Chapter 102: The Effect of the Grassy Field, the Advancing Cutiefly
As the ground transformed into a grassy field, the entire area shimmered with a soft green glow, giving the sensation of being inside a magical green wilderness.
Luo Mu could clearly observe that, under the deliberate favor of the four Pokémon generating the grassy field, the fruit saplings absorbed the majority of the energy and nutrients.
Almost visibly, the saplings grew taller by a small margin, and numerous fresh green leaves sprouted from their branching stems.
After the four Pokémon, slightly exhausted, ceased their continuous energy supply to the grassy field, Luo Mu had them rest nearby, then stepped forward to remeasure.
The measurement startled him.
Each small fruit tree had grown nearly one-tenth taller out of nowhere!
The numbers might not seem impressive, but considering the stamina of Bai Pengpeng and Hua Liao Huanhuan, along with the frequency of grassy field usage.
Luo Mu estimated that if the grassy field were used once daily to cultivate the fruit trees, these trees might fully mature, bloom, and bear fruit within about a month!
Luo Mu had borrowed many books on cultivation from the Orange Academy, and one titled “A Brief Discussion on the Relationship Between Pokémon Moves and Plants” contained a chapter on the effects of the grassy field on crops.
The argument process need not be elaborated further—only the conclusion matters.
“Through rigorous data comparison, the effect of the grassy field on crops fluctuates according to the Pokémon’s strength and proficiency in the move. Generally, an ordinary Pokémon’s grassy field can only provide basic nutrients to accelerate crop growth.”
“To achieve visible, rapid growth in crops, a high-level Pokémon must use the grassy field move.”
But Bai Pengpeng and the others were merely newly evolved, and Hua Liao Huanhuan, as a former wild Pokémon, might be slightly stronger—but only to a limited extent.
The grassy field, which the book classified as capable of providing only basic nutrients when used by ordinary Pokémon, had been integrated by Kapu-Moomoo’s guidance into a vast, unified domain, gaining effects normally exclusive to high-level Pokémon.
No wonder Kapu-Moomoo is the sage of the grassy field domain.
After a brief thought, Luo Mu turned his head toward Bai Pengpeng, lying on the ground resting, and Hua Liao Huanhuan, curled atop them; the combined grassy field clearly demanded far more effort than a standard one—their fatigue was plainly visible.
Thus, considering Bai Pengpeng and the others’ limits, releasing the grassy field twice daily—once in the morning for the fruit trees, once in the afternoon for the crops—was just right.
This would serve as training without overburdening them.
Luo Mu considered this, first distributed the food he carried to Bai Pengpeng and the others so they could rest where they were, then found Dragonite and brought it over.
The soil had already been fertilized, watered that morning, and the grassy field had placed the fruit trees in optimal condition—so now, only one task remained—
Provide a bright, sunny day to allow the fruit trees to undergo proper photosynthesis.
Normally, Luo Mu avoided frequently interfering with the weather, since Pokémon capable of learning weather-changing moves were not rare in this world, but far from common.
Just as Kingdra stubbornly failed to learn grassy field, yet quickly mastered Grass Whistle and Seed Bomb—many Pokémon are poor at weather moves, while others excel at them.
In the future, when Wimpod evolves into Wimpod’s final form, it will surely master rain-based moves.
Luo Mu’s Gyarados excels in close combat; it can release Rain Dance, but not proficiently—the true weather specialist in the team is Dragonite.
Kingdra’s Sunny Day is the same.
Even though Dragonite had lost the finer, more terrifying control over weather it possessed as Haxorus, it could still learn all four weather moves: Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Sandstorm, and Hail.
Dragonite had studied Rain Dance most deeply, Sunny Day second, but had never learned Sandstorm or Hail.
After Luo Mu’s explanation, Dragonite nodded obediently, flapped its wings upward, and from its mouth burst a reddish-orange orb of light that swiftly tore through the clouds, illuminating the farm.
The next moment, warm sunlight poured from the sky, and all the crops on the farm seemed to stretch their bodies, basking fully in the rays.
Bai Pengpeng and the others reacted in a peculiar way—taking Minifur and Hua Liao Huanhuan, they found an open, unshaded spot and immediately rooted themselves to begin photosynthesis.
Their expressions of comfort made it clear they were enjoying it immensely—so much so that Luo Mu even wanted to try experiencing the legendary photosynthesis himself.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t turn into a plant.
But Kingdra’s reaction was intriguing—Luo Mu noticed its eager tail tip twitching, its writhing body, and from its expression, he could easily guess what Kingdra was thinking.
Probably that under Dragonite’s Sunny Day, its Solar Beam could be released much faster.
Yet Solar Beam, one of Kingdra’s strongest offensive moves, combined with its body that amplifies solar energy, becomes devastating under Sunny Day—so Luo Mu never allowed it to use during regular training.
The test results of the grassy field had delighted Luo Mu, but after finishing here, he immediately rushed to Thunder Lake.
The water quality of Thunder Lake, under the care of Gyarados and Wimpod, posed no issues—later, fish fry could be introduced.
But that wasn’t the focus.
Today, Luo Mu, Gyarados, Ho-Oh, and the Wimpod would witness a revenge battle initiated by Cutiefly.
After training with Kukui’s Rockruff, Cutiefly had learned several new moves, and upon returning, it immediately challenged Wimpod to a revenge match before Luo Mu.
Though it was a monk-like dog indifferent to worldly affairs, it still had its competitive spirit!
Wimpod naturally accepted Cutiefly’s challenge—it believed that since it had defeated Cutiefly once, it could do so again, and again.
It had defeated Cutiefly even as a Wimpod, let alone now, having evolved into the more powerful Wimpod form.
Both sides were now brimming with determination, neither willing to yield.
“I won’t give any commands—you two fight freely and judge the outcome yourselves.”
A Trainer must learn to be impartial, not favoring one side—or at least not obviously.
