Chapter 28: Tribal Responsibility

Scyther's life was very monotonous; every day, besides foraging, there was only training.

As the newly appointed leader of the population, Scyther knew that its own strength was not enough to protect the population's survival, so it had to become stronger.

Scyther was accustomed to using the scythes on both hands to attack, and its unique body structure made Scyther very good at chopping moves.

Today for Scyther was still the same boring chopping training as usual.

Until an unexpected guest broke Scyther's peaceful daily routine.

"Scyther, come and have a battle with us!"

In Scyther's eyes, a human with no strength to truss a chicken and a Pokémon with one level lower strength than itself challenging it was undoubtedly a reckless act.

But it just so happened that it hadn't had a fight today, and this human's request was just right for it.

Considering that this human was relatively pleasing to the eye, it wouldn't kill him after defeating him.

Having made up its mind, Scyther raised both hands, and the two scythe blades gleaming with cold light pointed directly at Su Hao and Carbink.

Seeing Scyther accept the challenge, Su Hao immediately commanded Carbink to launch a move.

"Use Reflect, and then use Harden!"

Because the power of this Scyther's moves was still an unknown, Su Hao, for the sake of safety, first let Carbink strengthen its defensive capabilities.

Seeing Carbink start to release a move, Scyther didn't just stand there posing either. Gently flapping the two pairs of wings behind its back, Scyther flew rapidly toward Carbink.

A blinding white light quickly condensed on the scythes of the rapidly approaching Scyther; it was the Slash move!

Observing the rapidly approaching Scyther, Carbink didn't panic. After calmly completing the buffs of Reflect and Harden, it didn't recklessly take the attack of the Elite-level Scyther head-on, but autonomously used Ancient Power to condense rocks around it and shoot them at Scyther.

The Ancient Power tore through the void, arranging itself in a triangular formation to seal off the Scyther's path forward.

"Chamo!!!"

Scyther, whose path was blocked by Ancient Power, let out a roar, and the scythes flashing with white light pulled out several blade lights, chopping all the Ancient Power in front of it to pieces.

Seeing that the Ancient Power was all cut open by Scyther, Su Hao, who hadn't spoken, directly issued an order.

"Use Ancient Power again to drag down its pace, and then use Sharpen to strengthen your own attack!"

"Na-na!" (Understood!)

Carbink quickly used Ancient Power to shoot at Scyther again, taking advantage of the moment Scyther was dragged down to use the Sharpen move to strengthen itself.

Scyther, who used Fury Cutter to cut open the Ancient Power again, turned into a white light and used Quick Attack to accelerate again, completely approaching Carbink.

It was still Fury Cutter; Scyther's scythes flashed with emerald light and chopped toward Carbink.

"Endure it, and then use Smack Down!"

Scyther's stacked Fury Cutter, weakened by Reflect, slashed heavily on Carbink's body.

Unfortunately, the scythes that could chop down trees could only leave a few deep white marks on Carbink's body after it had strengthened its defense.

Scyther's Fury Cutter did indeed cause effective damage to Carbink.

However, it was not enough!

It was still far from defeating Carbink!

"Bang!" A heavy sound came.

Carbink, having endured the attack, condensed a huge rock, and the Smack Down move slammed heavily onto Scyther, who had just finished attacking and was preparing to retreat.

Scyther, hit by the Smack Down move, fell to the ground like a kite with a broken string.

After being hit by the super-effective move that was four times resisted, Scyther couldn't even crawl up for a while.

"Cha......" (I lost......)

The exhausted Scyther couldn't believe it. It, an Elite-level, had actually been defeated by a Normal-level Pokémon and a human just like that.

Although it couldn't believe it, Scyther still readily admitted its defeat.

"Then, it's my turn."

Since Scyther had already admitted defeat, there was no need to continue the battle. Su Hao walked to Scyther, half-crouched, looked into Scyther's eyes, and said:

"Do you want to become

our partner? I can guarantee to make you stronger."

Su Hao issued an invitation to join the team to Scyther.

Scyther looked into Su Hao's clear eyes, its heart beating abnormally fast. Scyther's head heated up, and it almost wanted to agree immediately, but several figures suddenly appeared in Scyther's heart————.

"Cha......" (Sorry, I can't join you.)

Su Hao, who was rejected by Scyther, was a bit surprised, but he wasn't angry, tentatively asking Scyther a question.

"Can you tell me why?"

"Chamo...... Chamo......" (I still have a family, the population needs me. As the leader, I must protect them. Although I really want to go with you, I'm sorry, I still have responsibilities.)

Knowing the reason, Su Hao didn't force it, sighed slightly, and said: "Alright, if you need help later, just come to me. We can still be friends, right?"

"Na-na~" (That's right, we are friends~)

Carbink also released its goodwill toward Scyther.

"Chamo!" (We are friends! You can also come to the population to find me for sparring in the future!)

After making friends with Scyther, Su Hao treated Scyther's wounds, and after saying goodbye to the flying Scyther, he continued to explore nearby.

In the evening, after defeating several wild Pokémon one after another, Carbink's level also reached 22.
