Chapter 310: Risking One's Life

~7 min read 1,282 words

Even though Gyarados had completed Mega Evolution, its resistance and strength both surged, yet under this airtight, tsunami‑like barrage of lightning it still gradually could not hold up.

Its red scales were scorched by the lightning, flashing with a charred glow; each dodge brought unbearable agony, its roar full of stubbornness, yet it never retreated, fiercely protecting Huo La on its back.

At that moment, a bucket‑thick bolt of lightning suddenly tore the sky, bearing world‑shattering force, slashing straight toward Gyarados's back—its target shockingly was Huo La!

The bolt moved at ultimate speed, accompanied by a screeching crackle, and in the blink of an eye it was upon them.

Huo La's pupils contracted sharply, and he was instantly stunned, as if all the blood in his body froze at that moment.

At this point Gyarados's form had reached its limit; no matter how it writhed or dodged, it could not possibly evade this fatal strike.

"It's over…" Huo La's heart sank; he subconsciously closed his eyes, already prepared to endure the lightning, even having given up resistance.

But the expected agony never came; an invisible barrier, faintly glowing, suddenly materialized above his head!

"Bang—!" A deafening roar; the deadly, massive bolt slammed into the barrier, instantly shattered and dispersed, leaving only a sky full of tiny electric blossoms that drifted down slowly.

Huo La jerked his eyes open, a tidal wave of shock rising in his heart, his face awash with astonishment and doubt, and he instinctively whispered, "Who?!"

The next second, Deoxys' cold yet clearly angry voice rang out in his Heart Lake: "What are you staring at! Waiting to die? Hurry and let Gyarados charge through! In my current state I can't hold on much longer; the barrier could shatter at any moment!"

The shock instantly turned to ecstatic joy; Huo La's heart warmed, and without a moment's hesitation he thrust his hand toward Gyarados's neck, his voice ringing resolutely, "Gyarados! Charge! Give it your all, rush to the top of the Mischievous Rocket King!"

Gyarados seemed to sense the protection of the invisible barrier above, and immediately let out a roar that echoed through the Valley, filled with unyielding bravery.

The speed, which had already slowed, surged again; its red‑scaled glow flared wildly, forcing the dense lightning as if it were a crimson bolt, surging forward with unstoppable momentum, breaking through layer upon layer of electric seals, racing toward the center of the Valley where the Mischievous Rocket King stood!

Lightning continuously hammered its body, the searing pain nearly devouring it, yet it did not waver; each dodge was terrifyingly precise, and in a brief moment it broke through all obstacles, appearing steadily above the Mischievous Rocket King.

"A little lower! One meter! Just one meter!" Huo La leaned forward, staring intently at the massive Mischievous Rocket King below, shouting.

Gyarados understood instantly, dived sharply downward, precisely controlling the distance, and when it reached about a meter above the Mischievous Rocket King's head, it hovered steadily.

Huo La hesitated not a moment, leapt from Gyarados's back, simultaneously pressed the Pokeball, retrieving the wounded yet stubborn Gyarados into the ball, then stretched his body into a wide stance and slammed hard onto the Mischievous Rocket King's body!

"Dong—!" A deep, heavy thud echoed as Huo La crashed onto the smooth body of the Mischievous Rocket King, the violent impact sending sharp pain through his whole body and a sweet taste in his throat.

But before he could even hum, his hands clenched tightly around the Mischievous Rocket King's body, instantly channeling his own power, crazily absorbing the raging Interdimensional Energy within the king.

The Interdimensional Energy surged wildly and domineeringly, flooding his meridians, each second feeling as if scorched by raging fire.

Huo La gritted his teeth, holding on, but after only two minutes that ferocious energy completely broke his limit; darkness swamped his vision, he could no longer sustain, and he fell into unconsciousness, his body still clinging to the Mischievous Rocket King.

————

Familiar excruciating pain streamed through his limbs and bones; Huo La frowned, struggling with great effort to crawl up—what met his eyes was a simple yet clean tent, with soft dry straw beneath, shielding him from the ground's chill.

"Damn it, I actually passed out this badly? Deoxys, you really were half‑hearted with your help," Huo La muttered, rubbing his swollen head.

The next second, Deoxys' voice, tinged with weakness, slowly resonated in his Heart Lake: "I have already given everything I can to keep you alive, to prevent your death."

Huo La let out a soft sigh, knowing it wasn't lying.

The weakness throughout his body surged like a tide; it was the aftereffect of having absorbed the Interdimensional Energy;

What concerned him more was that he was naked above the waist, his chest and back wrapped in layers of white gauze bandages, the edges faintly smelling of medicine—obviously these injuries were mostly self‑inflicted.

Although he had leapt from Gyarados's back only a meter away from the Mischievous Rocket King, the downward impact, smashing into the hard body, was still enough for him to endure.

Huo La gritted his teeth, slowly moved to the corner of the tent, picked up the neatly stacked jacket, struggled to slip it on, then leaned on the tent's edge and stepped out.

Outside the tent was a rare bright sunny day; the warm sunlight bathed him, dispelling some of the cold and weakness, making his whole body feel a bit more relaxed.

In the distant clearing, countless Diamond Team members bustled back and forth; some crouched checking the status of the Thunder Bombs and Lightning Balls, others gently applied medicine to them, clearly working hard to treat these newly calmed Pokemon.

"Oh… you're awake," a slightly strained voice said from beside him, sounding a bit unnatural.

Huo La turned his head, a flash of surprise crossing his face— it was Mu Xia.

At this moment, he no longer had his previous unruly demeanor; instead he hung his head, hands clutching his clothing edges, looking somewhat restrained.

"Why are you here?" Huo La raised an eyebrow, his tone flat, "Beishang, Ming Yao and Xiao Zhao, where are they?"

Mu Xia lifted his head, his eyes showing a hint of awkwardness and obvious embarrassment, and whispered, "Field Master Beishang left yesterday. Your two companions, Ming Yao and Xiao Zhao, are over there helping rescue the Mischievous Rocket Kings."

Huo La glanced in the direction he pointed, nodded lightly, and asked the core question, "Mischievous Rocket King… how is it?"

"Don't worry, the Mischievous Rocket King has fully recovered!"

Mu Xia hurriedly said, and at this point he seemed to have made a huge resolve, inhaled deeply, and bowed deeply to Huo La, his voice sincere and firm, "What happened before was my fault; I was too willful, too impulsive, and I misunderstood you, delaying the rescue of the Mischievous Rocket King… I apologize, I'm sorry!"

Huo La looked at his sincere demeanor, a hint of a smile flashing in his eyes, and waved his hand lightly.

Given his actual psychological age far beyond his outward appearance, he really didn't bother to argue with a simple‑hearted kid—especially since Mu Xia's nature wasn't bad, just overly stubborn and overly concerned about the Mischievous Rocket Kings.

"Alright, it's fine now," Huo La's tone softened, "How long have I slept?"

"Exactly three days," Mu Xia lifted his head, looking at him, his voice tinged with guilt, "Everyone was worried about you; Mu Chun brother checks on you every day to see if you're awake."

"Okay, now I'm awake, take me to see him."

"Alright." Mu Chun nodded and stepped forward, proactively supporting Huo La.
