Chapter 37: School Starts
Today was the day Su Hao started school.
It also meant that from today on, he was a high school senior preparing for the college entrance exam.
After a full month and a half of winter break, growing from a greenhorn who had just received his starter Pokémon to his current level, Su Hao was still very satisfied with himself.
After greeting classmates from other classes with whom he had a good relationship on the way, he arrived at his class—Senior Year Class 1.
Entering the classroom, the layout was no different from before the break, and half the seats in the class were already occupied.
Almost every student had one or two Pokémon on the desk or beside the chair in front of them.
Because Su Hao and his classmates were students of the Pokémon Department, the classroom was exceptionally spacious.
Except for large Pokémon like Onix, Rhyperior, and Aggron, it could fully accommodate them.
However, most of the students' Pokémon were currently in their first or second stage, and their sizes were not very large.
Seeing Su Hao enter the classroom, many classmates familiar with him brought their Pokémon over to greet him.
When greeting, he roughly scanned through the system and saw that most of the students' Pokémon in the class were around level 15 to 20.
A few might be a level or two higher, but not many.
Walking to the second-to-last row by the window, Su Hao took out the wet wipes he had prepared and wiped away all the dust accumulated on the desk and chair.
After touching it with his hand to confirm there was no dust, Su Hao released Carbink and Torracat from their Poké Balls.
Although the desk wasn't big, it could accommodate Carbink and Torracat.
The female students gathered nearby saw the Carbink on Su Hao's desk, and their eyes lit up in unison.
"Wow, Su Hao, your Carbink is so beautiful!"
"Yeah, yeah, can we touch the diamond on her head?"
The girls who gathered around were very interested in the diamond on Carbink that revealed a slight pink hue.
The slightly handsome boy at the front desk was very interested in Torracat.
"OMG, this is the starter Torracat, right? It looks so strong!"
The boy at the front desk was named He Xu, and he had a good relationship with Su Hao. After Su Hao nodded in affirmation, he said to the girls gathered around: "I don't have an opinion, but Carbink needs to agree."
The girls got Su Hao's nod and took out some small, cute things from their bags and handed them to Carbink.
Carbink, having received gifts, was also very happy; she nodded reservedly and agreed to the girls' request.
Ten minutes later, Li Hua and Jiang Chengcheng also arrived at the classroom.
Li Hua wore glasses, a shirt, and casual pants. A Corvisquire stood on his left shoulder, and a small, cute Swablu on his right, looking just like an old man walking his birds in the park.
Jiang Chengcheng was still wearing the martial arts uniform that anyone with a discerning eye would know belonged to a practitioner. Besides the Machop beside her, she had also added a new Pokémon.
It was a Pancham. Compared to the steady Machop beside Jiang Chengcheng, the Pancham was jumping around and teasing cats and dogs as soon as it entered the classroom, looking very lively in personality.
Because they kept in touch regularly, the three didn't have much to say to each other, so after greeting, they each returned to their seats.
Not long after, the head teacher, Ms. Liang, walked into the classroom. Because of her long-standing prestige, Senior Year Class 1 instantly quieted down.
The students who immediately returned to their seats and sat down restrained their Pokémon from making any noise.
Head teacher Ms. Liang walked onto the podium slowly, holding a thermos cup filled with flower tea.
Clearing her throat, Ms. Liang said: "From today on, everyone is a high school senior preparing for the college entrance exam."
"Before the break, everyone received their starter Pokémon. Except for those students who don't intend to follow the trainer path, Pokémon battles will be the most important subject in the college entrance exam."
"The training results of the students during the break will be reflected in this grade-level battle at the start of the term."
"At the same time, I want to remind you that academic grades are also very important. I hope everyone hasn't been slack during the break."
"Next, I will talk about the precautions for this grade-level battle."
"All students in the senior year must participate in this grade-level battle. This also relates to the school's evaluation of you and the qualification for the Shenzhou Alliance High School League held before the end of the first semester."
"The number of Pokémon used in this battle is two, and it will be held in a knockout format."
"The top eight students in this battle will represent Yang City along with the top eight contestants from other high schools in Yang City to participate in the high school league qualifiers!"
After explaining this grade-level competition, Ms. Liang took the whole class to the school auditorium to attend the opening ceremony.
Opening ceremonies are generally the same, nothing to write home about, nothing more than repetitive chicken soup speeches.
Su Hao was almost falling asleep standing up, and finally waited for the school leaders on stage to finish speaking and announce the dismissal.
Hearing the dismissal, the sleepy students off-stage instantly became spirited, and they exited the auditorium in an orderly manner, suppressing their excitement.
On the playground, the head teacher didn't say much, just said that school would be dismissed early today and classes would be normal tomorrow, letting Su Hao and the others go.
School was dismissed in the morning, and since there was nothing to do, there was still plenty of time left.
After thinking about it, Su Hao decided to call Li Hua and Jiang Chengcheng to go to the Rising Sun Dojo to register for the ranking matches.
Except for some "smurfing" players, most in the Poké Ball tier were at the Normal-level stage, and Elite-level were rarely seen there.
According to the data Su Hao saw by scanning Li Hua and Jiang Chengcheng's Pokémon, there was no problem with them participating.
Hearing Su Hao's proposal, Li Hua said he didn't care and could go anywhere, while Jiang Chengcheng was eager to try.
Seeing that the opinions were unified, Su Hao immediately took out his phone and called a Corviknight taxi.
Su Hao held Torracat and got into the taxi, and Li Hua beside him was a bit envious.
His Rookidee had become quite aloof since evolving into a Corvisquire. Although it was still willing to listen, he always felt a bit lonely.
How cute the Rookidee was when it was little, chirping and circling around him; now it's all gone!
Although Swablu was very cute, the one he had also had some personality issues; it was too fond of cleanliness.
He would just touch Swablu's cotton wings slightly, and Swablu would wish to go take a bath immediately.
Torracat looked so obedient and well-behaved, letting him stroke, hold, and kiss it, and it looked quite strong, so its combat power must be strong too.
Li Hua was now ten, or even nine parts jealous; his best friend's Pokémon looked so attractive.
