entire iris.

Hua Mei Niao rushed forward a step, arms spread wide, like a diving raptor.

Her speed was such that Mei Wei Si's eyes could barely keep up, yet she neither dodged nor retreated.

Her right hand drew out from beneath her skirt, gripping a black short stick, which she thrust forward straight at Hua Mei Niao's face.

Hua Mei Niao sidestepped; the stick grazed past her ear, while her nails merely scraped across Mei Wei Si's arm, leaving three scratches on the deep violet cuff.

But those scratches didn't even wound Mei Wei Si's flesh; they only tore the fabric.

Hua Mei Niao planted her foot on the rubble, using it for leverage, and reached with her right hand from another direction for Mei Wei Si's throat.

Mei Wei Si merely switched the stick to her left hand, raising her right hand to meet it.

Her nails halted in Mei Wei Si's palm, a stream of amber, viscous energy like honey directly sucking Hua Mei Niao's fingers in.

Mei Wei Si did not rush to act, merely mocking Hua Mei Niao's futile effort, which only made her more furious.

The two faced off in the factory, one still, one moving.

Upstairs, Min Tianyou leaned against the window frame, looking down through the hole at the two people below.

He took a candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth.

This candy was quite expensive, its minty chill helping to clear his mind a bit.

And farther away, Ying Duo had already set up his sniper rifle, this spot having just been selected by Min Tianyou as a firing point, allowing him to clearly see the combat inside the factory.

The two women, dressed in their finest, began to fight, their flying skirts undoubtedly beautiful, yet neither concealed her non-human nature.
