Chapter 13
“That’s truly impressive.” As a doting father, Alan fully supported Nimo’s every choice, patting her head with a slightly troubled expression: “If that’s the case, you’ll need to prepare your starter Pokémon carefully.”
“The Paldea starter Pokémon? ......That’s too ordinary. By the way, I happen to have two Pokémon eggs—Riolu and Munchlax—that a friend gave me. How about a late-blooming Pokémon?”
Nimo shook her head firmly: “I want Bidoof as my starter Pokémon!”
Alan froze for a moment. Though he didn’t quite understand his second daughter’s choice, he still prepared to find a suitable Bidoof egg, smiling indulgently: “Whatever you like.”
Nimo raised her arms in excitement and added: “And... I want to wear a single ponytail from now on—it’ll make me look more efficient!”
“No problem.”
Alan immediately instructed the maids to tie Nimo’s hair in a single ponytail from then on, though he regretted no longer seeing his daughter with twin pigtails.
But... as long as Nimo didn’t dye or perm her hair, he’d let her do as she pleased.
One week later.
After seeing off the construction crew, Luo Mu nodded in satisfaction at the land, now slightly resembling a farm.
In his previous life, this project would’ve cost far more, and he’d likely have had to deal with petty issues or shoddy workmanship.
Leaving aside evil organizations and a few bad apples, most people in the Pokémon world were as innocent as those in a utopia—no hidden agendas.
Luo Mu first visited the farmland area, which had merely been divided into plots with drainage systems installed to prevent crop death from waterlogging.
But the fields remained uncultivated, since tilling the land was an extra cost.
In fact, the construction team could also provide services like adding irrigation canals for easier watering.
Watching his wallet steadily shrink, Luo Mu chose to use existing labor (Gyarados).
Watering? He’d let Gyarados slowly spray water with Water Gun.
Of course, he wasn’t a monster.
Once the farmland expanded, he could have Gyarados or Luxray take turns using Rain Dance when water was needed, and Kingdra use Sunny Day when sunlight was required.
In the Pokémon world, anything is possible!
Near the farmland, the construction crew had built a wooden shed to store crops, and outside it lay several iron farming tools—freely gifted to him.
This set of tools would cost hundreds of yuan if bought at the town market, and the foreman was truly a good man.
In short, though the farmland area was crude, it could be used after clearing away weeds and rocks and rehabilitating the wasteland.
Luo Mu’s knowledge of farming extended only this far—he’d grown up in the city and knew nothing about agriculture.
Still, even though he understood nothing about what came next, he already had a plan.
Half a month had passed since he accepted Professor Olin’s invitation to become a teacher at the Orange Academy.
As one of Paldea’s largest academies, its library surely held suitable books and materials for him to consult.
He could simply borrow and read them after taking up his post.
He could also use the advanced internet to follow relevant bloggers.
For example, Yaro, the Gym Leader of Route 1 in the Galar region, frequently posted videos and updates about Yaro Farm on his personal page.
Luo Mu wasn’t in a hurry to start planting—he understood well that haste makes waste.
If he rushed in without any knowledge, failure was far more likely than success.
Next, Luo Mu inspected the pasture area and the lake area.
More than half of the 100,000 League Coins had gone toward wooden fences for the pasture, since the animals or Pokémon he planned to raise would inevitably be cattle, sheep, or horses.
The pasture area occupied nearly one-third of the land Luo Mu had purchased.
The lake area also took up one-third, while the farmland area didn’t even reach half of either.
Like the farmland, the pasture area was overgrown with weeds and rocks and urgently needed clearing; after planting suitable grass seeds, Luo Mu would consider introducing animals or Pokémon.
The lake area, though called a lake, was merely a designated plot of wasteland—Luo Mu would have Gyarados use its strength to forcibly create a lake there.
It was a pity for Gyarados—a Champion’s main Pokémon—having to do such labor.
After some thought, Luo Mu decided to clear the weeds and rubble from the farm and pasture areas today.
But if he tried to do it all himself with hammer and hoe, it would take over a month of nonstop work.
This was where his near-max-level personal strength could finally shine.
Luo Mu scanned the surroundings and saw no one, then looked up at the sky. Besides occasional Pidgey and Spearow, a large dark shadow stood out prominently.
“Again sleeping in the sky... Perfect.” Luo Mu instantly recognized the shadow as his own Dragonite and shouted: “Dragonite—!”
After calling three or four times, the shadow descended—sleepy, chubby, and adorable.
“Bop~huh?”
Dragonite rubbed its eyes, its cry soft and unthreatening—hardly resembling the terrifying pressure it exuded in battle.
“Could you please call Gyarados over? I need to ask it for help.”
As Luo Mu spoke, his hand didn’t stop—he poked Dragonite’s wonderfully soft belly, lost in delight.
Dragonite’s belly was incredibly soft; compared to it, even the most luxurious pillow was inferior.
Napping on its belly was extremely comfortable, but Dragonite preferred to sleep floating in the sky, and Luo Mu couldn’t force it to stay.
“Bop-huh~!”
Dragonite raised its arm in a salute, hugged Luo Mu as part of their daily ritual, then happily swished its tail and flew skyward to find Gyarados and summon it.
After watching Dragonite fly off, Luo Mu sat on a large nearby rock and asked inwardly: “My friend, are there any priceless treasures buried underground nearby? Like evolutionary stones or Alolan Rattata’s plates...?”
【......Don’t daydream during daylight hours, dear host】
Luo Mu scoffed and muttered: “Ever since the Terastal Ore and Dr. Olin’s experiment, you’ve been useless.”
【Are you sure you want to ask me?】
【If you’d just gone out on adventures, you’d be rich by now. Stuck here in this tiny patch of land, wasting your days... I’ve got skills with nowhere to use them!】
【Dear user, just to your right, on the slope, there’s a pair of Rattata’s nest. If you’re ever truly starving, you could steal their food stash.】
“......Sassy little thing.” Luo Mu scowled, wondering if this guidance system had grown twisted from too much idle time.
As Luo Mu considered occasionally wandering into the nearby woods, his pocket phone began vibrating, ringing.
Luo Mu pulled it out.
Caller: Dr. Olin.
