Chapter 171: Shuangye Gym, Flying Gym

Shuangye Town's Shuangye Gym is a League gym that focuses on Flying-type Pokémon.

Inside, the gym is spacious and bright, the floor covered with light-colored, non‑slip tiles, and posters of various Flying-type Pokémon hang around; a faint breeze can be smelled in the air.

The Gym Leader Qi Shi leans against a resting chair by the wall, his silver‑white long hair flowing, dressed in a tight teal‑blue suit, with a silver‑gray aerodynamic visor around his neck, looking casual yet a bit unruly.

He lifts his head at the sound of footsteps, lets out a big yawn, and in a lazy tone says, "You're the Trainer who came today to challenge the gym?"

Huo La steps forward, nods slightly at Qi Shi, and says, "Yes, I'm a challenger from Pallet Town, Huo La."

"Pallet Town?" Qi Shi raises an eyebrow, squints and sizes Huo La up, his tone gaining a hint of interest, "Interesting, Pallet Town really does produce talent."

"Hm?" Huo La lets out a light "eh", a bit puzzled.

"Oh, don't misunderstand, I mean no other intent." Qi Shi waves his hand, explaining, "Before you, I also faced two challengers from Pallet Town, but that was just a week ago."

"One arrived in a luxury Sports Car, with two girls in tow—what a flashy brat."

"The other was more low‑key, but wore a jade pendant around his neck that looked pricey, and his strength was quite impressive."

Huo La hears this and instantly understands.

No need to think: the flashy brat in the Sports Car must be Xiao Mao, and the one with the jade pendant is certainly Green. He isn't surprised by Xiao Mao's visit, but didn't expect Green to have also come to Shuangye Town to challenge the gym.

"It seems Trainers from Pallet Town all like to come to my Shuangye Gym for experience." Qi Shi smiles, stands from the chair, flexes his wrist, "Since you're from Pallet Town, your strength should be comparable. No more talk, the Gym Challenge rules are simple: three‑on‑three battles until one side's Pokémon all lose the ability to fight. Ready?"

Huo La nods, pulls a Pokeball from his waist, his gaze firm, "Ready to start at any time!"

"Alright, you go first. Pidgey, go!" Qi Shi casually grabs a Pokeball from the table, throws it, a red flash, and a Pidgey lands in the center of the battlefield.

"Shiny Pidgey!" Huo La narrows his eyes, and the system panel instantly pops up data:

Pokémon: Pidgey (Shiny)

Gender: Male

Level: Lv30

Su Xing: A

Status: Healthy

Nature: Stubborn

Type: Normal/Flying

Ability: Strong Chest Muscles (prevents defense‑lowering effects.)

Height: 1.4 m

Weight: 32.8 kg

Carried Item: None

Moves: Swift (37% mastery), Steel Wing (61%), Gust (18%), Electric Flash (87%), Swords Dance (100%)

Improvement Count: 0

This Pidgey's Su Xing and level are average, but its size is half a circle larger than a normal Pidgey, and its wingspan exudes a clear intimidation, clearly the result of careful breeding.

"In that case, Beedrill, you're up!" Huo La flicks his finger, grabs a Pokeball and throws it; a Beedrill flutters out, hovers mid‑air, its double needles glinting coldly.

"Beedrill?" Qi Shi raises an eyebrow, tone playful, "While type advantage isn't everything, sending a Bug‑type Beedrill straight in does seem a bit dismissive of me, doesn't it?"

As soon as the words leave his mouth, he orders, "Pidgey, use Swords Dance!"

"Pidgey!" The Shiny Pidgey focuses, wings slightly folded, a faint white glow surrounds it—Swords Dance activates, raising both Attack and Special Attack.

"Sure enough, you opened with Swords Dance." Huo La isn't surprised; he had anticipated it.

Among this Pidgey's five moves, only Swords Dance is at 100% mastery, clearly Qi Shi's core opening tactic to quickly boost power and seize the initiative.

He stays calm, shouting at Beedrill, "Beedrill, don't give it a chance to keep strengthening! Use high speed to close in, Multi Slash!"

"Needle—" Beedrill instantly complies, wings beating fast, its form becoming a blur as it darts toward the Pidgey—though Bug is weak to Flying, Beedrill's speed advantage is clear; as long as it gets close, it can dodge the disadvantage.

"What speed!" Qi Shi's eyes narrow; just as he's about to assess and give further orders, the Beedrill, using its high‑speed momentum, unleashes the pre‑ready move, Multi Slash mercilessly striking the Pidgey.

At the moment the attack ends, the Pidgey's wings droop helplessly, and it plummets straight to the ground, completely losing its ability to fight.

"Mr. Qi Shi, now do you still think I don't take you seriously?" Huo La looks across, tone calm yet full of confidence.

Qi Shi silently retrieves the Pidgey's Pokeball, finally stands fully from the chair, runs a hand through his flowing hair, his expression turning completely serious: "I admit, I did underestimate you before. From now on, I'll show my true skill and take this seriously."

The words finish, he grabs a second Pokeball from the table, hurls it forcefully, "Go, Gyarados!"

The red flash erupts, a massive blue Gyarados bursts onto the scene, its huge body filling most of the arena; it snaps its massive jaws at the airborne Beedrill, letting out a deafening roar, exuding strong deterrent power.

"Gyarados?!" Huo La's pupils contract slightly, a bit surprised.

Gyarados is a Water/Flying dual‑type; in typical gym battles its water power would dominate, but Qi Shi, as a Flying‑type Gym Leader, fields it clearly as his core Flying force.

The system panel's information confirms his speculation:

Pokémon: Gyarados

Gender: Male

Level: Lv38

Su Xing: S

Status: Healthy

Nature: Mischievous

Type: Water/Flying

Ability: Overconfidence (when this Pokémon defeats an opponent, its Attack rises.)

Height: 6.9 m

Weight: 241 kg

Carried Item: None

Moves: Bite (81% mastery), Twister (91%), Salt Water (47%), Hurricane (87%), Dragon Pulse (35%), Dragon Dance (100%), Double-Edge (11%), Hyper Beam......

Improvement Count: 0

This Violent Carp Dragon's Flying Type skill proficiency far exceeds its Water‑type, clearly after targeted cultivation; with its S‑Grade Su Xing, it cannot be compared to the former Bibi Bird.
